Anyone know what could cause that it takes 13min to burn a DVD at 16x ? Took like 6-7min with my formula and i use the same dvd-recorder etc...

What would be the best Air cooler for this board that would fit with the larget northbridge heatsink ?
a TRUE JUST about fits with the uprated NB heatsink. the Zalman CNPS9700-NT fits without any problems
hi, have just installed my rampage extreme but have a strange prob with my qx9650:
at the boot page there stands qx9650 @ 3,0 but "count:2" so only 2 cores. at windows, all programs (cpu-z, everest, taskmanager, coretemp) and vista (hw manager) itself report 4 cores/counts.
so is it just a bug at the boot screen or something serious? alrdy flashed to 0404, but still the same screen.
Ok, I spent the morning chopping up and filing down ramsinks lol! However, I think this is much better (thanks EF for the tips):
Sorry about that bad pic quality, but u get the idea
Anyway, for those of you prepared to fiddle, using 3rd party cooling on this board is well worth the effort. NB temps are far far better using my S-max. Now i can really start pushing without worring about NB temps being 60 degrees +. Its currently sitting at around 35 degrees![]()

does anyone else's rampage extreme ROG light and start button flash on and off when your shutdown ?
Mine doesn...just wondered if it's normal. My striker II extreme ROG light stayed on all the time.

Will the Thermalright IFX-14 fit with 4 x g.skill memory blocks installed and with the proper heatsink on the northbridge?
I would like the RoG light on all the time. The first time I saw it pulsating i thought the board was powering up and down !
@ Mike
I Have now done pretty much the same thing as you and EF, except in stead of cutting the heatsinks i added small peices of thermal tape over just the mosfets and then put the heat sinks on top of that.
Cant give you any results at the mo but the sinks do sit nice and flush now.

Lol... I didn't take mine out. Just unplugged it.Just rip the thing off, Its only stuck on with tape, it does nothing anyway, I think its stupid to be honest.![]()
Heya guys, first post here - and thanks to Jody if he got my approval pushed through (took about a week).
Picked up my RE last week and the first thing I did was remove the Fusion block to do some custom cooling with it. I was very careful taking this off because I've been through the process before with my Maximus Extreme - was a pretty trying endeavor. My particular board appears to have had some QC issues as one of the inductors above the northbridge ended up staying attached to the Fusion block when I removed it. Really didn't notice that much resistance, but upon inspection it appears the legs of all 3 inductors on the 'south' side of the board were cold joints so this would explain it. I ended up just removing all 3 and ordering the largest current rated 1uh inductors I could find from digikey in the same package dimensions so in the end this will probably be an upgrade from the existing ones.
Also, plan on doing something slightly different with cooling for the northbridge regulation area...this plate:
can be removed from the Fusion system with (quite) a bit of effort. Yes, it needs to be cleaned up a bit with a grinder.
Here's the general idea:
All held together with generous amounts of AS Alumina epoxy. Could have just used a 40mm heatsink/fan - but all of the other fets are h2o so why not.
You can get a general idea of what I'm looking to do in my sig. Hopefully, I'll have no further setbacks with the system moving forward.![]()

Hello
...some problems with fault stock heatsink, see here: http://www.forumdeluxx.de/forum/show...&postcount=338
Do be careful with the block stuck on top of those inductor/FETs, as you have already experienced how easily they come off, the whole northbridge VRM area may go if a little force is applied on the water block.
Also isn't the Alumina epoxy conductive/capacitative?
Anyway great to have you onboard and keep us posted on your progress!![]()
