yeah, i saw that on ebay (there were 2 or 3 iirc) but i didn't go for it because it's just the board, no i/o shield (who cares?), no cables (plenty of those around anyway), and most importantly, no heatsinks. the cost of getting the board and sinks shipped separately would have been a little less than what i paid, but i figured it's worth it to me for the extra couple dollars to get everything at once all brand new in box.

i guess wes already had the right heatsinks? i can't seem to find any info on a backplate for mounting the heatsinks. will i need to get one? i mean, i guess i'll find out in a couple days when the thing gets here, but i'm a little impatient...

Yep, the Dynatron I51 Heatsinks. The 'sinks come with backplates, like a TRUE does, only a lot smaller.

The 'sinks are a little more expensive than the stock intel ones as well, ~$40 with shipping.

I've thought about doing a quad opty a few times. However, as Solid said, the chips are outrageously expensive. Just not worth the money over a Intel quad.

Actually PM rubidium, he said than he found place which sells old B2 8346HE Opterons at price 50-70$! Which meanin than u'll get 16 cores of cpu at 300$!

Darn, that was the one I've been watching for a few days as well. Anyways, I think I just spotted a better package for my uses, so long as the reserve doesn't end up being too high.

Yeah, I noticed earlier in the day that someone with a username ending in "n" placed a bid, so I kinda had a suspicion

Anyways this other auction I found stole my interest, as it comes with a different board and IPMI capabilities, something I've absolutely been wanting to mess around and will go a little further for. Although the package reminds me of a couple full cpu/ram/mobo packages I saw go by about two months ago, where the asking pricec were definately too high for my liking, but the seller ended up accepting some offers that were just what I would've jumped for

apparently he didn't have the right heatsinks so he just layered on the goop and let the sink rest on top...

he doesn't exactly seem to know what he's doing or what the cpus are for. additionally, his pals are equally clueless since they seem to suggest 30USD as a good starting price...

i'd be wary of the auction (i've been watching for 3 days now) only because:
1. he seems to use fake accounts to give himself feedback and bid up his items
2. in the forums he has a SL9HN and a SL8WT, but not 2 of either, so i'm guessing the auction might actually be a mixed C0/D0 pair (which is okay according to intel)
3. he's in vietnam but lists an address in oregon.

i decided it wasn't worth it to possibly get scammed so i bought some off of mm's ebay source.

good luck actually receiving the item!
