I'm using OCZ Freeze. And are you sure I'm supposed to put the TIM on the CPU only?

Here's how benchmarkreviews.com showed to do it: http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.ph...1&limitstart=5

Hmm after seeing that review it looks to better option to do the 2 line thing and fill in the gaps on the sides of the pipes, but if it is very think paste ... i think heat transfer will not be good.

If you spread it on the CPU only .... then obviously the sink will be covered where the CPU mates up to it, but i would fill on those pipe gaps first and then spread on CPU only ..... no 2 line thing used either ... thats what i would do and try.

Also ppl i like to note about 5-10 min ago i flashed to the 1201 Bios listed on the FTP site of Asus and all is well so far, but i ahve not tested stability yet on thsi bios ... all i am saying it is running the same specs i had previously .... np's ... no boot up issues ... no blue screens..... so far it is OK.

When and if i test it i will post to let ya all know.

Hey wongnog, I hate to say it but why don't you buy a cooler that is easy to fit and doesn't need the mobo taking out the case every time you swap out a CPU?

That's one of the reasons I bought the TRUE as I can't be dealing with all that hassle. Your temps are very high indeed, could be you have overdone the spread of the TIM or perhaps you didn't mount it as good as before? also have you adjusted the voltages manually, whack down that vCore and you will soon get much better temps.

That looks like way to much thermal paste to me. I only used a rice sized dot in the middle.

Well I bought this build 3 weeks ago and this is my first time with an intel system so I've had no experience with those intel push-pin cooler designs. Now I know better! Also the Vendetta is SUPPOSED to be "easy" to install without taking out the motherboard, but on my first try I had such a hard time I ended up slicing my hand several time on the sharp heatsink fins But now after oh, a DOZEN removals/remountings I have finally figured out how to do it in without taking out the mobo. Just gotta be careful cause if those pins don't "click" you can easily apply too much pressure to try and get them in. Anyway I think I got the handle on it now.

So after taking off the Vendetta, I noticed that my 2 "grain of rice" blobs didn't spread well at all and in no way would have covered the two dies of the Q6600

So I followed the AS5 method for quad cores I found on their site and am getting better temps this time around: 37°C idle, 62°C load. No pics of post-heatsink removal though to see how the TIM spread, but I'm pretty happy with these temps.

stock speeds or overclocked? Cause 62 load was what i was getting with the stock crap heatsink that came with my q6600.

Hi guys.. Im just new here and I bump in this forum when I search for an answer to my problem.. I found you guys helpful...

Moreover, I envied you all cause you have maximized the potential on this board...

My experienced is entirely opposite to what you have attained.. I can't push the potential of this mobo because of a certain problem...

Have anyone here experiencing the same probelm as I do... Everytime I restart my PC, in Start>>Turn Off Computer>>Restart and even in Exit and Save Changes in my BIOS, the PC screen hangs.. Just a plain black.. But all of my Fans are Spinning... It won't POST...

I have updated my BIOS to 1004.. Hope you guys could help me on how to configure my machine...Heres my Specs

The only true way IMO is to have extra parts to swap around but, if you don't think it is your CPU then I would say the MB has an issue or maybe the Power Supply.

i spread the TIM myself, plastic baggy over index finger trick.

never expect TIM to spread perfectly on its own, it almost never does.

Anyone notice an improvement with bios 1201 ? I have tried all of the betas and official bios except the 1201. So far the best one that works for me and high FSB its 0704.

Looks like the direct touch heatpipes are barely making any contact with the chips surface?

Looking at that picture It would seem best to apply some TIM direct to the base of the heatsink along the three heatpipes and apply a good amount of downward pressure when fitting, the surplus should splurge into the gaps. . .

Can't quite work it out but there is something stopping the two surfaces mating properly?

haha nice work Big.Wayne! I think my application of 2 small grains of rice didn't work to spread the TIM enough. Last time I did 2 long lines and after removing the Vendetta I noticed a lot of surprlus so I tried less this time. The third application I did was 1 long horizontal line like the AS5 manual says and so far so good.

Donno, are ppl that lazy now that they don't evenly spread thermal compund over entire IHS? Placing those blobs is like lottery (see above). They might spread well or they might not, but you never know for sure. If you spread it through entire surface, it would spread nicely regardless. For direct heatpipe contact coolers it's better to spread compound on the cooler instead on IHS so you fill the heatpipe gaps for sure. I mean it's gonna take like 2 minutes longer with 100% proper results.

actually, you are using WAY too much TIM, but concidering your cooler i can see why.

    suggestion?
    try a different cooler

There's the dodgey & quick ways of applying paste, and the common sense way. The common sense way is to apply some paste to the centre of the cpu, and spread it out evenly with a razor blade. You can also use a plastic baggie over the finger (as said above) but personally I think the razor spreads it more evenly. This applies a thin, even depth of paste over the entire IHS. This practice maximizes the surface area in contact with the heatsink base, therefore maximizing the thermal transfer.

They don't suggest this on websites as it sounds like a lot of hassle compared to saying "just put a line of it on the cpu", and it is some hassle, but I actually find it almost fun, and it's worth the effort.

Do it once, make it perfect.

no problems with bios 0506 an 0803.
but I have a problem at all bioser,it is strap 400 would like to be able to use it with 500/600 fsb.
I had 1103 installed for awhile, and had no issues with any of the dividers. I used 400/333/266 without issues.

The only issue I have is the damn board is impossible to get over DDR1200. I can use the 4:5 divider and set 499 FSB and get it orthos stable at DDR 1200, but if i set 500 FSB (which gives DDR 1201), no post. Ridiculous. My old P5B clocked ram better than this.

I am not quite 100% orthos stable (still working on what needs to be tickled a little) but at 506 FSB (DDR 1215) I can boot and bench just fine, but the stress programs seem to stop responding after 5-15 minutes (rather than error).

I have not pushed the memory at a lower mulitplier (stopped at 506@8.5 cause i think 4.3Ghz will be the cpu limit) to see how far it will go (prob should do that) but the board does seem to go over 1200 for me without doing anything crazy.

With the direct contact heatpipe coolers you will need to use more TIM than normal, and spread it around a bit on the CPU.

Yeah I have seen some guys get 1200+ on this board. What do you have vdimm & vNB set at when you get 1200+ ? Also, what bios are you using?

vdimm: 2.26 (ram is rated for 2.3v , using less in bios to account for board giving it extra)
    vNB: 1.3v
    Bios: 1103

The post you are referring only concerns to: vDimm; vNB; vPLL; vFSB.

    vCore is not there

I might have overlooked, and if so, i apologise.
