Heh if it is true that would be NOT great

But on the other hand if these new drivers are supposed to give some visibly performance bump an even better stability - hm it`s better than nothing but it is still not as good as with new hardware launch

This card already exists. It's the GTX 260 216 core.

I got mine from Newegg for 299 bucks with a 20 dollar MIR, and this thing overclocks like a son of a b!tch.

Right now I have it sitting at 700/1509/1250 and at these speeds, it outperforms a stock GTX 280 and obliterates the HD 4870.

With the 180xx drivers come out, the gap between the HD 4870 and the GTX 260 will be increased even further.

You must not be an Nvidia card user, otherwise you would have tried the 178.13/178.15 drivers and seen the very notable increase in performance in a number of games.

If the 180xx continues this trend, then Nvidia will definitely increase the gap between itself and ATI, particularly in the single GPU department.

Hmm i don`t think GTX260 216SP is THIS card what i`m thinking about. OK it`s a little faster than HD4870 but it`s still more expensive than it and - which is important - it uses huge and very expensive to produce 65nm GT200.

IMO GTX260 216SP is much more like 112SP revisions of GF8800GTS about year ago.

So...I`m still waiting for worthy GF8800GT successor

I think GTS 150 would be the NEW real killer that should be launched to the public sooner than later, i love how nVidia innovates and creates NEW cards.

    +1

The latest drivers put me over 15K in vantage for the first time with my Q6600, and single 280.

They are indeed getting faster. I expect good things from Big Bang II.

I also look foward to the 350, or GX2 card. I will be using the 350 for graphics, and current 280 for dedicated PhysX.

Providing we get some new PhysX games, it should make for a decent rig...

How's that competing against the 4870? The 4870 sells for $220! Your card costs $279, which is a 27% higher price. Does it, when overclocked, have 27% more performance compared to an overclocked 4870?

Just curious, was your OC done on the stock heatsink? What volts? It seems like a great OC. I think that you have my 280GTX beat, at least in terms of clock speeds (The only reason why I have a 280GTX is because it was free lol)

The Big Bang 2 will be the new Stickers on your 9x series and with them you'll get new drivers that will rename it to 150 GTX ! That's big bang ... or maybe the big bang was to small we didn't notice it... But we should wait for 22.10 .. i think they will pack everything intro one day

a 4870 overclocked at 835/4000 would hold its own against your core 216 at those clocks

anyways thats off topic. hopefully nv can get their shrinked chips out soon and ati will come up with something too in a few months

Is it confirmed that 22.10.08 NVIDIA will release it`s refresh parts of GT200? Because there is some info about November launch.

you do realize the new cards are a die shrink right? hardly a new sticker on a 9 series card, regardless of what some bullcrap Nvidia bashing site says. I myself am an Nvidia user but I by no means have a problem jumping ship if someone comes up with a better single GPU solution, just saying this before anyone calls fanboy, cause that poor excuse for a comeback word has been used alot lately.
This post above was delayed 90 times by Nvidia. Cause that's their thing, thats what they do.

While the GTX 260 216 is slightly more expensive, it also out performs the HD 4870 generally speaking (the lead will increase further when better drivers become available), and has less issues with heat and power usage. Also the extra memory comes in handy as well.

As for my overclock, yeah it was done on stock heatsink, and stock voltage.

I even managed to increase it a bit more. Right now, it's at 740/1485/1300.

I had to lower the shaders a bit, because I had slight artifacting, but I managed to increase the core and memory speed. Actually, I just removed the heatsink and applied some thermal paste to see if I could increase the clockspeed on the shaders, but alas, it didn't have any impact

When the 55nm GTX 280 becomes available, I'm going to trade my current model in for it through EVGA's step up program.

Hopefully, the 55nm GTX 200s can hit 800mhz on the core.

BTW if the above are the real specs of the supposed upcoming card from nVidia, then it would be about 3 times faster than GTX280 on real world performance, as long as it is not bottlenecked by the memory bandwidth (considering that 3360MHz of GDDR5 gives enough headroom, I doubt it would be the case). That would make this beast 2 times as fast as 4870x2 on REAL world performance !!!

That's exactly what makes me disbelieve the rumors, there was never such a jump in performance by either of the companies, even the 8800GTX was far less faster from 7950GX2 than GTX 350 is supposed to be from 4870x2. Technology moves fast, but not THAT fast, even with 55nm you would need a nuclear reactor to power that thing and dry ice to cool it...

Edit: Here's a GTX 350's specs' pic (doctored most probably)

also wouldn't those insane specs make it about three times the price as well?
