Modded ASUS P5Q/Pro/Deluxe/Premium BIOS

1406 seems fine, but I haven't had big problems with any BIOS except 1306, which worked but was a lousy OCer. I guess I'm lucky all my hardware just works and CPU M-E doesn't bother me. I keep hoping for some better OCing capabilities w/ new BIOS versions but I haven't seen any improvements over m704. In fact, at stock speeds I get tighter timings on m704 than any other version which allows me to drop the PL to 5. Perhaps I should just stick w/ m704 and be happy things work for me. If it ain't broke...

The 7 series mBIOSes are very special IMO. They sacrafice very little for great stability and OCing abilities

I just got back from hospital from burning my foot with boiling water and, it hurts. lol to say the least. I literally pulled off skin when I took off my sock... Let that be a lesson to you kids lol don't dump boiling water onto your foot

EDIT: LoL. Nevermind, got it. Just used an alternative server (dlcdnet.asus.com or dlsvr04.asus.com instead of dlsvr.asus.com) and renamed 1306.zip to 1406.zip

ASUS maybe out of sync with its download servers but hey, nobody can keep a man's brain out of sync.

This is the most updated thread. Nowhere near as many n00bs here either What kind of FSB issues are you having JC?

Basically it refuses to post over 390 FSB. I can get my E5200 to 4.2GHZ with a 330 FSB and a 12.5X multi@ 1.55V, but I can't get it to post at 400x10 even up to 1.6V. Even up to 1.5V on the NB. I was having NB heat issues, but I have taken the NB heatsink off, scraped the goo they call TIM off and put arctic cremique on it and then I added a 20MM fan to it and my temps are more acceptable now.

I have tested this FSB issue with different chips and different ram, I get different results with each. I got an E6300 to 410 stable, an E1200 to 320, and an E2180 to 350.

Its the chip you are using. The E5200 isn't known for its FSB capabilities, and in fact, for an E5200 390FSB is pretty good.

I have the new Pro, -E and Deluxe BIOS but haven't looked at them yet. I'm running off the lappy right now, which as good as it is, things go slower not having my main system.

Not much seems to of changed for the 1406 P5Q Pro BIOS, memory table is larger, up to P5Q Premium 1401 standards, CPU M-E is still present More than likely the fan control is still broken. You will notice when trying to use normal silent or turbo modes, you can select them but fan RPM never changes from silent mode speeds. Looking at the Deluxe BIOS the same story applys. Difference being memory compatibility seemingly surpasses that of the Premium 1401 BIOS. Asus just need to move their arse and release a Premium 1406 BIOS.

Okay, I took the jump and installed 1406 on my Deluxe. My machine is very sensitive to the CPU-ME problem, and will not pass even one Prime95 Merge. However, even at stock settings (just the DRAM upped to the recommended 2.2 v) and everything else set to auto, it just got through the first four tests without falling over. It never could do that on anything higher than 803 before.

I'll have to check over a period of time to see if things are generally unstable.

So my initial response based on a few minutes and a few Prime tests is that 1406 is a lot more stable than the previous 1xxx BIOSes, but I'll need more time to get some usage in before I can tell if the problem is resolved or not. 1406 is certainly not instantly and obviously broken like the previous few BIOSes.

Just passed some quick IntelBurnTest runs and some MySQL abuse. Could it... could it be fixed..?

BTW, my CPU-ME is running at the default "optimized" setting, although my memory seems to be running at compatability mode 06. I think (but not one hundred percent sure now) that the other 1xxx BIOSes ran it at 05.

Yes, that's correct.

My P5Q-Deluxe just ran through 30 IntelBurnTests at 2 gig of RAM settings, with everything at stock, and it gave no errors. It seems like 1406 does fix the instability problems with 45nm quads, and anyone else experiencing the same issues and stuck on the 803 BIOS should give the new BIOS a go.

Ah, great stuff. Glad your problems look like they're fixed.

Higher RAM clocks usually require higher PL numbers. My CellShock needs to be at PL7 for anything up to DDR1160. After that, raising it to 8 helps stabilise.

Not good! Spilled some scalding hot coffee from a damn dunkin yournuts a few years ago while driving and it went down my work shoe. Almost hit a car when that happened, whole ankle blister'd up. Take care of that and sorry to hear that.

Heck, I'm just glad right now that Asus have figured out how to update BIOSes without causing every program you run to crash and burn. I couldn't even consider any overclocking until I could get stable at stock speeds.

Having said that, I did try bumping down to PL5, and it was nasty. I could just about reboot to the BIOS (which wanted to recover itself off the backup because it kept insisting it was corrupt), and on the one occasion I got into Windows it bailed out as being unable to find pci.sys.

I ended up reflashing 1406 and it's okay again. My system really doesn't like lower PL levels than those chosen under "auto". It tries to hurt me when I go to PL5.

The fact Asus bioses corrupt themselves so easily when you push the PL too low or the ram too high is incredibly concerning, it happened perhaps 10 times on my P5Q-Deluxe before I RMA'd it. The issue was one of the issues I cited for my reason for RMA.

Thankfully my Maximus II Formula has not done it once.

You can adjust PL inside Windows using MemSet. Download, install, then decrease the PL number until Windows freezes, then reboot and set PL to the last number that worked before the freeze.

How can I unlink my memory so the speed doesn't get increased while overclocking the cpu ?
