No modded bios is working with the Catalyst 8-52 and Catalyst 8.8...any idea if the CCC limit can be increased by using the signature of this Gainward Golden Sample HD 4850 bios

    http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/2...12.080806.html

A limit of 750Mhz on the core makes a lot of sense as most of the cores can do arnd that much only without any hard mods

yes, this is very well possible, according to the "F.A.Q" in rbe 1.14 the author has written that the signatures that are signed by ati are used to increase the ccc clock limits, so that it works properly with the drivers.

    "Urgent information on overdrive increase

What is this all about? Maybe you tried overclocking your card using overdrive and found yourself running into the upper limit there. ATI implements this limit into their cards to assure the video card vendors don't overclock their chips too much. They just want to have an overview over the market and maybe, want to participate in the more expensive OC edition cards. Thus, the video card vendors make a video card, create a BIOS for it and send this BIOS to ATI. ATI approves the BIOS (or not), adds a signature to it and sends it back to the vendor. Only then the vendor can produce and ship the card, this is not possible without that signature. The signature mentioned is an encrypted key. The overdrive limit in the BIOS is protected by this key. It can be changed, but if so, the key won't match any more which makes the catalyst driver not recognize the card any more and therefore, this BIOS is unusable. RBE can't decrypt this key, but it can transplant an overdrive limit and its key to another BIOS.
Even though this is an attractive method, it has some disadvantages:
    1) There must be BIOSes with increased limits and matching signatures. So far, RBE's author is not familiar with so many such BIOSes.
    2) The area that needs to be put into the BIOS contains the deviceID, also. If you are keen enough to put a HD 4850 hash into a 3870 BIOS for example (not recommended, though), be prepared for strange things to happen: Programs that make decisions out of a card's deviceID (just like RBE for example) will be fooled then, of course. Maybe you will have to install the matching catalyst for the new card (in this case, the one for the 4850) after flashing and rebooting. But of course, the 3870 is still a 3870, not supporting many things the 4850-catalyst expects to work. Please try not to mix up video card types, at least not among the video card generations (like 3xx0 and 4xx0 for example). The key matching your card best will be suggested by RBE automatically.

    __________________________________________________ _____________________________________

As you can see, there are two methods offered. The first one takes all the stuff described above into account. It's the safer variant, but only available for several video cards. If you can select 'method 1' and 'change to these values', your card is supported. The second method won't take care of the signature described. It will simply change the (protected) overdrive clocks to the values entered. While this can be done to almost any video card, keep in mind that the key won't match any more after changing the limit that way. Some card/Catalyst combination might work however, at least there are reports on the internet that they do. Just try if it works for you if method one is not available for you."
So we need to either report to the author, or we try and manually implement this key by our self. So yes it is very possible

Hey mate, can you edit my Bios to a upperlimit of 1100/1300 and a clock of 160/500 with low voltage for low power consumption under Idle (Powerplay)

Here is the link to my Bios
    http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/1...12.080602.html

I have Catalyst 8.8, will I need to roll back my Driver to older version to Flash the bios ?

    Thanks a lot.

How are the fan profiles on this one?
If it doesn't get too hot idle/load with a regular hd 4850 cooler I might give it a flash try if it will work with CCC 8.8.

The problem is with the RAM sub-timings as the Gainward card uses Samsung 0.8ns DDR3 . I got a few red dots here nd there at boot up after flashing to this bios. Went back to the powercolor one with 720Mhz limit

I have 4x 3870 water cooled and voltmodded to 1.675V. I pulled down a newer BIOS from Techpowerup, 010.081.001.000 and proceeded to modify it with RBE 1.14. I did touch the custom clocks page. I also selected "Method 1" from the other clock page, and RBE said I would be able to go up to 1100 GPU speed in overdrive, but my max there is 900MHz.

Also in Catalyst 8.6 I can do Quad CrossfireX, in 8.7 and 8.8 I cannot do anything more than 2-way Crossfire, with the same hardware. Anybody else having this issue?

I have attached the BIOS I am using. Any help getting themax clock up past 900 would be great. I have set some of the voltages in the clocks panel to keep the idle voltage at 1.4V and the load voltage at 1.675V with the voltmod I have on each card. I want to set the system to 1000MHz GPU and 1271MHz memory on the 4x video cards just like I was able to with the older 010.071.000.000 BIOS that was posted early this year to get past the 862MHz GPU speed limiter.

RBE v1.15 is ready for download!

    That's the changes:

    v1.15
    - Fixed bug causing an error message on loading several BIOSes (small ones like several 3870 X2 BIOSes).
    - Added remote control feature for WinFlash to acquire and flash BIOSes from within RBE. Will be included in the tutorial soon.
    - Superior PowerPlay should be available for more 4870 BIOSes now.
    - Added link to the tutorial in the menu bar. (Info... Tutorial on how to use RBE (websource)...)
    - Added display for the card's internal voltage table (it's in the clock settings tab).
    - Fixed a bug causing the device ID being written incorrectly if it's changed in rare cases. Coded this very drunk, there might be bugs... :-/
    - Added some nice method one hack signatures (4850, 4870 X2).
    - Added a feature for method one overdrive hack signature saving and loading.

Have fun using it and please be sure to make extensive use of the signatures exchanging thread!

Is there a way to increase VGPU back to 1.21V like in a BIOS edit? I ran auto tune and got 690/1093.....
I know I can edit the voltage in the XML profile, but when I tried it didn't seem to work...

use RBE 1.15 to edit your voltage in your original bios and reflash with the card 1.158 in RBE will give you max voltage.

It will also work on cat 8.8/9.It will NOT work on 8.8/9 if the bios is modded to more than 1.158v.

Interesting. So the key is to keep the voltage settings within the given boundaries? Entering voltages beyond these boundaries is pointless anyway as the hardware won't set those values. So this would be no real restriction.

I have the same issues with 3870 cards which are modded. Today I will try going to a pure stock Diamond 010.073.000.xxxxx BIOS, no mods at all, to see if Catalyst 8.7, 8.8 or 8.9 recognizes 4 cards. Then if the BIOS voltage setting is what's really messing things up I will adjust my pots. Currently the cards run 1.4V idle, close to 1.7V at load. Remember these are 3870s. If I can get that working then I will try putting in the "Method #1" signature to unlock the upper speed so I can run the cards at 1000/1275. I'll post my findings tonight, hopefully. Same thing should apply to the 4850 too.

Holy crap... you really need a better CPU *cough C2D * to help unshackle those 3870s. Both of mine score about 15.2k on my system once a new CPU is plonked in I'll be beating your results

Agreed, however when I built the system it wasn't certain how limited the Phenoms were. I am eagerly awaiting the 45nm CPUs coming up from AMD... should help unlock some of the potential of my video array and should plug right into the MSI K9A2 Platinum. Back to the subject at hand, I will post about my findings on the voltage settings and CCC 8.8/8.9 compatibility.

Wait....I thought the BIOS limited it at 1.21V? Is it 1.158V or 1.21V?

Ah I see after reading the post from TPU that 1.158V in BIOS actually sets 1.2V via multimeter....I'll try when I get home. Thanks!

    Hi,

Would be the Sapphire HD4850 Modded Bios will work under CCC 8.10Beta and Windows Vista 32Bit? Thanks
