    Hi,

I am using a single 8800GT-512, a Leadtek reference card. Occasionally my card doesn't get initialized and the system starts, but a simple reset gets this straightened out again. I cannot blame that specifically on the board, the conversion OR the card's modified BIOS (GPU:800, RAM 1900, shader: 1700) tho...it just sounds similar. I hope this helps any...

I've tried 2 MSI 8800GTS cards and 1 Evga 9800GX2. None produce a video signal on my board yet the computer boots. If I wait long enough and enter my PW, I hear the Vista music as it goes to the desktop with a black screen. I put the ATI 1950 back in and no video problem. I took the 2 8800GTS cards and put them in other rigs. 1 an old DFI 965 and the other in a P5Q. Those cards work perfectly on those boards. I haven't tried the 9800GX2 on another board yet because it means breaking down the Maximus Rampage and stealing the power supply or buying another power supply capable of running 2 GX2s and I'm leaning towards the latter.

Any ideas as to why my board hates Nvidia? Anyone else had the problem?

I know it sounds wacky, but that is my guess.

With no video, just take the sound card out and see if it fixes anything.
Thanks Talonman. I pulled it but no joy. If I'm not even showing a post screen, drivers haven't even had a chance to load so I wasn't expecting that to work. Desperate times. Desperate measures.

I wish it were that simple. It doesn't matter how many times I reset or clear cmos. Nvidia= black screen. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on this. My guesses were my DVI KVM. Plugging the monitor in directly equaled black screen too. Or my Armor case just doesn't let Nvidia cards sit right in the slot. I have too much time in cable management and a dual-rad water loop to tear it apart for experimentation. This rig will keep ATI and MY P5K Deluxe and P5Q rigs will get the Nvidia cards.

I've followed the Maximus Formula and Maximus Rampage threads from the beginning. I'm the only one I've read about with this problem. It never hurts to ask though.

What is the typical max FSB achieved with this board with a dual core wolfdale and then after conversion to rampage formula?

is there a significant gain in FSB?

    436/8*9=490 MHz
    what!??

are you saying one setting you use is 436 FSB 8x cpu multi
and another seting you use is 490mhz fsb and 9x cpu multi ?

if not then i do not understand where your getting those numbers.

the FSB is what it is,, its not times or divided by anything else...

400mhz FSB is 400MHz whether you use a 6x multi or a 10x multi. all the multi does is simply increase your default cpu speed.
cpu multi also doesnt change your ram speed
OR are you saying your ram is 490mhz ???

    thus 436x8 = 3488
    436x9 = 3924

    490x8 = 3920
490x9 = 4410 - and you are not doing that with this board unless its a dual core. you wont do 490 x 9 on a quad with this board. not on air or water atleast.

    WOOHOO!!!
1207 makes the mobo see my Q9650 (ES) properly along with temps properly (in the bios) and no more stupid unsupported cpu warning everytime the system boots!!

now i have to start playing with voltages be this E0 cpu should be doing a better overclock than 3.825 @ 1.28v

    http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=404154

and the best part!! i can now adjust my cpu multi!!!!!! time to get to FSB testing!
i also can FINALLY stress out this OZC Reaper 9200 stuff which is just absolutely wicked ram. 1133mhz 2.0v ?? i mena come on thats crazy 5-5-5-12

NB Core Clocks on Intel chipsets

    Hi,
I sort of saw that coming. has noone here had a P5B Series board before?

You should read the article on FSB straps and NB clocks on the P965 chipsets. I don't have hard evidence so far that the X38 is behaving the same, but the intel chipsets are all VERY similar. They just evolve bit by bit but don't ditch their whole architecture. The northbridge clock on P965 chips is calculated the following way:

NB core clock = (CPU max multiplier / CPU current multiplier) * FSB clock

ex. if you are running a E6600 at 3.6 GHz, you have the option to use 400*9 or 450*8.

The NB however runs at either 506 MHz (9/8)*450 or in the latter case at (9/9)*400.

This is also the reason why you should disable speedstep whenever you are overclocking. The further the multiplier goes down, the more the NB cklock goes up with the FSB clock remaining constant. At some point the voltage for the NB core gets insufficient and the computer crashes.

There was a good article on xtremesystems, on FSB straps on the ASUS P5B Deluxe board. Trying to hunt it up and add the URL to the posting as soon as I find it.

    --- Edit! ---

    Here is the article:

I would also like to know.. but from what ive seen i think there is a gain in fsb and some memory settings.

So I have been reading for awhile and I have searched the thread, but I cannot find what I am looking for, even under the first page sticky.

1 - What does flashing your Maximus bios to a Rampage bios get you?

2 - It looks like if I stick with the Maximus bios it should be the 1102, is this correct?

3 - If I flash to the Rampage then I should use 1207, is that correct?

    Thanks,

1207 is the current MAXIMUS bios, 407 is the current RAMPAGE bios.
thay are released for the new cpu stepping on the E8600 and Q9650.

Flashing your Maximus to Rampage will yeild higher FSB and lower volts.
most ppl are seeing around. 25-45fsb increase and 2 notches less of vcore.
308 Rampage bios is the best so far for bandwidth. 407 is not a bad bios but if you dont need it I would not run it, I like 308 , it has a higher tref value and is a really stable bios.
Also the det dram hang is a thing of the past cause you can manually set your PL level, Clock Skew is another handy feature which allows for higher ram overclocks while maintaining stability

    Hi Guys,

I must say that i did tryed the search, but didn't find ...

After flashing my mobo Maximus Formula, with the 403 bios - to rampage, the LCD Poster - blinks all the time, with the clock.

Sometimes windows starts, and everything is ok, but after ( nothing ) it blinks, blinks and blinks ... until i reboot computer, even in bios sometimes it starts the blink - ... I tryed every little config to find out what was the problem, but ... no way. I can't imagine, what is the problem.

using as stock maximuls formula, never happened, just after the conversion !!!!

Anyone knows anything about this !?!?

    aqui funcionou de boa... Enfim...

407 was even worse then 403 for overclock, around here, higher voltage on NB ans Vfsb for lower stability.

most likey its a syntax error.

Make sure you type in uppercase

    /AFUDOS /iRF0407.rom /pbnc /n

so rename your bios 407 to RF0407 and it should work

Use the AFUDOS v2.29ES not the v2.36ES. Plus I suggest using 0308 BIOS over 0407.
