    Sorry, it's 0501.

No probs - not too hot on the raid on this board - someone else i'm sure will assist. Might be worth entering more default speeds/voltages to override the auto settings in the bios.

Maximus/Rampage Formula/Extreme P5E3 Deluxe/Premium/WS EVO ect all have the same MOSFET mounting hole dimensions.

As far as i know thermalright use two different HS for the two mosfets. But enzotech seems to offer just one HS for both mosfets. Is this going to work?

The Thermalright ones are both the same base, just slightly different heatpipe config. One is straight and the other is sort of diagonal.

Yes, that helped with one stick of ram so i'm sure once I've installed sp1 it should better address 4 gigs.

However, I do see my Raid 0 during my initial Vista installation but when I select driver ( which I have on my flash drive) it only has one that is compatible:

    iaStor_ICH8RICH9RICH10R = "Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R SATA RAID Controller"

But when I choose it and try to install it says that Vista cannot find the storage device. So which is it for vista x64?

    iaAHCI_ESB2 = "Intel(R) ESB2 SATA AHCI Controller"

Hi guys, I'm trying to OC my Q9650 with my Rampage Extreme, but it seems like I'm getting a little bit of problems. With the setting I'm gonna post in a second, I can boot into Windows, but it's not stable...at all. Any suggestion? I have:

-450 FSB with multiplier at 9
    -Skew Auto
    -Strap @ 266
    -RAM Freq @ 1800 with 1.98 vdram
    -Read and Write control disabled
    -Clock twister moderate
    -Transaction booster moderate
    -Performance Lev 6
    -V.Core 1.32
    -LLC disabled
    -PPL 1.54
    -FSB termination voltage 1.32
    -NB voltage 1.4
    -SB 1.5 and 1.06
    -Everything else is on [Auto]

The CPU is cooled by the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme, RAM are 4x 1 GB of TWIN3X2048-1800C7DFIN DDR3. How can I get it stable to 4Ghz daily? Is it actually possible? Any other suggestion?!

    Thanks

You're welcome. To date, all Rampage Extreme BIOS's have issues with quad core processors. 0501 is no exception, but does seem pretty stable with my dual core. Don't use 0301. I would stick with 0501 or 0403.

lol, so if 0301 is bad, and 0501 sucks for quads, what are you supposed to use?

Mine booted right up without a hitch on one stick of ram. Shut down and added the other stick as suggested here and it was running at 3.6GMh All on auto. Went back and found a few volts on the high side so look for that. Fun board to tweak with if, it likes your ram you should have no problems

Knowing that latest bios has problems with quads makes me happy ! Only way I could downgrade would be by using floppy, but since I haven't one I cannot do anything. Mezzro, please, could you give me some advice?

The last semi-stable setup was this:

-450 FSB with multiplier at 9
    -Skew Auto
    -Strap @ 266
    -RAM Freq @ 1800 with 1.98 vdram
    -Read and Write control disabled

No. What I meant was that 501 is the best of the BIOS's IMO, but still not stable with quad cores: this board is not yet quad friendly (esp at clock speeds in excess of 4.00GHz).

While it's contrary to conventional OC wisdom, the best approach on this board with quads is to use auto overclock settings until a more mature BIOS is released. Set your multi to 9x and try the two default OC settings: "QX9770" and "Crazy." Set your strap to 400MHz. Leave all else at auto. If you're able to run stable, bump the multi to 10x. Normally I would recommend disabling LLC, but the vdroop is so bad here (on vcore) that it's necessary to use it in most cases.

Intel QX9650 set vcor to 1.35
Mushing Ram Mushkin Acsent 996625 (2x4g) set to 1.90 - ran memory test and all is well
    Turned off auto fan functions
    Turned off Marvel chipset
Set Intel to Raid for both raptors, set my plextor sata drive as my primary boot.
Vista starts to load, I choose my language then BLUE SCREEN APPEARS. Tried with only 1 stick. I didn't even have a chance to select the appropriate drivers for the chipset!.

