Have tested mine with OCZ 1600 EB Platinum kid 2x2gb sticks and stable from my point of view, playing games, bench some and so on. Here is a SS. I noticed someone had problems to get RE running with this kit so if someone want to know my biossetting, let me know.

Hi Guys, great thread and contributions - thanks to all.

Been running 0403 for about 2 weeks now, with some early POSTing scares - 'unknown CPU' found and 'WAIT...' message hang entering BIOS. No trouble in recent days though.

Using air and left all the stock cooling in place but put the air cooler (and fan) on instead of the Fusion block. Temps all ok though NB peaks at 46-47c under Prime blend / Memtest HCI at 1.405VNB (set in BIOS). All the blocks and the HPA warm up nicely. Under load board reports Power at 35c or less and Southbridge 35-38c. I think this is ok for 'as shipped', but obviously won't let me go much further for VNB.

Here are some pics of my Noctua NH-U12P cpu cooler which fits both ways with 1 or 2 fans:

Note: pic shows memory in the blue slots (as specified in QVL for this kit) but I switched to the white slots after POST problems above.

    Rampage Extreme / E8600 / OCZ3P18002GK (2x1GB)/ 450x9.5 / 1:2 - screenshot + settings

Here's where I've got to so far: nothing impressive but further than I thought I might get using OCZ with 1:2 on this board

    Memory and NB stability
    -----------------------

To keep voltages at a min and just get the memory up to rated speed and timings, I worked up in 5mhz steps from 400-450fsb with 1:2, tuning up/down to min stable voltages at each stage. This took much too long but was still worth it for getting to know where I actually was. For that reason I've stuck with 0403 for now.

450fsb with 1:2, was unstable even at 1.45VNB and 1.95VDIMM with 100ps NB CLOCK SKEW delay (set manually to 100 at 410fsb).

Setting NB CLOCK SKEW to 200ps worked very well - at 450fsb, using AUTO / Normal / 100 / 300 gave me early freezes or errors in Prime or Intel (Linpack) and extra voltage did not help, but with 200, it behaves.

After 'finding' 200ps at 450fsb, I was able to lower VNB to 1.405V (min found) and VDIMM to 1.908v (min found) - both 0.05V lower (and stable) than where I was with 100ps (and unstable). 1.405VNB for PL7 @ 450/900/8-8-8-24 with 2x1GB is still a bit higher than I was hoping for though. DRAM SKEWS and NB GTL are currently on AUTO.

At these settings, ClockTwister causes instability if set to Strong or Stronger but at least the 200ps NB CLOCK SKEW allowed Moderate instead of Light.

Unfortunately, can't POST above 430fsb with PL6 and 1:2 (hangs on DET RAM) - tried VNB up to 1.48v + extra VDIMM but doesn't help. Will go back later and try sorting this but for now I'm going to push up from 450fsb keeping to 1:2 with PL7.

With PL7, Clocktwister on Moderate, 2N and slack 8-8-8-8-24, I'm losing memory performance all over the place: gives approx 10.5Gb/s Read with 50ns in Everest at this time.

Thanks to Tony at OCZ for providing some great info in his P5E3 Premium and X48 guides over there - I had a much better idea of when and why I might need to skew after finding those - I think a lot of the info is generally applicable to any X48 board and memory, not just the P5E3 Prem and OCZ.

    CPU Voltage, temps and stability
    -------------------------------

After the memory was stable at 900mhz (Orthos/IntelBurn(Linpack)/MemtestHCI/Memtestx86), I found the min CPUVCORE (LLC disabled) for each multi up to 9.5. 4275mhz (9.5) needs 1.33125V (set in BIOS) for 8 hour Prime. High for E8600, but my VID is 1.25 and this chip runs quite cool (Q820A606).

I set CPU clock skew to NORMAL at 400fsb but have not yet found benefit to either 100ps or 200ps delays for Vcore/stability.

Found no need (with dual-core) for extra CPUVTT or PLL at these levels - set manually to 1.10V and 1.510V (both min). Not expecting 450-500fsb to require extra CPUVTT or PLL either. GTLs all at AUTO.

CPU cooler is Noctua NH-U12P + 1 x NF-P12 fan. Hits 55c under Intel at 4275mhz/1.33125V, so it won't get that hot elsewhere. Have second fan for CPU cooler but not tried yet. Max temp shown in screen shot is Real Temp 2.70 which sets TJmax at 95c, which I think is correct (CoreTemp 99.3 auto sets TJmax at 100c but agrees with all temp changes)

Edit: Intel official TjMax 100c (add 5c to quoted temps)

I'm only using Intel for max CPU temps and quick full system tests (10xpass) - errors in here will always give me errors or worse in Prime, so it's quicker for rough stability. Surprisingly to me, condsidering the CPU temps generated by Intel, I found a 0.03125Vcore difference between Intel stable and Prime/Orthos stable with my board/CPU for 450x9.5 - Prime needs the extra Vcore or will restart/freeze/error on small FFTs. This Vcore difference showed the same in OCCT too (OCCT passes with 0.03125 less Vcore than Prime or Orthos). I'm not using LLC.

Well there's no doubt that dual cores perform significantly better then quad but I would like to see some successful quad overclocks at 1:1 which do not exist. Hope new bios will solve many of these problem.

Guys, i just finish installing Thermalright HR-09 S and U for Mosfets. Probe says that Power idle is 36º, load reach 48º. I think is too much hot. Do I need to reinstall the HR?

