Does flashing to the asus bios actually LOWER the voltage? Because I can't clock as high now by a few mhz. I'm going to pencil mod soon.

ya, flashing my asus bios lowerd my voltages. I guess it's fine though as it unlocked higher clocks.

Yo, OP, do you have an asus bios that DOESN'T lower stock voltages? Cause I need one.

This BIOS has correct checksum (works in beta 8.8) and upperlimit is set to 720mhz instead of 700.
The BIOS version is also newer than all the others i've seen

    http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/2...12.080807.html

Edit it in RBE 1.3 and set 1.158v (max) on 3d, and you're in good shape. Also make sure you update the fan-settings, as the current ones in this version are bugged (stays at 30%).

If anyone has any BIOS'es with a higher upper limit and correct checksum, please let me know.

Leonarderman - do you have a visiontek lightly overclocked hd4850 bios?

Are these bios preconfigured with higher fan settings too for a lower idle and load?

    Thanks.

Yes, you can use sapphire/Asus's HD4850 Bios because they're the same. You can find your stock Bios below. Let's modify it with RBE1.13

Can you change the core limit a bit higher to say... 1100 or so?

Changing the core limit higher 1100MHz is easy but I think it's not needed. Before I used Hex Editor to change Core/mem upper limit, but now You can use RBE 1.13 to change it. If you want a higher Core limit, think You should do it with RBE 1.13! Well done!

Thanks leonarderman for the visiontek bios - but quick question - why is it 675/1050 while the other "lightly clocked" versions are 700/1100?

Is it that the visiontek can't handle it? I bought a preflashed visiontek 4850 off of ebay for a decent price (used) set at 725/1100 but under 3dmark06 and Vantage appears unstable since it pauses/jumps. Do you think 700/1100 would be ok?

Someone sent to me a problem with Bios Sapphire Lightly Overclocked Core 700/1100MHz. I have tested with my card and didn't see any problem. But They say it make their card unstable! So I think 675/1050Mhz are enough to use. You can Overclock higher with CCC + AMD GPU Tool.

Please note: combining CCC + AMD GPU Tool to be best Performance of Overclocking!

I was at around 1.17v with this bios in 3D before, after VPU recover + 500Mhz 2D switch, it dropped down to 1.15v.

Always delete the CCC profile files after a VPU recovery!!!

    Stupid ATi drivers
Hey, this happened to me yesterday! I was playing Space Siege with 730/1100Mhz just fine, then I went to play some other game (I think it was GRID...) and bang! VPU recovery error and tray notification!
After that, I couldn't play any other game (even Space Siege which was runnning fine) with that OC... I had to go back to 700 core or something like that. The 2D clocks also changed from 160/500 to 160/750 which was odd...

Then I remembered this thread and saw your post. I went and delete the profiles folder and I have everything ok again.
Is there any way to go around and prevent this protection from kicking in? I don't want to use a fixed BIOS (been there).

Actually RBE 1.13 doesn't allow you to change the limits according to the creator of RBE. He said 1.13 will be the shortest lived version. He will have a 1.14 out very soon.

    Okidoki

Anyone knows if the new version will let us change ONLY the UPPER LIMIT GPU without modifying the actual core frequency? So we can OC with CCC safely...

Also, can anyone provide me with a reference Sapphire BIOS with JUST the core upper limit raised to 800 that can work with Cat. 8.8?

    Thanks in advance

BTW, I swapped my cards stock cooler for this:

Do you guys think it will let me achieve higher OC with a slight pencil mod?

    RBE v1.14 is available now!

    Here are the new things:

    v1.14
    - Fixed bug with method one overdrive hack not working. Should run fine now.
    - Added fan control for 4870 X2. Completely new controller chip, was a big pain in the ass to code... :-/
    - Made spin up fix, powerplay functionality and voltage decrease in the one-click update for 4xx0 cards seperately selectable.
    - Fixed WinFlash check sum correction bug.
    - Added and fixed a lot of small things. Too many and too minor to mention all... :-)

Please tell me your opinion about everything!

Thanks BAGZZlash for the 1.14 quite fast
Why is the HD 4850 limited to only 720 Mhz (with the method 1-Hash)...at least 750Mhz or so would have been nice

honestly, it should have been 740mhz, that way ati could have protected the 4870's market but please customers, my guess is the stock cooler couldn't handle above 700mhz very well and then they'd be replacing a lot of parts due to their CCC ocing policy
