yah. try 440 x 10 with a 1:1 divider. 2.1vdimm, 1.39vcore, small increases to vtt, vnb. disable speedstep. I wouldn't doubt this or that, or say, this isn't possible. it's very likely you put that chip on another mobo, and let another person try, and it reach 4.5g @ 1.4v stable.
    Bring... bring the amber lamps.

I think I've tried everything already. Bumped up vTT, vNB, PLL, played with CPU GTL's, NB GTL, skews... everything. Nothing works, and it's been about 6 weeks trying so far.

Well the comment was made that chips with 1.250vid suck for overclocking. To which I HAD to respond After all E0 8500 and E0 8600 - the only difference is the multiplier - same chip otherwise

I feel your pain man and know how frustrating it can be. I had myself a E8400 before and couldn't get that chip pass 3.9Ghz with 1.42v in CPU-z. Tried everything as well and spent several weeks (nights) tweaking the hell out of it without succes. Fortunately I could buy a second hand E8600 with a supposingly good batch. I decided to buy E8600 and was hoping it was not my board that was limiting the E8400 OC.

I installed the chip in sunday and after spending just a few hours I got it orthos stable yesterday on 4.37Ghz with 1.38v in CPU-z. Ofcourse I will try to push it to 4.5Ghz but as someone else already described here, I also think 450FSB is hard to get stable while 455FSB e.g. could work. I know vcore is still pretty high but its a starting point.

Good idea, to post JohnnyV and my board settings over at the P5E3-Premium thread.

My e8600 came yesterday. It has a stock vid of 1.25. So far I've gotten 4.4Ghz(550x8) stable for 7.5 hours under Prime95_64 running small FFTs. Core 0 produced an error at that point, core 1 was still pluggin along at 8.5 hours when I checked it. So far I'm running 1.336v VID and 1.256v VTT. My memory seems rock solid at 1100@5-5-5-15pl9 so far, which is a big improvement from what I was able to run on my 9450. I may give it a day or two to burn in and for the AS5 to set before pushing it further, but it looks like it might just need a touch more VTT. Load temps under prime top out at 52C with these settings.

    4Ghz is peanuts for him

Pretty low voltage imho and I just put in 1.2v in the bios but with Vdrop and Vdroop this is what is left (see pic)
Screen was taken after well over an hour but it's now running almost 2 hours.

Temps are high though for my set up. Might have to re-seat the cpu block. I still have the quad core chamber insert installed and was hoping not having to remove it.

The chip I'm running at 4.4 is Batch Q820A324. An extra .25 on the FSB seems to have tackled that issue at 7.5 hours. Prime has been running fine since I left for work!

Are you still using that modded 0605 bios for your mobo? How is your experience with it, does everything seems stable?

I'm really wondering what settings you need to get things stable. I think I use the following settings at this moment but I'm at work so have to recall them:

    - vCore 1.382v in CPU-z
    - CPU PLL 1.58v
    - VTT 1.30v
    - vNB 1.61v
    - LLC performance

I know vcore is a bit high but I will finetune voltages when I found a stable setting. At least CPU was 9 hours orthos stable with above settings and vNB on 1.57v. However when I turned up RAM speed I needed more vNB, I think. But I have no clue what is reasonable to get 1800Mhz memory to run stable.

    Hey Bee

It's hard to say about the new BIOS because 1 day after I installed it I got my E8600 and that's a whole different ballgame compared to the Q9450. I put some settings in... everything 2 nothces up from auto and booted. Windows hung during boot so I put the vtt and vNB 1 notch up and after that it booted and was prime stable for almost 2 hours. Then I went to bed.
More testing during the weekend because 4G is nothing for this batch

hey, be careful about the vNB. the premium board doesnt got any NB temp monitor, and its getting really hot! i got one small fan that comes with the board, and got it stock on the heatsink, and 1 90mm mounted on the side of the Lian li, and still when using 1.60+ i get black screen and freezing when booting, i use these settings for a 467 PL6 tight settings, and CL7 on the RAM, vNB 1.55 1.57 gets more unstable aswell as 1.53, 1.55 is the sweetspot, using 0.67 on the NB GTL, Keeping the VTT high doesnt change things much, keep it 1.10-1.20 , PLL dont need to be high either, 1.50-1.60. Clock Twister Strong, these settings are stable and giving me 12mb read.
for 450fsb u can keep it 1.55 to, tried that once and it was stable, mem 2.1 CL 7-7-7-18 1869, strap 333. hope it works out!

Thanks for your explanation. It's a real pity that this board hasn't a NB temp sensor. I had my vNB as high as 1.65v and I know that someone else on this forum has too with his OCZ 1800Mhz RAM. To prevent overheating I have a 90mm fan blowing directly at the NB. I also use 460FSB and 7-7-7-20-2T PL6 settings at this moment.

I'm not sure if I can put 2.1v on these RAM modules. Moreover how did you get 1869Mhz on RAM with 450FSB speed?

    EDIT:
This is my new result this far after 4 hours of prime95 on 4.4Ghz with the following settings:

    - Vid = 1.2375
    - Strap 333Mhz
    - Vcore = 1.4125v in bios
    - CPU PLL = 1.58v
    - VTT = 1.28v
    - vNB = 1.55v
    - LLC = auto
    - Spread Spectrums disabled
    - Dynamic read / write disabled

i can say that it looks good, and 4hours are good, and for ME thats enough! , but you may have to go mem test too, like OCCT RAM , or Blend in Prime, to make sure all is ok.

but why are you goin 5:8 divider? Use 1:2 , the highest one, that would be about 1850, and you can go 2.06-2.1 for that CL7, should work fine.. and put 1T on, or does the ram not like that?

Last post Offtopic here! head on in the P5e3 thread instead, people will get pissed here eventually :P

Hey, thanx for that info where you got that E8600.
Recieved mine today with same batch number Q822A435.
    VID = 1.2000v

    Currently running Orthos @ 4100Mhz - 1.168v and load 41C :P

One thing I find strange though, is that idle temp is also 41C . Could that point to a problem with the tempsensors?. Both my E8400 and E8400 were 24C idle. (I'm on watercooling)
