I think theres a setting in Bios i need to change dont I? I have 1306 for BIOS.

EDIT: one more thing, my memory setting in CPUz arent showing either. Nothing but size.
Do you have C1E turned on? Actually, I'm not sure if that controls it or not, but you can turn that off and see if it is bothering you...but, yeah, it's a feature of the board (or CPU)...I like it..no sense in running a full multiplier until you need it. Don't know about the CPU-Z memory issue though.

LOL thats it thanks! I was in BIOS earlier when i updated it and looked at that setting and tried to remember if I should disable it or not. I might need to update CPU-Z to see whats going on.

It's weird how much processor voltage you are using. I've got a very similar system (ok, better cooler) and at 400 FSB I am using 1.144 CPU volts for stability. Haven't touched my NB and DRAM -- still on auto. I know every system is different, but these are way way different. System below.

Can I ask you a question? When you say 1.144 you are talking VCore right? That's not Vtt? I mean, that is an insanely low VCore for 400 FSB with a Q9550...in fact, that has got to be close to a world record. Even with a 6 multiplier.

It's "CPU Voltage" as set in BIOS. Edit: According to the Asus manual, this sets "CPU VCore"

And I have an 8.5 multiplier.

Edit again: Plato we have amazingly similar systems. What did you do for NB/SB/VRAM voltages? Auto? or Did you tune them down?

Ok...that is one awesome chip (well, awesome is an understatement...1 in a million maybe..sent from heaven). Seriously, 3.4 GHz stable on 1.144 volts...I've never seen a QX even come close...you may be able to sell it back to Intel for big $$$...they should put it in their museum...hell, you could probably get that thing to 5 GHz.

    [EDIT] I have 1.16 Vtt, 1.2 NB, 1.8 VDimm...SB is Auto...how about you?

NB, VDIMM, SB all on auto right now.

I feel really really dumb, but I'm not sure what VTT is -- I don't think I have a setting in my BIOS that says that. There's just CPU Voltage, CPU GTL 0/2, CPU GTL 1/3, and CPU PLL.

Yes, as Singh400 said, it's FSB termination voltage in your BIOS...sorry...the OC world has more overlapping, confusing acronyms than the military...you may also hear it referred to as vFSB...which stumped me a few days ago, because that was the first time I had heard it....

How do you determine stability, BTW? What procedure and tools do you use?

So far I've been using Prime95 for stability testing. Ran blend for 6 hours and small FFT for 6 hours so far. Going to set up a longer run for overnight.

If you feel confident about your cooling system...then you may want to try this:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=201670

LinX is a Linpack stress test that will quickly find any problems...I use it for 20 cycles...after that I run Prime95 blend for 24 hours...but the prime95 test seems unecessary...my experience of LinX after 20 minutes...is that it is worth 24 hours of Prime95...it's a real time saver...but keep your eyes on the temps if you use it..anything over 75C, then hit the stop button. It will stress your system more thoroughly and quicker than anything out there...and find problems that will take any other program many hours to find.

But if your OC holds at 1.144v, I am not kidding...you have an amazing chip...it's golden!

But is it stable?...aren't you having some huge BIOS issues with that rig?

[EDIT]BTW, is that with LLC on or off? That makes a huge difference.

Stable all day and night on revision 0803 which has no CME options in it yes, I think I still have screen shots showing it stable.. I was stable on the 1102 for a week which has the option, then that stopped working but, 0803 100% stable yes..

    A little better one here,

How about LLC? BTW, it sounds like things are going OK for you now with 0803...I went to 1402 and have had great luck with that one...well, by great, I mean a solid 20% OC...but that was what I was after, so I can't complain.

Enabled, you could prob do alot better with 0803. I'm starting to notice other people having issues that have 9550s now as well.

Perhaps I could...I just spent a month learning the ropes on the 45 nm and this board...so I am just gonna sit on this one for now...maybe if I have a lot of time to burn, I'll give 0803 a shot...main thing for me, though, is I got what I originally wanted and have had no issues at all...I hate 'issues'...I just cut my KDE compile time in half from what my 2 year old E6700 used to do...I love it! But I am pretty easy to please

Neat little package LinX. Definitely stressed the heck out of my system. Ran 25 cycles, took just under 39 minutes. No probs. Max temp 71C on one core. Holding up well. Last worry is my NB voltage.

Yeah...very nice package. Best Linpack implementation I've seen yet...Well, if you passed that for 25 cycles and only hit 71C...I'm saying you are rock solid stable...Congratulations...you've got a golden chip and have achieved one heck of a stable OC with that...if you wanted to, you could probably safely go much higher on your FSB...

Thanks Plato ... I'll happily take the dumb luck on the first system I've ever tried to OC.

As for pushing further -- nah there's no need. I'm looking for every day stability, not looking to set records.

    I just noticed a very strange thing. I have a p5q-e (1306 original bios) , q6600 at 3,6ghz and a 2x2bg kit of corsair dominator CM2X2048-8500C5D at 1066 with 5-5-5-18 (trcd=60).

I was priming with the memory at 2.04v , as i 've read about the overvolting thing. Last night , i set my memory to 1.90v , i run memtest86+ and the morning i saw that it had completed 19passes with no errors !! I run prime95 (blend tess) and it was stable.

Then , i set the memory to 1.8v and .... no error for 6 passes at memtest 86+ (i just stopped it then).

So , is it just my board or my memory chips ? Or the overvolting problem is bigger than it was described here ?

Could someone with a p5q deluxe and the same corsair memory try to lower his memory voltage ?
