i just pluged all on and it Works!!!!!!

first thing to do before go any longer, Flash Bios to 1814 whit iflash solution whit my USB, then play around whit the FSB and get 385x8 on my Q9450, i donīt want to touch the v so i donīt think to go far from here

    my setup:
    BX38BT /bios 1814
    Q9450 @ 385MHz x 8/Vendetta 2
    2x1Gb Gskill @ 1600MHz 7-7-7-18-60 T1
    Visiontek 4870 820Mhz / 1120Mhz
    P&C silencer 750 crossfire edition
    Maudio 1010lt

iīd like to go 1800Mhz whit the Gskills but it seems that only 1600MHz are avaliable....

I was going to try dropping mine a bit as well (no major OC to begin with) to get rid of the issues I had with 1814, but I thought since everything ran so well with the prior bios, I would just try going back first. Which seemed to work for me. Now the random reboot issue is gone, but every once in a while the machine refuses to sleep. Hard to tell where to start on that one because of the crossfire drivers and OC and bios. Oh well, at least it works.

I guess I'll have to re-install anyway, at least to check if the SATA issue goes away. I thought of going x64 as well but not sure anymore. How are drivers for x64 nowadays? I'm only on 2GB at the moment so maybe it's not really necessary.
I was going for the 1814 but don't know anymore. Some problems seem to exist. Guess I'll wait a while.
Intel has been quiet for long now, no new releases. They now have the chipset drivers saying for X38 and X48, but the older version still.
I can't remember any BSOD for a long time now and latelly I had 2, this is odd. Also, my Norton now goes nuts sometimes, giving errors all the time. I was moving my rig and, like everyone else, after a power disconnection there comes the no boot issue. I hope my hard drive isn't going bad. I really have to unplug it when this happens also. Don't wanna ruin it.

i'm liking Vista 64 so far. most of the programs i have installed are 32-bit programs, but everything installed easily except my four year-old Dell printer software.

every time i do a soft reboot from Windows i get a BSOD after the computer reboots when Windows tries to load now. i know i recently swapped my system memory, but i've tested stable again and again. i've passed Memtest, Prime, and even Intel Linpack. no errors on any of those tests. this is the exact same issue i had two BIOS releases ago. the only way around it is to turn the computer off, wait a couple seconds, and turn it back on again. hitting "Restart" from within Windows guarantees Windows won't load after the reboot. this is clearly a motherboard issue.

Well I called Intel up and since I'm considered International ( Canada ) I have to ship it to them first ( $32.00 ) and wait for it to arrive. I'm going to put my q6600 with the extra DDR3 and one Raptor 150 and build a separate gaming rig with the Asus rampage..

Also noticed that after coming out of sleep mode:

    CPU temp reads -1C
    Mboard Temp 255C
    No system fan RPMS.

    All this from Everest.

See my previous post. I have the same issues and I'm wondering if it's my 4870X2 instead of the MB. I'm hesitant to put my 8800GTX back in, but I might just do it this weekend to eliminate that possibility.

i've confirmed that Intel does not have a Dolby Control Center installer for Vista 64. they only have a 32-bit version. when i try to install it, it says it can't find "stapi32.dll" in the audio driver. the obvious fix to that is to install the 32-bit audio driver instead of the 64-bit audio driver, right? wrong. Intel has a universal audio driver installer that comes in one package and automatically detects your OS. therefore, i can't install the 32-bit driver. i'm stuck with the 64-bit one, which means i can't install Dolby. which means i have a handful of movies i can't watch the right way.

i switch over to my XP x86 partition and everything works fine. if anyone has a way around this, i'll pay good $$$ for an answer.

    Hi x

Hasn't happened again since, mistery why it did in the first place. Anyway, seems to be normal again.
Regarding Dolby, I can install Dolby Control Center (I'm on x32) but the Dolby tab doesn't show in the IDT audio drivers. Don't really watch movies on the PC but it's still a bummer.
Has Intel given you any solution? Maybe there isn't a x64 version really.
That's the kind of thing that still keeps me away from x64, still limited support.

Intel responded by saying they don't offer a 64-bit version, which i had already figured out. i told them i didn't consider that a very good answer and i want something done about that. haven't heard back from them yet.

i can watch movies without the Dolby control center, of course, but i'm not getting the quality and features i want. i specifically need the ability to downscale from 7.1 to stereo sound. i'm using a program called Media Player Classic HomeCinema that uses my video cards' Avivo capabilities. i can watch 1080p high def movies on my computer and it only uses 3% of my CPU because it's all being rendered on my video card. very cool stuff. the problem is that this program is trying to output 7.1 sound and my surround speakers are sitting in a box somewhere. when i run these movies in XP x86, everything works. when i run them in Vista 64 with no Dolby, i get no sound.

i still consider sound cards a ripoff, so i'll hope my persistence can get Intel to support their product the way they should.

