Some of my Team Group 3-3-3-8 DDR2 just died on me. I was about to frame them and make a little memorial but I think I'll freeze them first. Thanks for the tip.

Yip. Only one died, but it's back up where it was, for now if not permanently.

How long should they be in the freezer? I just put my dead D9 sticks in.

I did mine for 24 hours. If it still doesn't work, longer can't hurt.

I'd still love for someone to be able to explain what exactly is going on here. How can cold reconnect solder points, or "reset" ICs?

In the case of HDDs, yes, I'd be prepared to believe and I've heard the explanation offered that cold shrinks the parts inside, alleviating a mechanical fault - but RAM has no moving parts, and surely shrinking things is going to have the opposite effect to reconnecting broken solder points - you'd want heat for that.

One of my Samsung T166's has recently buggered up, but I've already contacted Samsung about it but their technicians were busy. I never knew I could freeze it though, still I'd rather send it back and get a new one.

The freezing HDDs thing is only a temporary fix to get critical data off them. It's not a permanent fix, the HDD will stop working again as it heats up and the parts expand.

But this is a little off-topic.

I will test it too with my almost-dead set of SuperTalent RAM, it will boot but shows tons of errors in memtest, even at 533 CL5 with >2.5v...

I will be at home again in five days, will put them in the freezer for that time and try to test them next weekend. Is 120 hours in the freezer too long?

I put my ram in for about 18 hours and just tried each stick individually. It failed. Maybe I'll put them in the freezer longer and try again.

It didn't work for me but I think my sticks died from a faulty power supply, so they might be beyond repair. Thanks for the great idea though.
