    Oh....I see.

Well, in that case I am really impressed with this board and its lack of droop.

What do you think about the new official bios 2008/07/25?
I have to push more voltage on everything and have problem to hit 440fsb+. With 2007/03/20 i could do 500fsb easy with out GTL settings!?
And whats the new settings under "GTL"?

Then go back to the 03/20 BIOS. Not sure why most everyone thinks latest and greatest necessarily go together.

Unfortunately with my setup I am not stable again with 8GB of memory installed. Not sure wether to up the Vtt or back of the FSB some more. I lowered the memory speeds (not timings) by using the slowest divider 400/something but its still not stable with 8GB.

I found that 320 bios worked better with my E8400 than 725 but with my E8600 it seems better.

I concour the 320 bios works great for me and my E8400. No reason to switch.

what fsb on average can I expect on this board on air with a 45nm quad core?

People are saying that the digital pwm is good for quad cores, but my multiplier is maxed at 8 with my Q9450 so I need some FSB out of it as well.

most people seem to be recommending P45 chipset for Quads over this board. I think it will also depend on how much memory your using and the CPU itself. most don't seem to get over 450 FSB though, I can't seem to quite get 425 (with 8GB) but it seems fine with 4GB (IntelBurnTested 20 runs). Then Again I seem to be prime stable I just can't pass 100 runs of IntelBurnTest.... My chip may be a bit worse than most peoples though.

I'm thinking about selling this CPU and switching to a dual core....I would actualy get a little money and likely more performance as well.

Thanks. That helps a lot. Although I need good ram overclocking capability for my 4x1GB Micron D9Gs , I can't sacrifice cpu overclock for it. My cpu was able to prime at 475*8 on a P35 board.

    Really impressive being on air!!
    what was the ambient temperature?
is that the new stepping for the 8600?

I do not want to buy another processor before Nehalem.
If we are realistic and talk about 4.5GHz on a dual core, would that beat 3.8Ghz quad core on gaming performance?

what would be the graphics performance difference between the p45's new PCIe 2.0 and your p35's PCIe? (I will be using a 4870x2)

Even though you did 550 here and 500 with 4x1 memory, can't the fsb limit of a motherboard be totally different with a quad core?
It probably should not be the processor to be blamed everytime.

    a quad will limit fsb
4.6ghz is easy with new stepping 1.38v
i doubt a quad is even close games dont need no quad in my opinion
anything below 500fsb is totaly useless to me so ...

quads are good for 3dmark scores ,thats about it. lol
i get the same load times with games, photoshop cs3, adobe premier etc with both my x6800 and xeon x3660 and q6600 . theres really no difference , i use vista sidebar gadget that shows ur core usage at any given time .and ive never seen all four cores run unless on occt etc. its always one core and maybe two at the most.
i keep reading that x48 boards clock better with c2d . that was my experience with this board also.

So shoudl I sell this MB as well? What is the best P45 board that I can liquid cool, everything I see has heatpipes all over the place

Im considering selling this MB and CPU and upgrading from a quad to a dual core at about $100 loss. Other option is to sell the MB ($100 loss I guess?) and trade my Q9450 for a Q6600 and pickup a new MB.

I thought they fixed it no?

Wasting money would be keeping the board since switching them out requires formatting anyways. I still have celleron 300a and Pentium 2's 3's athalong XP's in the closet lol

BTW I fail IntelBurnTest in less than 1/2 hour, but I have been priming for 8 hours without a single hiccup. I still dont consider the PC stable. If I can't pass IntelBurnTest, dman this program for being sooooo good, I would have been happy by passing prime for 24 hours otherwise...I was just running prime to see if I could find a core failing. Perhpas its memory timings or I need more voltage (rated for 1.8-1.9v)? Any recommendations on what I should set them to? The default timings are 5-5-5-15

There's a fix for a few of the X48/X38 boards, but not the X48-TR2 yet. I tried to flash the BIOS to the 'Fixed' UT BIOS, but it didn't work. So, I'm pretty much screwed until DFI gets this fixed.

    Rather frustrating...

There's a fix for a few of the X48/X38 boards, but not the X48-TR2 yet. I tried to flash the BIOS to the 'Fixed' UT BIOS, but it didn't work. So, I'm pretty much screwed until DFI gets this fixed.

    Rather frustrating...
You tried flashing from USB? I'm running a UT bios on my LT board. It would not let me flash from inside windows.

Yeah. I mean, I got the UT BIOS, but it didn't fix the 4870X2 issue.

Huh? I'm flashing it through a USB drive. I've flashed it to the UT X48 BIOS, but it didn't fix the X2 issue.
