    Thanks Eternal Fantasy

Will have some time this evening when I get home - great settings and at 1T command rate too !. I am really begining to think that my 4x1Gb sticks are holding me back. Looking into what 2x2Gb memory kit to buy in the UK that will hit 2000Hz. Need to check the manual to see if the white or blue sockets are preferred when using 2 sticks.

Some background history of my QX9650...

Brought it last year when it was first avaliable in the UK, and it's been in a Striker II Extreme, Maximus Extreme, Maximus Formula, BlockOps, EVGA 790i, and now finally in the Rampage Extreme.

The highest FSB I was able to get in these motherboards:
    Maximus Extreme - 458
    Maximus Formula - 456
    BlackOps - 440
    EVGA 790i - 425
Striker II Extreme - no idea, system file corrupted whenever overclocked

Now I thought the pinnicle of my 9650's FSB should be around 460, which I thought was OK ish.

    Then came the Rampage Extreme.

As per my previous post, RE handled 450FSB without problem.
Then I tried stright to 470Mhz for laughs:

    Hmm intresting I thought.

    then 480Mhz

pretty much sums up what I had in mind.

But what the hell, might as well try 490Mhz....

And all voltage are within safe limits for watercooling, maybe even on air, and I hadn't even touched the skew and GTL settings etc

I can confidently say, even at this early point that it has to be the best motherboard I have ever used (all my mobos in sig), in it's ease of overclocking, cooling, and stability. Well done ASUS!!

    More results to follow!

First I will try and push all my hardware to the limits and see how far they'll go, then an hour or two of ORTHOS blend and I'm happy for my 24/7 settings. I don't have any mission critical tasks to perform on my PC, and 2 hours of priming will be more then enough to ensure stable gaming. Also it's frigin hot here in london and I see no reason to have a 500W heater on full power for days to create a sauna out of my room...

But please, post back on how you get on with the prime marathon.

@eternal_fantasy - Nice clocks! Good to know that the Rampage is so much better than the eVGA 790i. I will be upgrading as soon as this board becomes available on this side of the pond.

Eternal - WOW! Great results... now im seriously looking forward to getting this board. My QX9650 will do 445FSB on the S2E at 1.35v vcore so im really looking forward to seeing what it can do on the RE. Roll on tomorrow!!!

One quick question - u mention about the 'sandwich' cooling solution with the fusion block. Do u think its actually worth using this then? Do u know what your temps were with the passive solution? Just wondering if its worth the effort. I take it you cant watercool the NB with a different block without replacing all the cooling for the SB/PWM's etc.

Oh, and yeah... its way too hot in London atm.. my PC room is roasting even when im just surfing the net lol!

I went stright to water cooling when I got my board, so no idea how the air cooling will be, but I can't imagine how watercooling will be worse off compared to air. They both attach to the same copper plate. I have also thought of using my own waterblocks, but that means you need to replace the mosfet of the CPU area and the NB (I guess you can stick some ramsinks on those) and the SB... maybe EK will release a block that cools the NB and its mosfets?

I don't want to argue about how you define a 24/7 stable OC and the FSB you reached is indeed great. However, these FSB are not exceptional with other motherboards (I know for sure on the WS Evolution) and a QX9650 especially with the 4/5 memory divider. Please don't get me wrong but if the settings are only stable to check email and post a SS what's the use (I know it is preliminary tests). As mentioned my point is, it puts a lot more stress on the MB (and naturally the memory) to use the 1:2 memory divider. Therefore to me a FSB of 450+ is only really impressive with memory running DDR 1800 (and preferably 2x2 GB of memory). For instance my MB can prime for 10-20 h at 9x445 but will crap out within minutes in a game. At 426x9.5 I can Prime for 70 h (even I know that is excessive) and games run perfect. If I use the 4/5 memory divider and FSB around 450 games are fine but performance sucks. I would love to see the RE handle FSB 450+ with 2x2GB memory 1:2.
I really don't mean to be a party pooper and I sincerely appreciate your tests with your QX9650, but I am not so excited before I have seen som Orthos/OCCT/Prime/game stability with memory running synced

BTW I use my PC for scientific work sometimes so I require another level of stability.

Believe it or not, I'm not an Asus employee, and am not trying to impress or showoff what I brought in an attempt to "impress" you into buying the board. To be honest I really couldn't care less. However what I CAN and are happy to do is to try and answer reasonable questions, and try reasonable settings on the board. What I will not do is put my newly installed rig out of commission (try gaming while priming) for a day, sucking juice out of my wall socket, in an attempt to impress a guy over the internet, so he can make up his mind, and be confident about his purchase. As I said before, what you do with your own system is your business, and I will be helpful if the request is resonable. When was the last time you saw an online review site show you a screenshot of a 24H+ primed stable overclocked system? If they won't do it even when they get paied, I as hell won't.

FYI my system is running fine 470x8.5 1:2 1880Mhz mem, played TF2 for 3 hours absolutely fine.

No hard feelings btw, its just how I do things... maybe you can get one of the others that has the board to test it for you.

Hay ladies and gentleman of this thread, please make your way to 3oh6's "Live MB OC Report :: ASUS Rampage Extreme", so we can keep all our info together for the Rampage Extreme motherboard.

Will be a huge asset for us with such knowledgeable guy as 3oh6, and the Intel page seems very much more alive then the review page

    Anyway HEAD OVER THERE NOW!!!!

All follow up posts will be on that thread---

This board is available at Newegg now for an astounding $400! To all the Evolution users that have this as well - is it worth getting this if you have the Evolution already? If your looking to get one of them, is it worth the extra money to get the Rampage Extreme??

    SOS:
I have removed the entire Asus heatsink for use Artic Silver and I have off many little washers, which have the heatsink in each screw hole (very littles and blacks) But now i count washers and i have one more than holes free! Does anyone know what hole should have two washers instead of one?
    Thanks!

This heatsink sucks. I had the Maximus II Formula with only the back washers trick and i had 43º in NB. Now with my Rampage, washers trick, AS and this heatsink i have 47º.
