Just brickd my board
!!!!!!!!
With the socket slip or with a bios?
Don't worry dude, it's a perfect excuse to go for a Maximus Formula II with that 45nm!![]()
Oh I was rushing a cpu swap and caught the socket pins with a coffee filter and now I dont think she will boot.
I have the board out and the pins straight now to test
MF Extreme is looking sweet tho
good luck

Thanks guys but I guess luck is not with me, looks like I shorted something.
All the little led lights are showing green, yellow, and red all at the same time.
LCD Poster is showing CPU INIT and reset or power buttons do not work.
Called Asus and have my RMA so I'll ship it out tomorrow.
Tried to get cross shipping but she told me it was not available on SE board.
Now all I have is a lappy till I get a new board, and to make matters worse I now have to decide what boad to get to replace my MF SE.
Replace it why? If ASUS is going to replace it with another MF. You told them that you messed up the pins and there still going to warranty it?

Shower?? how did that happen
Now why would I tell them that?
All Asus needs to know is it wont post, but my point in a replacement is I dont want to wait a month for a new mobo, So if I grab a new board now I'm down for a few days and sell the MF when it comes in.
If I wait I'm down for about a month or so. I tried to get a cross ship but they wont on the SE so you know they dont have stock. So I'm stuck using my laptop or I suppose I could grab my son's A8N SLI Deluxe and pound the FX-60 but where would the fun in that be?
yes it will work very well

Unless you have a unique board or Q9450, the maximus formula is not a good match for that chip. That is if your after more than 3400MHz prime stable. My board topped out @ 435 bootable. Same chip benchmarks @ 495FSB in a different board. I have a maximus II on the way now. This board is a dream for a QX9650. I bench mine @ 410 x 11 PL5![]()

Probably a little late for this but I havent read these forums since about post 239... I see some people having a hard time removing thier NB/SB there is a real real easy simple method.
Grab yourself a chair prop your board up on it surround the northbridge with a towel and turn a can of canned air upside down and spray back and forth for about 45 seconds. see pic.
By turboz22l, shot with DMC-FX3 at 2008-08-18
Then use the blue memory slot for leverage to pop it off easily
By turboz22l, shot with DMC-FX3 at 2008-08-18
Make sure the copper peice is release from the southbrige by just pulling up and bending it a bit
By turboz22l, shot with DMC-FX3 at 2008-08-18
Wipe condensation off the back of the board
By turboz22l, shot with DMC-FX3 at 2008-08-18
Do the same thing for the southbridge chip and pop it off if you want to remove it.

Hope this helps some...

You can do the same with a hair dryer, just make sure you have gloves on. Push out the push pins and screws then use the hair dryer to heat up the heatsink, once it gets hot it will slide right off without having to use a screw driver or any other tools. Did this with my Blitz and so have many other people on this forum.

With 45nm Quads, the Maximus Formula is best with a QX chip with unlocked multiplier. The x38 chipsets struggle to reach 450FSB with 45nm's. Mine won't do it even with my QX9650.The few that have had success don't quite mention the extreme voltages used to achieve it. My Maximus is used for benching with the QX9650 410 X 11 DDR2-1233 PL5. This article explains things best as far as memory bandwith & performance is concerned.

I can confirm this, my Q9550 wont boot past 425.
This is the first chip that my Maximus struggles with. Bios revisions do not help.
Dual cores clock well I have had a 8400 to 525 and 475 for my 8600.
I have been contemplating the QX, but I just cant spend the money as football season is almost upon us and I need to support my gambling habit.
I disagree about the 45nm, everyone always says it's about the chip, but my E8400 got up to 485 pretty easily. 475 is my goal on the 9450, I'm pretty confident it can be done. My 8G Gskillz appear to have no issue running @ 1080 (possibly more, but I'm a chicken), now just finding the right PL/skew/vfsbt values.
Zucker, do you have your 9450 settings handy for your adventures?

Nope, regular hair dryer, just let the heatsink get hot and then it will slide off. The cold method works too, I just don't like using screw drivers to wedge off the heatsink from the chip.
There are some nice step by step instructions on this thread for removing the stock heatsinks using both methods.

I have had a 8400 which did 489x9 24/7, I also bought a Q9550 and it wont post above 425 on any multi. So to further my habit for high clocks I bought a E8600 it will post at 500x10 and bench ( altho not stable)
The Nemisis is very correct on quad core 45nm chips and the Maximus.
Zucker2k got his high 9450 clocks using a real Rampage not a hack'd Maximus.
And to add insult to injury my 3870X2 came today from Asus rma and I just sent the board in for rma
Side note I will have a MF SE for sale in a few weeks![]()

Asus Rampage III Extreme i7 970@ 4.26
g-skill ripjaw 12g kit@1855 2 gtx580 sli
275T samsung lcd, pci Express X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty
IMO P45 or X48
The P45 seems to get better clocks, I'm about to pull the trigger on a MaximusII. Just looking at the Rampage Extreme on the egg b4 I do.
DDR3 is looking nice but not sure if its worth the hassle of selling my Dominators and GSkill ram to off set the coast of going to DDR3.
I can get the maximus2 @ my local store.............. just want to be able to hit the 450fsb
GRNFINGER should i try the 0408 beta bios ?
