S e t h & I have decided that the time has come to upgrade our GPU block. Last competition we swopped one of our old revision blocks for a temp probe (thanks JMax & Damian), knowing that we would have to re-design for GOOC.
We have used our usual approach to surface area & mass. The block is machined from solid copper base with an aluminium tube over. Total surface area is around 200cm2, and the mass I will need to confirm a little later. The block will fit tri sli setup as well as 4870X2's.
Please consider it open source & available for all. Any comments would be welcome

This diagram was to look for obstructions on the 4870X2's, it may be useful to some?

Since the interface is on one side of the block, i dont see much point in the second row of 'surface area' holes
leaving out the second row would reduce the surface area and increase the mass...while the mass would be welcome the speed of the pulldown and loadholding ability would be reduced.
but yes 100cm2 of surface area would likely be enough and one can really never have too much mass.
we just went with 200 as we know it will be enough for DI and LN2 and considering the holes are so deep we'd rather be safe than sorry
an aluminium ES version has been built and tested perfect on DI.
if i had to decide which set of holes to leave out i'd remove the ones closer to the face as i find cold mass close to the core more important when using ln2.
the cold spreads through the copper very quickly and a more than half the time the block has eaten the ln2 and is running dry with just the mass soaking the heatload.
Looking good, TraX!!
Good Luck guys!!![]()
Got my tickets, I'll be landing in Taipei on Wednesday, 11:50. Looking forward to it, but I'm curious what'll happen during my two days in Bangkok prior to the event, doesn't look too tempting.
I KNOW MASSMAN DISLIKES YOU.
Competition ranking: Better than the danes in everything I've ever entered.Originally Posted by saaya

BTW for anyone that didnt know yet, the SuperPI test will be 1M, which to me is a bit rediculous given the recent discussions about lucky CPU's in benching competitions. At least run a test that uses some memory tweaking/speed!
I have the same flight as Mean Machine, actually the two days in Bangkok is perfect to reduce jetlag so it's ok. Looking forward to meeting many of you (some of you again).