    Exclamation Server Based Operating Systems

Is that true that I cannot install Server based Windows (like: windows 2003 server) on my DX38BT based system?!
it seems that intel doesn't support Server Based Operating Systems on its Desktop Boards!

Intel doesn't support much of anything. that doesn't mean you can't run Windows Server 2003 on this motherboard though. the motherboard doesn't care which OS you install.

    xMrBunglex,

it seems you have newly installed IDCC on your Vista x64 OS.
I have many problems with this beta software, and I wanted to know if you have one of these problems with IDCC.
The problem is that Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility Service (PerfTuneService.exe) is not starting up sometimes, resulting in IDCC start up failure.
and I will also get an error when I'm going to start it manually from services console.
    Did you encounter this ever?

i don't think i've had that particular problem, but it is a beta program. there are other, better programs available for system monitoring. i use Everest Ultimate. all the features in IDCC that aren't in Everest (fan speed control, memory timings) are generally best edited in the BIOS anyway.

+1 for Lavalys's Everest Ultimate edition. Recently updated to 4.6 and properly recognizes my DX48BT2 instead of reporting it as a DX38BT as the previous edition did. Also is ready for Core i7 monitoring as well. Here's their page on "what's new" : http://www.lavalys.com/products/what...?ps=UE&lang=en

Probably the best system monitoring app bar none.

    Yes, you are right
But setting the fan control to Automatic(Enabled) in my DX38BT BIOS, makes no difference, and the fan speed remains on 800-900 rpm all the way!

    I correct my previous post,

The automatic Fan Control in Bios, seems to work time to time.
I had problem with it before, but now in my Vista x64 it worked !!!

    Need some assitance

So this seems to be the only board on the net with good info on this mobo from my experiences....

So I was able to overclock (Q6600) to 3.0 which is all i really wanted, it took forever and the settings that worked were as follows:

    Vcore (default of 1.325)
    FSB: (default 1.20)
    MCH: (default 1.25)

    FSB : 333 X 9 multi
Mem ref freq : 400 fsb
    Mem mhz : 1333
C1E or whatever disabled, EIST as well
    Watchdog disabled, Enhanced powerslope enabled

This worked after i relaxed my corsair 1333 pc 1066 timings from the default of 7-7-7-20 to 9-9-9-24 and put voltage to 1.70 from default 1.54 (although it may of worked at default voltage but i didn't test it since it was rated at 1.7)

However, i noticed when i wasn't just killing the power by pressing the button (hard boot), and i would actually go through the shutdown process, the reboot would just hang at an empty black screen. If i turned off the power supply and tried again it would go through the normal start/restart once and then be fine.

Why is this only an issue with normal reboot, i would rather not have to hard boot every time since its not the best for the PC. Although i suppose i could just shut off the power supply after every shutdown, but thats not that convenient.

On a side note with my memory settings of FSB 333, mem ref 400 and mem mhz 1333, i only get something like 1100ish clock speed, i tried using the memory calculator to go down to 266 mem ref freq and 1066 clock speed to get 1333 speed, but i had to jump the bios because of constant reboots.

    Thanks in advance,
    -Mark

I think the reboot problem is that you have the reference frequency set to 400. This also underclocks your memory.

You should be able to run 333/1333 with all your default timings and memory voltage.

Do you have the X38 or X48 board?

can you explain that please? my computer won't soft boot without blue screening, but i don't see how the FSB reference frequency has anything to do with that. i run mine at 400/1333 because of my high FSB.

Sorry MB, this was more for Solaxun. He's got a low fsb (only 333) and I think that the 400 ref freq may be setting the mch timings too loose.

    gtj,

I will try to lower the memory ref frequency to 333 from 400, i think it was defaulting at 266 if i remember. I will keep FSB at 333, mem mhz at 1333, and everything else stock as well. Please note that with mem ref freq @ 400, the system was stable, it just wouldn't soft boot without hanging at the black screen, hard booting was fine, and soft booting with turning power supply off afterwards was also fine.

I will get back to you this evening or shortly after, thanks for your reply i appreciate your help alot, you've already saved me tons of time through your posts.

Ok, so i kept everything unchanged but put the ref freq back down to 333 from 400, resulting in an effective memory clock of 1333. Same results as other clocks, system hanged at a black screen, this time i was able to get lucky and reboot 5 or 6 times until i got back to the bios, didn't have to jump it.

So the settings i posted previously are what i am using for now, but my memory is clocked under its rated 1333 memory, and a bit over its SPD of 1066, at an effective memory of 1150ish. This is now on windows xp 64, i was on 32 bit earlier and upgraded.
