nice board, I hope they don't put a fancy bling-bling ultra big heatsink crap, a thing I don't like is that the pcie looks more quad CFX friendly than 3 SLI since the last one is way down unless your case has 8-pci brackets...maybe i'm seen wrong can you guys correct me?

I hope you're right. I don't think it's a stretch though to say that this will be the most expensive mobo released so far. This will be a halo product, worth more to Asus in marketing than market share.

Like Dinos said, Some of the Asus prices in Australia are ridiculous. The Striker II extreme was like $650-$700 Australian at launch, which at the time with the US-AU ex rate would have been $600 US.. Madness

I hope it's not as fussy as its predecessor.

Nice-looking board. Let's see how it performs before declaring it a champion. Seems to have all the tools, though.

Is there any point to those special Fujitsu caps, or are they just for making you pay more?

The VTT card looks like it contains the extra mosfet drivers.

    love the DMM measure points!

they might as well make the board 4x x16 PCI-E + 1x PCI slot (furthest to the left/closest to edge of board).

wonder if they'll use real copper for heatsinks ?

Hmmm someone should inform Asus that the world economy is going thru a recession. Although I have a feeling Taiwan is immune to it.

It is a good thing they design the Rampage Extreme thoroughly from the start a little side info the ASUS Rampage Extreme almost didn't make it to retail because of the late release and the final cost of the board but they still push it to be release a good decision so far now with a good reference they can design the boards successor with ease because of the solid foundation of its predecessor but Nehalem + X58 + QPI + Triple Channel is another story. This board is a long way from hitting the shelves so those that can influence the engineers design should already send them an email to what designs to try with the board so that they can test the different ideas and choose which is the best possible designs.

Its a little larger than a normal ATX. Look at the mounting holes on the far right of the motherboard, there is a good 1"/1-1/4" till the edge. Its between ATX and eATX.

I was looking forward to 8 SATAs, thats a bummer.

indeed, at the end of june $:€ was 1,55:1 and of august 1,44:1 and now exchange rate is 1,41:1, which is kinda bad, cause i have to pay more for my hardware.

You are right, it has the bolt pattern of ATX meaning it will work with current cases but is a little wider.

I am glad they made the board a little bigger as you know have more room to work with.

Are the specs for the mounting holes for CPU cooling the same as LGA775?

Not if Bush n' Buddies had their way and pushed the $700bn bank bailout expenditure through. That would've led to a significantly weaker dollar, and fast. Not to say the Dow tanking 800 points is any better, but this is the price you pay for deregulation!

Back on topic, what are those Fujitsu caps for? I've long wondered what the purpose is. Is Asus just adding cost without value again?
