The machine has been stable with mild overclock but I have spent days trying to "stablize" the system from the raid failure message without success. I have now just learned to ignore the message and just wait for new drives in hope of a fix.
Are you serious? Omg... Seems NV boards are still what they used to be, utter crap. I can't believe this is happening, after the 680/780i they swore to get rid of those problems.
And I can't even insert a 3rd party raidcon thanks to Tri-SLI.. my customer's not gonna like this, not at all

Lol, wasn't this the 2nd time they took that driver back down?
Reinstalling right now, let's try that ancient 9.64...

, what the hell is going on here?
I've tried 2 times now, Vista kills itself at exactly the same point.

    1. I install Vista 64 Ultimate SP1.
    2. It completes without hassle, I install Nforce driver 9.64 and reboot
    3. It installs fine, reboots and throws no errors so I install the 177.41 GFX driver and reboot
    4. It says "boot disk failed" after that and won't boot, booting from CD and trying repair doesn't work either

On the VR Raid0. WTF should I do? Go without Raid? Sucks. Try 15.17 driver and disable NCQ? Try with 9.64 again but also disable NCQ?

    Man this blows.

Check your Boot Order on BIOS
Make sure your have your two velociraptors first, then the other stuff after. That happens to me when I had my Maxtor to boot first instead of my Raptor lol.

Also, you guys can try 19.06 which is the candidate to become WHQL, is in Guru3d

    good luck

I have remotely decided that when I get the money (Which would be 160 dollars or so) I'm getting a eVGA 790i FTW, and I'm going to say #*$% You to this S2E -_-.

PS and no, I'm not saving the money for a Nelahem board, When in no way in hell can a afford a Core i7 Extreme right now.

So I'm either RMA'ing it, Then Selling it, or using it in a backup case.

Also the Nforce 19.06 drivers are the easiest to install on vista for a RAID setup.

So you also give up Warboy?
    sorry to hear that

I will also have to make a decision once my WC comes. I just spent $130 two days ago buying some of the components, still a long way to get all the WC parts, but Im getting there. Then, it will all be about overclocking, results and stability.

I cant afford a Core i7 right now neither, but heck, I have spent 3k on this system and I know I can make it last a long-@ss time.

Can you honestly blame me for all the problems I've had with ASUS boards and now with my S2E, The NB is failing, and ASUS still hasn't gotten back to me about a RMA. It's been 2 weeks just waiting for a call back.

I'm going to be grabbing the same board for my bench setup, where are you finding a price that low? PM if you want to keep it out of the thread.

Im not blaming you, but it is true that this motherboard sometimes makes life harder than anything.

Have you contacted them through here http://livesupport.asus.com/ ???

Btw, does anybody know what happened to tyke?

Hmm, are me and Tyke the only people who are having any kind of luck with this board? Well atleast I stayed away from NV for my Qx9650 build and got a rampage extreme.

That was the first thing I did.
Guess what, Vista is not dead, on the contrary. It's the ing stupid mobo giving me crap. Listen to this fellas...

If I don't have any CD/DVD in my drives, but set boot priority to HDD 1st (no other drives attached, only the VRs so they are on top naturally) the mobo just says boot disk failure after a few seconds.

Now, if I insert the Vista DVD and reboot, I see the "press a button if you want to enter setup" screen - remember, I did NOT change boot priority, it's still on HDD 1st - so why the hell does it boot from CD then?!

Now on to the good part: If I wait a few seconds and don't enter setup, Vista will boot up fine.
If I remove the DVD it's boot disk failure again.

    I ing hate this mobo.

No, I had a very good benching experience with the board once I figured out the quirks, just wish I had a better chip. I ran into a hard FSB wall at 480, memory can go higher, but the chip just won't go. I didn't want to crank the Vcore and try since I don't have a backup at the present time.

I still haven't decided on my 24/7 settings, but I think I will end up somewhere between 1780 and 1860 FSB Linked and Synced.

my E8600 arrived today, once I get home I'll see what she can do and post some results. I'm crossing my fingers for some 5ghz action. Ohh, and I ordered a CPU Pot today so I'll have the system under some DICE soon.

Well everything is fine over here, at least at stock speeds Intel Burn Test passes 100 times ^^

I said Boot Devices, not Boot Priority.
Go to Boot Devices and with the "+" button bring your hard drive (ex: RAPTOR010101 to the first place.

    Sticking with this board

As much time as I have had with this board I am not ready to give up yet. I have invested too much time trying to learn to get this motherboard stable. I am currently doing well, board is stable with a mild overclock of 20% e8400 3.0 overclocked to 3.6. Other then this useless raid error message my board is stable. I can game all night long. I was about to jump on the beta driver mentioned above nForce Driver 19.06 hoping to rid myself of this stupid raid error message but that is only for 32 bit systems. I am running Vista64. Next step add another loop to watercool this system, replace the NB & SB blocks with better waterblocks and ... well just hang in there a little longer. I must admit I got a second machine with an intel chipset for backup the ASUS Rampage Formula. I have never had a better easier to use and overclock board then that Rampage ... or is it I just left a Nvidia chipset motherboard? Actually of the 680i, 780i and 790i I had the least trouble with the 680i (Abit's version). Here to all of us that still hand in there with it whether it is smart or foolhardly.

Wow.... Stock voltages on everything and I just booted in at 4ghz.... I have a feeling this chip might be a monster! I had to have 1.45 to even get into windows on the quad. next step 5ghz... ill post some screen shots soon.

Here's a rough OC. No tuning done yet. 4750 MHZ. I'm pleased since I couldnt get the quad past 4350

You're in Eagan...hello from Cottage Grove!

You can't really compare a dual to quad, its apples to oranges. But, glad to see you found a chip and a setup you like with the board!

    Stock or Auto

Are you taking stock voltages or AUTO? Auto means the motherboard overclockes itself.

Nice! Where is Hanley Falls? I'm a transplant to MN, originally from Grand Rapids, MI.

BlueAqua, a LC section regular is from Minneapolis, I've come to know him quite well since we found out how close we were.

I only have the VR attached, so when I enter the HDD boot devices screen, there is nothing to be changed because there is only 1 HDD boot source.

More comments on that ridiculous problem, anyone? I'm tempted to use the "Asus repair kit" soon

There's a small metal tab next to the edge of the battery, push it away from the battery and it will pop right out.