Power Temp sensor is not on the mosfets It is on the 16 phase power Inductors i believe they are called. At least thats where i have it narrowed down to with a Laser thermometer. Putting a 120 fan blowing on them should keep you under 45 c. If you look right around the CPu socket there are 16 square black things thats what you want to cool

Edit: if you look up a few posts there is some good pics of them they are stamped with White letters 1R0

Very interesting...Before installing the HR-09, the POWER temp was around 45-46º load. Now is higher, 48º, as I have already said.
Again I have to uninstall the mobo to try to understand what I have modified about the IR0 cooling with the HR-09 installation...

    Hi EF - Great run

You either have a gem of a CPU and mobo or the secret to a high FSB is to water cool the CPU & NB. I still can't get anywhere near 450 with mine to run the memory at stock speeds.

...........maybe its just with the 9770 ?.

    HI all
got several problems with current setup
    RE bios v403 / qx9650 / ChellShock MSC (black) pC3-14400 DDR31800/
    i am on XP pro 32bit (SP2) / optional SP3 / (components are in signature )

    ok - have got qx9650 running @4050mhz Prime (blend mode) About 1hour , -> screen attached ->

but so far .. sooner-or-later i will get such ''Corrupt system file'' errors ( error 55 by event log ) - attached screen below ..
and it forces system to run ' Autochk ' program before booting win.XP.
( sometimes it stay in ''endless cycle '' but most times it happen Power OFF/ON will bring it back to xp , but not eliminate the errors)

have to mention that these errors are pointed to random files ..
as you see some samples i capped, but in general it says : ( baloon message )

    Windows - corrupt file
the file or directory C:\WINDOWS\system32 is corrupt and unreadable.
    Please run the Chkdsk utility

also have noticed .. when it already happens ONCE .. then
the bug remains present .. no matter what settings (overclocked or default / clear cmos / nothing helps .. that (corrupt file) error comes back ..

also i have an other ram kit .. throw them in .. clear cmos .. nothing ..
.. and ( already tried ) several times reinstall XP and, also tried with- and without SP3 .. doesn't make any sense currently
    ----
    currently on bios v.403
    used separate HDD drives / 500GB hitacHi / 250GB WD /
    2 different ram kits:
    CellShock (MSC CS3222580)
    G.SKILL F3-10600CL8D-2GBHK
optional .. but using 8800ultra GFX card with this setup ( driver v. 177.83 also tried earlier drivers)

I am NOT running any RAID conf. things here .. just as simple 1 HDD - 1 DVD drive
(it show configure SATA as IDE / enhanched ) ... in hdd conf page in bios

so far i have tried to cross-switch as many components as available, starting from sata cables and even PSU (spare 650W Chieftec) but cannot get over this error ..
btw in some state i got same errors when run dualcore E8400 on that board )

Does somebody have seen something similar malfunctions or errors ?

THANK YOU any tips and ideas will be welcome

    I need a little help....

I have the Rampage Extreme and 4870x2 and I keep getting the BSOD. It doesnt happen all the time but it does happen. The cpu I'm using is QX6850 with 4g(2+2) Cosair Dominator 1800. I'm running everything on air until I get the bugs worked out just incase I need to RMA it. Has anyone else had this issue or currently are?
Im not currently OC just the RAM voltage which is 1.9 as Corsair recommends. I have read that maybe it the temp of the 4870x2 or the board need to be OC or maybe something to due with the RAM.
    Thanks in advance

This should be sticked since the variety of small values such as NB CLOCK SKEW or Clock Twister ( new one for me) can have significant effects on a system. Yes temps, memory use and even ambient temperatures are a factor but I'm sure we can all agree that other than memory modules, the multitude of variances in the bios are quesionable values that can solve alot of headaches so comparing helps and we may discover some consistences in negative or positive values. So I don't care about prime, memory posts blah, blah blah - If you say it's stable then I trust you but give us all an opportunity to see what you've accomplished in bios settings!

You said "quad overclocks at 1:1 which do not exist", which is not true, and has been stated to be acheveable in numerous prior posts. I'm simply pointing out the fact.

Now that the "if" it exists is settled, the "how" will follow since you asked nicely

Now that the "if" it exists is settled, the "how" will follow since you asked nicely

everything else is on auto/default. Kit in sig, note especially the memory and WCed NB. Enjoy!

Oh BTW Think when you game with your 4870X2 can you hear a pretty high pitch noise when you put your ear close to it? just wondering as I've just got mine and the sound is pretty hard to locate... but since it started after adding in the card it's most probably that caused the sound. Otherwise it's an awsome piece of hardware

    Thanks.

Do you have any images on the water cooled setup you have? I'm sure that one of my problems is temps which will soon be solved with the addition of a tripple rad in the loop.

same thing with my 4870x2 at first i was scared i did not know where the noise was coming from lol, it also happens when minimizing/ maximizing a window if Aero is enabled .

Start out at 420 x 9 and increase from there. To be honest I think a lot of quad users including myself are still aiming for decent FSB speed to achieve default memory speeds.
thank rob2k for suggestion for mysystem instable dengan processor QX9770
    i start to :
    http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=414471
    FSB 450 x 7,5 = 3.375 GHZ
setting ai oc tuner must be XMP (extreme memory profile, profile 1),
if i setting ai oc tuner manual/auto with :
    DRAM freq : 1800
    Dram command rate : 1N
Dram timing control : manual 8-8-8-22
    vcore : 1.34375v
    vdimm : 1.94v
    North Bridge : 1.44472
    hangs on DET RAM
I tried to increase the voltage of the vcore, vdimm and NB, but it stays 'hang on DET RAM'. So I returned to ai oc tuner : XMP is not hang on det RAM and I can come into the windows, I can pass the the super pi 1M test, but failed at super pi 4M, and test prime95 is instable.

What it looks like now... but it looks different day to day when I'm testing hardware

Overkill much? The fans on the rads and system are barely spinning though... Silence is bliss
