If you were stuck on the 803 BIOS like a lot of people are, you are very limited in your choice of ram. I'd also consider the DFI P45 board (DK Plus) it seems solid and is relatively inexpensive.
I thought the problem was only with the 9450. I'll consider the maximus (and ask about the sata ports there).

DFI i hope they improved from the p965 that gave me a lots of problems, esp with memory, but i'll check dfi forum, thanks for the heads up.

There isn't anyone running others AFAIK but they are the 'same' cpu just different speeds. They most likely would have issues with CME setting. Personally I wouldn't risk it without solid information showing that other Q9XX0 chips are fine apart from the Q9450's we know are affected.

I second that! At this stage, where we "might" possibly be close to some resolution (hopefully removal of CME), I just don't think it's worth the risk.

Hopefully the contact has a sense of Humor!

On another note, has anyone running the 1402 bios from pmp put a meter on the board? Reason I ask, is that I found that so far I need 2.04v vdimm for my same 24/7 settings that I was able to run all the other bios versions I have tried at 2.0/2.02v stable.

I will throw my meter on the board this evening for the ram voltage to check it, but there is no way I can get at the other areas to check vcore/pll, etc in my setup, nor would I even try. Getting too old for that stuff here!

I know. I don't think he realized how serious I was about my issues. He said he actually managed to get it to bearly work though by using performance but mine wouldn't work with it.. and that Windows wasn't seeing hard drive exc. exc.. and that he has the shut down issues exc.. That was the last thing he emailed me though. Oh well atleast we know now they realize how serious of an issue it is. I wll post back what he says if anything else today.

    Ok here's a data point:

I have an Asus P5Q Deluxe with 1201 Bios, running an Intel q9550 (C1 stepping). (TRUE, Corsair 650TX and Asus EAHD 4870, etc.)

Everything is at stock for now (except see below), no OC yet.

I was having failures with P95 with stock settings after 3 - 5 minutes. So I changed CPU Margin Enhancement from Optimized to Performance, and after that P95 worked for hours with no problems. BTW I was having zero other failures -- games working fine (WOW, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect), etc. No BSODs at all before or after I changed CPU Margin Enhancement. I've only been running all the test suites to establish baseline before OC'ing.

Well its been running all day after I make the changes in the Bios and
we have yet to have any trouble. I will cont to test Monday but right
now it looks like changing to performance mode works great.

Performance thing didn't work here.......... I guess try performance mode guys and see if you can get into Windows again. I told him I would try this one more time here....

    cpu 1.375V
    fsb 1.4V
    mch 1.5V
    pll 1.6V

*what are the suggested values for a 45nm quad core? do i still have headroom? or am i over the safe zone?

I am on air cooling using a Thermalright 120 Extreme.

*also what are the suggested gtl reference values and clock skews?

My old Biostar wouldn't even boot at high fsb without having the cpu clock skew at 200 ps with my Q9450. The P5Q Deluxe on the other hand doesn't like that at all, I can only boot it at auto settings.

You and I have the same CPU and BIOS. I do overclock (moderately, to 3.4) and found that if I set CME to anything other than optimized, things go very unstable. So I don't have a choice but optimized....I just wish to hell I knew what CME was actually doing...what voltages it raising or lowering...I think it has to be volts, because I don't think there is much else, other than asserting lines on the CPU that it can do. But I can't find any Intel docs that mention it.

Yeah My chip acts like it doesn't like over 490. I know he said that with it set to performace it wasn't seeing hard drive and shut down issues exc.. Your right it just disapoints me and technicaly considering what he said about shut down issues exc technicaly it still isn't fixed so. The guy that posted about his 9550 said he needs his set to optimized??? Just take the damn headaches away by removing it all together...

Bah, updated to 1403, and my system still BSOD's on every cold boot. It's the same every time. It posts as normal and starts loading Windows, where it will BSOD after some time, then reboot and boot as usual. I'm just waiting for my Windows install to go bad on me. Extremely annoying!

Could be one of ya crucials dying, Jagt have you tried with only 2 dimms and/or a lower clock on the ram ? might even be cured when you settle for 3.6 with 450FSB and 1080on the ram...

Would be nice to see how ya settings are too (template here :P5Q Dlx template)
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

I have actually clocked it down a few notches from what I originally found stable (in my sig), but it hasn't really helped any. I have memtested my RAM to hell and back, so I doubt it's something wrong with them. The system also passes endless hours of prime without a hassle. The thing is, it's completely stable when it has booted into Windows, it's only that first cold boot that makes it BSOD. Also a thing I noticed, after I flashed I lost half the pull-ins of both channel A and B. Now I only have pull-ins for phase 1 and 2 for each channel.

    Anyway, here is my template:
