Retail E8600 Overclock, Temps, Settings Thread

Ok guys i got my CPU two days and wanted to read and post about it, but server was down and now is backup.

Ok i am at 4.2ghz and right this min i am so far 9 hrs and (still going) Orthos Stable.

Batch Number is Q822A441 and its one i have only seen one other on the net when googling it.

True VID is 1.25

Bios specs:

Full Load Priming Vcore is (flucuates) 1.328 to 1.336.

Temps MAX full load Realtemp has ever hit is 56C and thats only once in awhile when priming it, but average temp is around 50C-52C throughout the 9 hours priming thusfar.

Sorry Beast, I'm not too familiar with that board.

I've had two of these chips in the past week.
Chip 1: Q820A596 bad clocker, stuck sensors. I returned it. Could get stable at 1.36v at 4.3GHz
Chip 2: Q820A597 so far so good. 4.4GHz at 1.34v and working on stability. I think I can get it up to 4.5 with some more tweaking at around 1.41v (tried this but the temps were nuts...I need to reseat.)

Yeah i know rampage and even nvidia mobo's are different when it comes ot NB and VTT volts, plus PLL.

Now is my CPU a GOOD OC'er... i put volts at what it is set at now only cause i figured that should be doable and maybe a little maybe OK, but i am like the kind of person if it is stable for at least 12 hours prime leave it alone and if i want to try for higher i use the Volts i have now and try it.

I never tried over 4.3ghz as at 4.3ghz i was not stable at 1.34v's (fail within 16-18min More tweaking is needed i think) so i think it may need at least 1.36-1.38v.

Now as for temps this thing is doing great thusfar averaging like i stated 50-52C priming Orthos Blend which is now at 9 hrs 36min and still going.

I am sure anyone can HIT 4.5-4.8ghz FOR super PI benches.....

I want 24/7 stability.

EDIT:

I would not go more then 1.36-1.38v MAX on AIR., 4.2-4.3 is good enough and many should be happy with that 24/7 stable.

here is my E8600 Patch Q820A628. Got it yesterday pop it in and go.
My E8500 need 1.456v to reach 4.34Ghz. I am happy with this E8600

MAX in Orthos for me is 57C using realtemp and thats the MAX showing, but its average is 52-55C and when i surf net or open other things up it may spike to 57C MAX for like 2 secs and Orthos at times when it uses big integers will hot 57C for maybe 5 secs.

I am now at 12 hrs 43mins and going in Orthos BLEND test.

How long did you run that E8500 at that voltage as i am scared that 1.40v is a killer for any of these E series of CPU's and/or degradation.

Also what motherboard are you using and what are the rest of your Voltages .. example: NB and PPL and VTT (FSBv)

I only has E8500 for 2 weeks, but before that I has my E8400 I did run it at 1.38v for 4.2Ghz since the E8x00 series released. That CPU still run fine gave it to my brother so he can join the 4Ghz club. His E8200 can't even make 4Ghz with 1.4v.

My mainboard is P5k-E, most the setting is on auto. The
NB =1.55v (I has 4 sticks of ram)
FSB termination = 1.4v

Hmm interesting for sure as i am afraid of HIGH Fsb Termination and NB.

Since i am at 4.2ghz at 1.33v and now 13hrs 10min Orthos Blend Test and still going. I am willing to think 1.36-1.38v may allow me to do 4.3-4.4ghz, but what about this talk of degradation if to high of Fsb termination is used?

Interesting... this chip can pass IntelBurnTest (5 times) at 4.4GHz 1.344v but fails Orthos small FFT after just a few minutes.

Any suggestions there, or do I just bump vcore a bit?

The concensus = more volts as many chips i have been seeing all over the net must take at least 1.36-1.42v for 4.4ghz.

And don't run linkpack any more it is too inconsistant and can cause damage to componets.

That's funny, because my E8400 was Orthos stable and not Linpack stable, while this chip is the opposite.

Where one test shows stable and another does not .... does not mean your system is not stable .. again i state this like i have about 8 times tonight in other threads....

Linpack is inconsistant where one run you pass and another you don't, plus at 1.96v on memory linpack passes, but won't at 2.0v and for orthos 1.96v will fail in 15-18min, but 2.0v .... ===== so far 14hrs 1min Orthos Blend and still going as i type this.

Again i state 12hrs in Orthos Blend i have never had any issues with my PC, 12 more more is good.

Even if it failed right now on me ... i ain't going to cry or worry and bump volts as i know right now it is stable for all i do which includes Folding all day long.

As far as the consensus.. shouldn't SmallFFT be used? Your probably still gonna be good with Small FFT but your temps are gonna be a bit higher. My E8600 @ 1.39v 4416mhz Small FFT max temp 65c after 8+ hours. I ran my E8500 at 1.42v for 4200mhz for 6months with no issues after the initial degradation of .05v. E8500 Maxes at 72c+ during Small FFT. I think these chips are a little more durable than some people think. Using TRUE with Arctic Ceramic. I Idle at 30c current set up.

Yeah, I just find it funny that one chip was stable on Orthos 12+ hours Small FFT and Blend but failed and this chip passes Linpack but fails Orthos within 20 minutes...

Well after a long prime i decided to stop it as this is good enough for stability for 24/7. Also in picture is the IDLE right after shutting down Orthos. Also the Minimum temp in Realtemp is not right i accidently closed it and opened it during testing as the minimum should be 30C as that is the IDLE temp.

Now can i be classed as being in the 4.0ghz and Above Club? ....

I been using 1.4FSB termination on my E8400 since the CPU released, don't see any degradation. It was able to do 4Ghz at 1.288v and 4.2 at 1.368v and the CPU still able to do that now.

These E8600 seem to run hot. my hit 60-61 degrees and my is under a fusion block.

Well with my CPU like in my 16hr prime in my above post the temps showed 56C, but i have a lazor temp tool that i can get right to the base on the heatsink and litteraly hold it on it and all i can get is 42-43C at the heatsink base which is a far cry from 56C.

When i ran my Q6600 and performed the samething it was off by about 5c at base temp from realtemps reading ... so something is not right.

Even when i touched the heatsink it did not feel like 50ish degrees, it felt COOL like a 40ish temp would be.

I have realtemp at 100 TJMAX setting..... werid i tell as it is like the sensors are reporting higher then i think they should be .... if anything i would say it should be around 48C instead of 56C... i must try again with probe maybe tomorrow and see, but my lazor probe is very very accurate.

i will be happy if it under 70 degrees under orthos. under normal use there is no way that it can reach 70 degree anyway.

You have 4 cores heating up the IHS with the Q6600 vs the 2 with the E8600. That is why you have such a variance.
