So i finally got my board stable at 3.6ghz and here are the voltages used.

Does anyone know how to get this motherboard to shut down in case the CPU gets too hot?

I purchased some temperature sensor cables, but I'm not sure where to put them. I guess I should put them on the retention bracket for the CPU to get it as close to the core as possible. Any thoughts. You would think that there would be a setting in the BIOS to select a shut down temp for the CPU. There is one for the NB and opt 1,2 and 3 temp. Am I missing something?

there is a temperature alert in bios, never made it so hot anyway
c2d should also shut down the mobo after 85/95

On another note, I just received 4GB G.skill Ram that was shipped on June 28. Got to love UPS. Newegg already sent me a replacement a month ago. I guess I have to send this back to Newegg .

I run 112MHz cause Nvidia suck and anything below 108MHz causes problems with their GT200 cards when it switches between clock gens.

Last board I tried to push an ICH that high was my P5WDH, and that failed stability at more than 117MHz. SB1.5V voltage is actually the SATA voltage, maybe if you increase this to 1.70-1.75V 120MHz may be stable. Higher voltage may give less clock jitter at those frequencies.

I'm using Rampage Formula...
but i always have this problem which till now i still can't solve.

Whenever i leave my system running for a long time like 20hrs...
My system will go crazy..

When i leave it on for a long time (20hrs onwards), my system will have memory/ram problem. So i have to restart my system, when i restart i will run memtest. And all the errors will start coming out. BUT.... if i choose to shutdown.. and start system... all the error doesn't come...

It's a really funny issue... Could it be the NB being too hot?

I tried 120 just today at 1.6v and works so far, played cod 4 for an hour.

We need more information. What are your BIOS settings? Mainly, CPU voltage, speed, FSB, Multiplier, strap; and Memory votage, speed and timings. Actually, if you can just tell us all, that would help. Take pics or upload your BIOS settings.

I found that trouble shooting works best if you unhook all unnecessary components. Leave just motherboard, CPU, RAM, Video Card, PS/2 Keyboard and Mouse, Hard Drive and Monitor.

Im having troubles even posting @ 450x8, shouldnt this board do that with ease?

I can run 415x9 no probs 24/7, so im a bit confused. Do i need to raise CPL for higher FSB's?

Maybe performance level is too high, try 7 or 8. Your Q6600 might need more volts. What's your VID?

I set everything to auto with CPL to 7 and it posted at 465x8 but was unstable.

I cant seem to get it above 3.75ghz stable, im not sure if its my cpu max or timing issue.

Cant afford a new monitor yet. I will be stuck at 1600x1200 until I get one. I'm really waiting for those 240Hz LCDs that Samsung will be making next year.

i might be getting this board and i have some questions. i know they might have been answered but 42 pages is alot.

i have read about other maximus boards and people say that nb and sb contact arent that great and that you should add say as5 or mx-2 before the frist time you start it becuause the regular stuff will turn to like cement and coudl wreck your nb if you take it off after that initial run.

should i change the thermal paste

this will be my first "real" motherboard in my first build. i was wondering if this would be a good board for me.

how much of an overclock do you guys think i could get with an e8500 with a zalman cnps9700 cooler.

im also geussing that a 9800gtx would work fine on this mobo?

are there any other things i might want to know before i buy this mobo.

This is a pretty complicated board, but the auto setting work pretty well. If you are willing to devote some time into studying it, than you will be very happy with it. If you have no overclocking experience, you have a lot to learn. I've been using this board for four months now and I'm still learning.

I don't think it is necessary to remove the heatsinks, but it would be a good idea if you are comfortable with it. Be very, very careful. Be careful of all the tiny traces and soldered on components, they are very fragile. Treat it like it's a bomb that could go off with the slightest bump.

You should be able to hit 4Ghz on the E8500, but it depends on the chip. Some will do higher, some won't hit 4Ghz. I would suggest getting the 8600 if you haven't bought the 8500. Or wait a couple of weeks and make sure you get the E0 stepping. It is guaranteed with the 8600, but they have old stock of the 8500. Find a site that guarantees steppings. It will make a huge difference, maybe up to 500Mhz.

If you haven't bought the video card yet, you should probably get an ATI card since it can be used in crossfire with later upgrade. This is the main reason you should be getting an x48 chipset -extra bandwidth. The 9800GTx will work fine on the board though.

This is an excellent board. It will only be limited by the user's knowledge. If you are willing to learn, the board is willing to go the distance. Start reading the whole thread. There is a lot of vital information in it.

Hey Buds. I am finally passed my non-working floppy drive issue.

So ... now that I can easily boot into Memtest now, I get a few errors with Memtest86 and about a dozen errors with Memtest86+. All errors occur at the end of any test between 99% complete and 100% complete (right before it starts the next test) and the failing address of every error listed is always 00000000000. This happens using any of the four motherboard RAM slots and using either of the two sticks of RAM I have.

Any ideas what to do next? Can I get the OCZ Reaper HPC PC2 8500 RAM that I have to run with no errors at stock speeds or a bit above at this point?

The problem with memtest is that it doesn't tell you what is wrong. The only thing it can tell you is that when it can pass multiple tests, than your memory system is working properly. A failure doesn't mean that your RAM is bad.

Your testing these at stock speeds right? Are all the voltages adjusted to specifications for the RAM. If you can't get memtest86+(the better one) to pass at stock speeds, you either have a defective MB or RAM or something is interfering. Unhook all unecessary components and try to get it to pass with only the CPU/MB/PSU/Video & RAM. If it sill fails, you need to try replacing the other components to see if you can isolate the problem.
