Umm you missed the point... the Lazor probe is like 98% accurate and realtemp was reading 13c higher then my heatsink base probe test on this E8600 and as for my Q6600 it was 5c variance from what realtemp was reading ... see what i am saying?

So i don't think it was really at 56c more like 43ish to 50ish maybe.

No.... Your missing the point. Your measuring the temps from the IHS with the laser right? The quad core will heat the IHS more than the dual core from the same internal temp. Real temp reads from the internal sensor, not the IHS. If a dual core and quad core read the same temps per the internal sensor, the IHS will be much hotter on the quad core. quad core heats the IHS so much more than the dual core that you get closer to the same reading from your laser.

I recieved my E8600 batch number Q820A405 from the egg. Had high hope for it but this joker runs hot Just like a few other people have posted. Sitting here idle @4.25Ghz im at 54c on my cores. Primed for 15 mins she is over 80c. I noticed someone has some e8600's up for acution on ebay batch number Q820A593 (used) so i went ahead and bought one i sure hope it is better If anything it cant be any worse. I just wonder why he has so many of these used. There is 4 more up for auction right now. Anyways maybe i will get lucky this time. If anyone running one of these batch Q820A593 Could you please post some of your temp and overclock results. The only thing i can find on that batch number is in japanese. 640FSB is all i could make out ...... Thanks and remember if you smell smoke you might have just overclocked a bit too far

Ah yeah i was tired last night and never thought of that as the two cores won't heat the cap up as much as the quad-cores will. So it makes sense now i am awake again and having my coffee....

I just wanted to try and make sure realtemp is reading it right at the Intels spec of 100 TJ MAX.

looks like you got a good one from that batch I have seen more people complain about heat from that batch. Your one of the few with a good one. But yeah it is mounted good . I even lapped it gave me about -4c from what it was.
was only getting about 50% contact before now im about 90%. My q6600 runs cooler then this chip. Im watercooling , water temp is good lots of flow danger den MC-TDX block. I think it is time to drill a hole in it and put it on a keychain slap the Q6600 back in here till the new E8600 chip gets here
I was messing around this morning trying to find the lowest volts i can run this at still had it set fairly high from trying to get 4500mhz stable. Right now i have a 1.24 Vcore set ( failed prime 95) but my idle temp is 44 loaded 65. So i need to go back up with the Vcore. But i think im going to slap the quad back in and play with that till the new E8600 gets here

Many of these CPU's can hit 4.5ghz from 1.28-1.30v, but not prime stable for hours on end or any longtime frame unles your one lucky son of a gun.

Point is many can do what he has done as it is OCCT test stability which is OK for 1 hour testing that it does.

Either way its nice to dream that we could run 100% stable 24/7 at 4.5ghz using 1.28v.

Leeghoofd try and get him to do 5.0ghz at 1.35-1.40v and run that test again as i would be interested in that and impressed then.

If i am sounding sarcastic or rude ... its not mean't to be like that, but i want to see better GHZ at lower vcore 100% stable for at least 12 hours prime blend.

What can a person build for cooling for around $300.00-$400.00 and have say temps in the MINUS area or very close?

My chip is rubbish. LOL. It failed Prime after 2 hours at only 4.3GHz using 1.392V. That's garbage compared to most others. Still, it'll be OK at 4.25GHz for everyday use.

5ghz is totally out of the question on his cheap WC setup... temps are already spiking up to 60°C level... you guys just expect too much... 4.5Ghz is already nice at those volts... why you need 5ghz daily at a way too high voltage requirement for most and don't even think about the heat output... and most do 4.5 round 1.3-1.35 level looking at my own list... so 1.28 is a nice result to me...

Nilos is a gamer, does't even run prime for hours (my advice), he just uses OCCT and 3D benches (which he loves)... and daily usage is his stability test Beastnostro... funny you ask for 5Ghz stable as in your 8600 thread you started out at 4Ghz and moved up to 4.2 as minimum requirement...

BeastNotro, you don't sound rude or sarcastic - you sound bitter.
That being said for $400 you could build a water chiller if you're crafty.

I for one agree with that statement. I only use my PC for gaming but I would wager most people (who are confident with their overclocks ) would say that the best method for testing your CPU is Prime95 for a minimum of 2 hours small fft's that puts the most stress on the cpu. Some people say 4-8 hours at least and that's the category I fall under. Let's face it, a 4-8 hour run while you're sleeping isn't going to hurt is it? In many of the forums I have seen you mostly see screenshots of Prime, second to that Othos and thirdly OCCT. That speaks volumes to me.

Maybe we should run all three one after the other for 2 hours each LOL. And even then whos to say that it is 100% stable. Up to the individual I guess.

    Just my two cents fellas.

That being said for $400 you could build a water chiller if you're crafty.

Yeah i started at 4.0ghz minimum, but agreed with many that the majority if these Cpu's can hit and run 4.0ghz stable np's, so the minimum is 4.2ghz as that in itself for some builds they can't do it prime stable for even 3 hours (which IMO is way to low), but i had to make a minimum prime requirement and 3 hrs it is.

I would rather see 12hrs minimum prime blend stable, but that is asking to much from many ppl who think 1 hour is good enough...

Now why i asked for Nilos to try 5.0ghz low volts is thats something i like to see is all and prime stable for at least 12hrs and that would be impressive as then i would fall off my chair drooling about the day i can do that...

    Buy a OCZ freezer ...

I am itching to try it, but i think temps maybe over 60C and i don't like to see that, but it is OK for 24/7 if 60-65C, but if it reaches 70C-80C ... forget it as Air Cooling just won't cut it at those temps 24/7.

Maybe i just will crank her up and do a Super Pi and HDtach, plus HDtune and call it stable... ... Then have a BSOD when playing COD 4 and yell and scream and post on here about what a POS chip and mobo i have....

I am not bitter as i have never even tried over 4.3ghz yet, so i don't know what the highest Prime Blend Stable (at least 12hrs for me) all i was pointing out is the DREAM i had is all and hopefully someone can post some Dreamful OC's prime blend stable for 12hrs is what i like to see as like i mentioned and we all know its true ..... many of the chips can hit 4.5-4.8ghz at decent/mid-high volts ... but stability IMO again is 12hrs minimum of prime blend.

My thread i made again i set the minimum to 3 hours, but that does not mean the build is 100% stable either .. heck even 12hrs i can't state it is 100% 24/7stable, but i have never had any issues after doing so on any of my past OC's. I Orthos Primed Blend this OC for 16hrs and that is very very stable IMO, i have primed OC's before to 8 hours and crashed during GAME play or PC froze up when doing 3Dmark 03 testing, so more volts were needed on CPU and primed blend test (My New Standard) 12hrs minimum now.

And as you pointed out that for cooling ... a $400.00 unit like that would most definately help a 5.0ghz OC to run stable and cool for hours on end.
