just some testing on some older Supertalent 2x1gb Sticks " D9GTR "

    NB = 1.5v
    Ram = 2.1v

    927mhz 7-6-5-15 T1

    960mhz 7-6-5-15 T1
I had to lower TRFC 60 and PL9 to get this stable with 2.2v also.
    NB @ 1.5v

Would it be worth using TIM instead of the standard thermal pads underneath the heatsinks ? I've done the northbridge/southbridge etc, but was worried that the gap was too big for just thermal grease underneath the two heatsinks that currently have thermal pads.

Yes, i think it does, but only if you remove the entire heatpipe construction.

    If not F3-12800CL7D-4GBHZ then what?

I noticed that most are benching the *@#$ out of this board (which is a good thing). I am attempting to set up a gaming machine and think my 4GB G.Skills are holding me back.

Are there any 4GB sticks that work well with this board?

Mike, thanks for sharing the information below. You seem to be making some progress. I am going to try playing with the DRam Clock Skew Delay as you did below to see if I can find some rock solid stability.

Have you made any more progress?

Its rock stable at stock 1600mhz 7-7-7-18, so ive been running 10x400=4ghz with just 1.3v on my CPU prime stable and no probs. However, i would like to get around 445x9 and pump up the mem speed a bit. Been trying to get this stable at stock mem timings which is a little tricky, but looks like im getting somwhere!

Its still running now, gonna leave it another few hrs i think to make sure, but looking hopefull. Settings were:

    vdimm: 2.08v
    NB:1.58v
    Primary timings: 7-7-7-18
    Command Rate 2N
Sub timings: All auto, with the exception of...
    Perf Lvl: 8
    Dram clock Skew: delay 150ps

As you can see from the screenshot, I dropped the multi, but hopefully I will get vcore etc around similar voltages to what I had previously . Really loving this board now im on water, the NB, even with higher voltages doesnt go much above 40degrees when stress testing!

Performance level is a bit high for my liking (would have prefered 7) so once ive finished testing with these timings, I will try adjusting phase pull in's to get some extra performance, as well as trying higher timings with lower perf. lvl and see what gives the best result.

BikeCop's Design using all EK waterblocks

Will let you know by Friday. I'm replicating BikeCop's wblock layout on the board, but with EK wblocks throughout, with the exception of a Dtek Fuzion CPU block. Since I'll be running 4-way 4870 X2 SLI (i.e., two cards), I cannot watercool the SB. I'm using a low profile EnzoTech copper block/fan assembly on the SB.

Thanx a lot eternal All these little chips next to NB and SB need also to be cooled? I dont want t ruin the look of the board with little HS. If i remove the entire heatpipe construction can i just install the 2x mosfet coolers?

Have a look at THIS post and posts after that.

However the short answer is yes, it is not absolutely necessary to cool the northbridge VRM area.

Most of the questions asked about the Rampage Extreme have been asked one time or another in this thread, so a quick skim through will bring you up to date and provide you with lots of useful information on this motherboard.

I've tried that also, i've been 3 days trying everything i even activate the XMP function, but it gave a bsod. I don't know what ICS this mems have, i couldn't take the heatspreader out.
Wednesday i will get a 2x2gb OCZ 2000 to test, it couldn't be worse.

You've already read earlier that MikeMK had the same problem with the same mems. It seems that it has solved cooling the NB. I suppose he will correct me if I´m wrong

Its watercooled full load 56º, and the coldboots have nothing with temps, has i said even at default without OC i couldn't boot, it was a random situation.
The problem is the same mems have diferent chips, i will not try to take the heatspreader out, i will take a chance with the OCZ.
    Thanks anyway

But i already have a pair of OCZ Reaper 14400 2x2GB and it´s a hell in the RE. I have post a question about the replacement by Titanium or Platinum series in the OCZ forum and I just receive this mail from OCZ support:
Reaper, Titanium, etc in the same speed bin are pretty much the same modules. If you get other 1800 MHz modules, then there will not be much difference between them.
Im very tired with this subject. Seems that only we can buy safe 2x1GB kits. I don´t want only to bencher! I need work with many data in a x64 OS...

this is the same thing i have with my D9GTR based 2x1GB G.Skill HZs. if you pull one stick, boot with one then go into the BIOS and save& exit then go back into the BIOS and shut the rig off. installing the second stick again and it should work.

interestingly enough, i have had no issues with my G-Skill F3-12800CL7D-2x2GBPI. they clock great up to 900MHz but seem to hit a bit of a wall at 920MHz

this board is definitely not fun with some kits of memory but it seems so bloody random. this is all with 0403.
i don't quote in my signature, but best WR ever...

    Just like me.
I've ordered the PC16000 Platinum, its time for Asus to do something, this mobo only have the release bios in Asus site.
I never used to buy new mobos from Asus, usualy i wait until they became mature with bios, but this is x48, it's in the market for some time, i don't get why this motherboard has to much issues with ram.

Sometimes i could boot fine without a problem, but sometimes don't, even at default no OC, the LCD poster don't pass from MemDet.
If i do a ClearCmos i could boot with the 2 sticks, i could change everything or leave it at default, the problem is with reboots, sometimes couldn't reboot or even start without oc or with, even tried the XMP, but gave me bsod.
I guess i have diferent IC's from you in GSkill PI TT, i have tried the 3 Bios available.

I have returned to post in the OCZ forum. More questions, if i have good answers, i post here for everyone. ATM, only can think of risking buying the famous 2x2GB kit Gskill or risking buying the TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHXIN kit or the TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX, from Corsair. I can not think of anything else...

You may not be pleased with the 2x2GB kit of G.Skills. At STOCK setting they work pretty consistently. It's hit or miss at their rated DDR3 1600, 7-7-7-18 1.9v.

It don't believe its a shortcoming of the modules themselves as they were running at the timings mentioned above without fail on my790i board. They also scaled well as you loosened the timings at lesser voltages.

Right now I believe anything with Samsung IC's may be the way to go if you are looking for 2x2GB modules.

It is clear that so far the Bios have a serious problem with mem power, specially for 2x2GB sets. No matter what i set in Bios above 1.8v, the board continue sending 1.8v to mems. It´s impossible to send to the Reapers his default voltage, 1.9v. Samsung IC´s optimized? Surely, but is a very buggy optimization so far.
The TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX is 415+ € in my country. Wow...
