    MX-2.
    Run a line splitting the chip in half in the direction of the little divot on each side of the green plastic board part (as if connecting the divots but in the middle).

    Oh I have read all of this thread, and the p5e3 premium thread. I was also an addict before I came here, but more of a lurker then a poster.

    The thing is, I have tried all the peoples settings here, and I still can't get anything stable. This is what I need help with, and the main reason I started posting.

    I have had good luck with mx-2. Thanks for the replies guys. I reseated the heatsinks on my board and when I reseated the heatsink on my cpu I used a little too much. I lapped the processor and heatsink so I have to use a drop or two. I usually put a drop or two and spread it thinly with a credit card (seems to work well).

    Don't have a p5e3 but in general:

    Disable eist, virtualization, spectrum, etc.

    Set mch to 1.35 or 1.4v.

    Try vcore of 1.35 AFTER vdroop (i.e. cpu-z vcore under load).

    If there is a voltage dampener option in bios, use it.

    Lock pci-e to 100.

    Make sure that your RAM can do do 450 stable at 1:1 first b4 overclocking the ram or trying a higher ram:cpu ratio(try 8 x 450 first)

    Check with realtemp that your load temps don't exceed 60c.

    Good luck.

    hiredgoon... if you have tried every possible combo on your board and still not stable
    then like it or not you have a dud chip... dud mobo.. funky ram.... or your parts dont like to play togather it happens

    small shop here and have seen the wierdest things a setup wouldnt work change out mobo and all is fine... use that same mobo in another build ( all different parts ) and again all is fine !

    it happens probbly a weak trace on mobo or something silly like that

    good luck

    Hi guys, I hope this is the right thread.

    Just got a E8400 E0 (Batch Q820A726) and a Gigabyte EP45-DS4P

    http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=409569

    SuperPI 1M = 10.3s

    16609 3dmarks with a 9800GX2

    After a lot of GTLref fine tuning I managed to get 500MHz FSB stable on low volts:

    vcore = 1,425v on BIOS (1,360v full)
    vtt = 1,32v
    vnb = 1,36v
    GTLref1 = 0,79v (about 67%)
    GTLref2 = 0,80v (also about 67%)
    NBref = 0,67v (about 60%)

    CPU = 60ºC full

    Right thread
    15 minutes isn't exactly rock stable for sure though - my northbridge would cause a crash at 18 minutes until i got active NB cooling.
    Great work but you need probably 1 hr to make the list

    Here's my 8400 C0 in it's 24/7 crunching groove (Q815A182). Pretty cheap setup overall. P35-DS3L, 2x2gb patriot, asus eah3870, sunbeam core contact/panaflo 114cfm, pcp&c 610. Pretty much flies through the work units. Very stable, error free machine. I don't think I'll be buying any more of the sunbeam heatsinks. It comes with a decent fan controller but the stock fan is pretty weak and the mounting system is really a pain. If I buy any more cheap hsf it'll probably be xigmatek, either s1283 or s1284. Not a whole lot of difference between those two as far as I can tell.

    Any Temp Showing software (RealTemp,CoreTemp,...) displays a 5-7°C difference between cores of my CPU.
    First When I assembled on my system, there where 3-4°C difference,
    Later in 2-3 Weeks I got 7-8°C difference (measured with RealTemp 2.7 and while I replaced the Default Silicon Patch with new Silver Silicon Grease)
    and Now I got 4-5°C difference between the cores (using RealTemp 2.75Beta)

    in Idle Mode(2267MHz);
    SpeedStep and C1E and C2 State Enabled I got: Core0/Core1=40°C/45°C @950rpm CPU Fan Speed

    I want to know why are these differences?

    Ok thanks guys, I will try out some more stuff. Would you RMA the cpu first or the MOBO? CPU being bought locally at a store, vs MOBO being an online purchase. God I hate to RMA.

    I think the best OC I had was 8x500, but that failed the stress test pretty fast. While that could boot and run for a bit, 8x450 was not stable LOL!

    OH BOY, the last day to return the CPU is tomorrow, I got to think quick, shal I do it ?

    is those temps under load? if not i see why your not impressed with that cooler.
    still a nice OC on that DS3L i can only get 4.1ghz stable on my P35-DS3R

    my new E8400 is out for delivery. i should have it this afternoon. hopen its a E0.
    i know its early for the E0 steppings but is there any known batch # that is better than another?

    God I hate RMA.
    if the CPU is local do it first. wont take as long. look for the E0 stepping when getting the new one,take it back replace it and try your other stuff with it then. if still the same results send out the mobo.

    are you sure your mem is compatible with your board? i had some crucial ballistix 1066(singlesided) that was junk and not compatable with my GA-P35-DS3R. it wouldnt let me do anything. crucial sent me some doublesided 16chip ddr2 800 and im rockin with them..

    Thank you guys.
    I updated the post with the processor batch.

    I know 15min prime isn't garantee that it is stable (in fact thread 1 stopped after 30 mins).
    I know it isn't heat problems, the volts are sweet low and I have a lot of fans cooling the silent pipe (both the VRM and NB sides).

    I'm still tuning the system, I raised the volts one tad to run 3DMark. Looks stable now

    Next, tune the memory (these GSkill PI run up to 1200 on 2,15v).
    And then prepare for ludicrous speed FSB

    cincyrob, yeah load temps but I didn't get those temps until I put the 114cfm panaflo on. That alone would be ok because I normally like to use a big fan but man, the mount is really a pain. When I first saw the sunbeam core contact freezer it really grabbed my interest as a cheap TRUE alternative partly because of the unique mounting but after trying it I really dislike the mount system. It cools great but I'm not sure it's worth the hassle. If I ever swap it to another board I'll grab a bolt-thru kit and make it work.

    Loonym: I'm using a Xigmatek HDT on a DS3L and it covers up to 4.5ghz ok on an E0 e8500 (see above posts).
    However, the DS3L will fail Prime or Orthos after 18min because the NB fails due to heat for anything over 4.3ghz..
    I put on old DFI lanparty NB fan over the DS3L NB with doublesided tape and it's stable for me now .

    Ive gotten better temps with mx-2 (nothing huge) but I only tried AC5 once or twice and yes I did let it break in. The big difference is that mx-2 is not electriclly conductive and there is no breakin period. That makes it great for mainboards and graphics cards.

    ok guys. i got the new CPU in. my temps are great compared to the old CPU. its not the E0 stepping but im happy.

    i put it in fired it up to make sure its running then took it to 3.6ghz. running OCCT now. all's well so far.
    i know you want me to take it to 4+ghz..lol i will in a couple days dont wanna toast it before i get to use it any..lol
    here is some shots of everest,occt,cpuz.oh yea i have all settings at auto. so i havent done anything to it to get it to run 3.6ghz...

    trust me now that i dont have the temps to worry about 4+ghz is on the way. hopefully i can run every day at 4.0ghz thats truely my goal.

    under load here

    at idle.

    yes core 0 has a stuck sensor when idleing.
    so should i rely on core 1 when idleing? can i fix a stuck sensor? or should i RMA this one casue of that and try for a E0???lmao

    Maybe its me but around 60c seems hot to me. My E4400 @ 3.4GHz 1.55v has a load temp the same as your E8400 :p I would of thought your CPU would load around 50c tops with that vcore.