    Bios 0501
Try leaving auto functions on for setup, including vcore. Double check your RAID driver disk and make sure you created it using the 64 bit Intel RAID driver app from the mobo drivers disk and not the 32 bit app.

This has been a great Thread, and has motivated me into getting an RE.

DeathWalker, I'm using bios 403 right now along with the 9650. Just a basic OC of 425 X 8.5 with the G.SKILL running at 1700 7-7-7-18.

    Good luck with it.

Yes, it's possible on air. My first advice would be to lose 2GB of RAM until you achieve a stable 4.00GHz OC. Much easier to overclock with 2GB than with 4GB. Leave RAM timings at auto until you get your CPU clock speed stable, then go back and use manual settings to increase RAM speed and tighten timings. Increase your strap to 400MHz. Ensure you have adequate vdimm, according to mfr specs. Enable LLC. Increase NB voltage to 1.60. Leave PPL, but increase to 1.60v, as well, if you find 4.00GHz unstable. My personal experience has been that Clock Twister and Transaction Booster do nothing to increase stability and everything to counter it. Again, just my personal experience. Others here swear by it. Try leaving them at auto first. If unstable, revert both to your settings above. Necessary vcore varies with each processor -- some do better than others at low voltages. Usually, though, to hit an OC on or about 4.00GHz. you will need at least a 1.40 or 1.45vcore. Sometimes higher. Don't go above 1.50 on air. I wouldn't exceed 1.65 vcore on water with LLC enabled.

I had put some of the stuff that came in yesterday.

The Board came in with 0301 Bios, flashed it to 0403. Also, it looks like the NB gets pretty hot(42C idling @ 1.3V). I would have to apply MX-2 and reseat the heatpipe thingy tomorrow. It seems like it also doesn't like my OCZ DDR3 2000 4GB kit. It gives a ton of errors in memtest @ default settings.

I will have try 0501 and if it still doesn't work, I would have to put my OCZ on the S2E and put my GSkills on the RE.

Also, for now I have just installed XP on the Samsung F1 and haven't opened my OCZ Core 2 SSDs and the raid card yet. Will do it sometime this week after I figure out the board behaviour with the various sticks of RAM that I have.

You can flash back with a usb stick.

Put your desired bios onto a usb stick, boot, enter bios and go to "tools", there you'll find EZ flash, it's pretty straight forward and allows you to up and downgrade bios.

    Hi Tekjunkie - nice build

Is your OCZ a 2x2Gb or 4x1Gb kit ?. I had the same issues with my 4x1Gb kit which worked well on my last board - the SIIE - so good plan to swap them across. My G.Skills worked well at their stock 1600Mhz speeds but I really want 450FSB on this board so changed them for the Dominators. I wanted a high confidence level that the memory will not give out first when increasing the bus speed.
    My rig :-

    2xSamsung 20xDVD-RW SATA.
    O/S: Vista Ultimate 32bit SP1.

Thanks. They are the 2x2 Gb kit. The wierd thing is I swapped my RAM to the gskill BHzs and it picked up the XMP profile on the SPD and it's running the FSB @ 400x7.5 for the stock speed of 3GHZ. I left everything on auto, so the vcore is too high for the stock speeds(1.31V).It's not even SPI 32M stable. I have to play around a bit in the BIOS and I have a feeling that I have a long road ahead of me much like the S2E. I had a tough time figuring that board out, but once you figure it out, it rewards you.

I've tried to remove 2GB but it still gives me problems, the LCD Poster says Check DRAM (or something like that, I don't remember exactly) and it won't boot in any way. The ONLY setup which made me boot into Windows is the one I've posted before, but it wasn't stable. I've also flashed the bios back to 0404, still no results. This is the neverending story , the ONLY way I can be stable is to have the RAM at 1600 with 400 FSB, I'm beginning to think that it's the RAM'S fault...
