the info i posted came from Asus. they did mention they tried to fix it during one of the bios updates but if your problem persists to disable one of them.

i dont use SpeedStep so i dont know what the actual issue is, but i do use C1E without any problems.

Heavy. So they basically told you it was broken, and live with it?

well they didnt say it was broken for everyone, but yea deal with it til they get back to it if you are still having problems.

Don't be so quick to blame speedstep/c1e though. This is why I always recommend:

    1 - Use latest bios
2 - Avoid using auto for ANY voltage setting (except maybe gtls)

Then you can make some conclusions.
I am blaming the BIOS and/or board. Nothing was changed outside enabling C1E and Speedstep at different times. Latest BIOS did not help and I did not mess with voltages until after the problem surfaced. Not using Auto except for GTLs, SB, PCIE. Pretty standard stuff and conclusion made is BIOS and/or board has issue.

I have temporarily disabled Speedstep because of this.

PS: I already tried to RMA this board. It has a faulty DIMM slot, but OCUK won't take it back. They tested it, sent it back to me and charged me £21 just to be told there's no problem, which is actually not true as the issue is causing problems again, as it has been for the last month. Conclusion: avoid OCUK like the plague.
Sorry to hear about your OCUK problem!

Personally, if C1E and Speedstep are not going to throttle down voltage with multiplier, I see no reason at all to use it. It hardly made a dent at all in my idle temps and whatever power saving was minimal.

Thanks Finn. I don't see it as my problem, it's theirs. The fact is, bad words get around on the net extremely fast, and e-thieves eventually lose all their customers.

Do you know any solution on how to access the express gate using Raid mode on ICH10R?
Is there any way to install express gate to an usb stick?

looking for some help with this slight oc i have.

I have a weird problem with this board. I'll start with what i have in my bios. Most if the stuff i dont need ie: ieee, lan, epu, is disabled.

    cpu multi:7
    fsb: 450
    Pcie frequency: 100
    fsb strap:333
    Dram timming: 5-5-5-15 1:1
    Performance level:11
    Cpu voltage: 1.18
    Cpu PLL:1.50
    Fsb termination voltage:1.10
    Dram voltage:2.0
    Nb voltage:1.26
    load line calibration:auto
    Cpu spread spec: disable
    Pcie spread spec: disable
    Cpu clock skew: auto
    Nb clock skew: auto
    Cpu margin enchancement: auto

everything else is on auto/or left at stock settings

Ok. Now, I'm trying for a small everyday oc of 3.6ghz on the cpu at 450fsb (8xmulti).

Problem is.... i can boot easy at 8x450, get into windows run games, orthos, browse the net with no apperent instability. But the minute i try and reboot.

    my oc fails.

This happens at very high volts for the cpu. nb... at 430x8, 450x8, 430x7.5, 450x7.5 Tried higher vtt (1.14) and i think i tried 400 strap (wouldn't even boot from bios)

Board ran fine at stock fsb/cpu speeds with other settings in bios. This only started once fsb/cpu speeds where adjusted.

Can you guys see a setting in there that would be the cause of a instable reboot?

    edit: hardware.

    thanks i'll try that.

    Edit:

worked like a charm booted back up np and currently sitting at 3600ghz 8x450 with 1.22cpu v in bios.

I only change the fsb to auto and raised the fsb termination voltage.

My vTT is well below vCore.

vCore = 1.425 (in BIOS, which gives me 1.408v actual (under load)
vTT = 1.26, and I think I can run this lower and remain stable

So what gives? There's a huge difference between the two voltages and no instability. vTT is a bit scary. I'm reluctant to push it over 1.4v.

If I said I understood vtt 100% I'd be lying. I don't even know half of it..!!

Upto 470MHz FSB all I needed was 1.2 or so. At 560MHz FSB I need exactly 1.6. Lower or higher fails.

From what I read here, its more dangerous to run vtt below vCore than it is to run it above 1.4 or so.

There are so many conflicting opinions on vTT it's crazy! Especially since the Anandtech article where they fried a CPU. Everyone's terrified of vTT now!

well i still see it as the lower voltage the better in any case.

either way, what it looks like from my end so far, is that, the higher fsb i run. the more vtt i need to keep it stable.

    Hey folks,

My brand spankin' new P5Q-E RMA replacement board is supposed to arrive tomorrow.... Fingers crossed. but should we start a pool on how long it takes to start flaking out?

The TPower has been bombproof thus far... boots every time, no BIOS issues, no 'mystery' voltage changes needed to boot consistently. Think I'm gonna keep it, may put them side by side in the hopes that the I45's stability rubs off on the evil 'E' if needed.

I'll keep ya posted on how she does!

When you recieve it, first thing is to threaten with violence. If it refuses to cooperate, try throwing money at it. And if that doesn't work, then its time for a divorce

Fortunately the shop has only asked that I at least try it before they give me something else in its place. Seems they aren't all that enthused by it either. It it works cool, if not the TPower gets the stay nod & they can send me a hdd or two.

I am now looking at it. I am afraid.
