I would show you, but i couldn't get it working. Sapphire 4870x2, with the ek full cover in copper with acetal top. Tried mounting it twice, but each time I would see post screen, and then nothing. 3rd led on the bottom of the card would light up red and no video. Twice went back to the stock cooler and it would work. I thought I had killed my card each time, but it came back up. Ran through some 3dmark to be sure. I'll be emailing ek tomorrow to see what's up. Maybe I got a bad card? I kept thinking that the fan needed to be plugged in, but even with that plugged in it wouldn't get past the post.
Cards been working for a couple weeks now on the stock cooler, and now too. I looked all over for what the 3rd LED is for ...on the 4870 it's the 2nd power connector unplugged, but I tried both the adaptors and the direct connect to my psu.
Strangest thing. Anyway, I wouldn't hold this against ek, my 8800gts had a ek full cover block for over a year with no problem. It's probably something I did. If anyone knows what the 3rd (of 5) LED means let me know.

How does the EK block make contact with the VRM's? My Danger Den waterblock requires thermal tape to make contact, but the GPU cores, memory chips, and PLX chip make direct contact with the block though so I used MX-2 thermal paste for those.
If I had to guess, I would say your problem is that your VRM's are not making contact with the block and are overheating.
I just got mine in the mail. Will post a few pics when I get the chance to install it.
Just to confirm, it comes with two plates for the RAM on the back.

These new GPU's need a FC for sure, Hopefully this doesnt have the warping issues the GTX 280 blocks had. I doubt they would though- The Nickel is sexy
This is EXACTLY what just happened to me with the same block and cardsomething must be wrong for two people with the same blocks having it not working. have tried attaching the fan while on water and the lights stay but with the fan at full speed (wow that thing is loud and pushes a lot of air!!)
The red lights on mine keep changing each time i switch it on.... i have tried searching for answers but nothing concrete
Oh i get no video out at all, im doing everything by the lcd poster on the mobo. looks like it back to air then...
anyone got any more opinion/ thoughts on this?
edit: here is the manual for the installation, the one you get with the block is black and white so you cant see where the '6' pads go but i have corrected this and made no difference

When installing the water block please use NONE METAL washers with shorter screws M3x6mm. This will make sure there will be no connections with the card.
This problem accured with some HD 4870 X2 cards: so card does not work with EK cooler, with stock cooler everything ok.
Using none metal washers will eliminate this problem. If you need washers please contact us and we will send them for free.

Really glad that solution was posted before I installed the card :p as that would have been hell in my new build to take out. Anyway, this is what the block looks like installed on the card. More pics tomorrow. Eddy, as per my pm I didn't get any barbs with my block?

Hey all, just wondering what temps you guys are getting with your EKs? I installed the acetal top on my 4870X2 a couple of days ago, and it works great (i.e. the card boots and plays games lol) however I have a 7 degrees temp difference between the GPU's. GPU1 is @ 40 degrees idle (about 48 load) and GPU 2 is 33 degrees Idle (about 41 degrees load). Admittedly these temps are FAR better than the 91 degrees ish load temps I was getting before.
Its just gonna but me about the difference, ive tried remounting, and tweaking all the screws in turn etc but doesnt seem to sort it out. One thing to note- i am NOT using any washers as none came included, could this be part of the problem?
