Any device should first be tested as designed for normal use.
Then after those numbers are acquired one can look to see if any improvements can or should be made.
If you reverse that you can screw up what the manufacturer has much time into and not present a fair review.
Do it stock first, then mod the hell out of it to see if you can make it better BUT the review itself should be based on stock.

If you afterwards get better numbers modded, send them to the manufacturer.
They are human too and possible you found something they missed.
That way everyone wins and this process becomes a joint venture working together.

    Great discussion!

I'm going to spend some time reviewing both ways, stock as shipped "Package as a whole tested" as well as my usual hold mounting hardware/pressure constant "Block only tested". It does mean a heck of alot more work, but considering we probably have a large percentage of first time buyers, you probably should look at it both ways. This will give you both what you might expect as shipped and be a good tool in evaluating mounting mechanism performances. There is a big difference in the accessories you get with different blocks and that's a good way to bring that into it as well.

Time to cut a hole in the MB tray...

LOL @Andy... OK, will test as supplied by Swiftech FIRST, without even opening the block up. Then I will do the 5 mounts like I've done with every other block.

    thanks guys.

note 1: when testing "as supplied", your 5 mounts method is perfectly appropriate, and in fact recommended. It is the very same method we employ. We do find variations between mounts and safe for gross inattention on the part of the operator, they are discrete, but measurable nonetheless.

note 2: the screws are designed with a stop so that they bottom out a few tenths above the motherboard. therefore they should be fastened all the way down. spring tension is quite firm, reason why we use this large thumb nuts to ease the fastening process.

please make sure you bottom out the screws, or you will lose some perf.

Same as the D-Tek pro mount, which require to bottom out the screws to the backplate stop for best performance. This also help with mounting consistency.

    Thanks .

According to the data on the site it should be better performing than the EK and less restrictive. If independent testing shows this to be true than this is quite a block .

The design looks promising. I just finished my roundup of 17 CPU blocks. Hopefully the GTZ will come to Germany in time =)

For the record: I also test every block with the mounting it comes with. That's the way most endusers will be using the block, though selfmade mounting might improve performance on some blocks.

A new water-block release is quite a special opportunity, and we have to give our network of dealers -who have been supporting our brand for close to 10 years, priority in serving the end-users; Even if we placed the product on our site, we couldn't ship direct yet as we are too busy shipping wholesale; so we send product to dealers first, and then we'll put the product online.

Very nice! I really appreciate the c/w and comparative data on the website, very very happy to see that...this gives me something to compare with as I do my own. I've done the same thing in the past on pressure drop testing and it's been really nice to have another result to compare against.

It's simply refreshing to see performance data on the manufacturer websites...thanks!

It looks promising, wish it came in acrylic for the bling factor, but you can't have everything.

Isn't this correct for a quad core but off 90 for a dual core, or does it not really matter that much?

Socket triangle would be in the lower right corner.

On a dual core, the cores line up horizontal in the above picture.

Sidewinder Computers is showing Aug 14 as the date they receive theirs. I placed my order this morning for one. I just read about this block this morning on OCForums and went checking things out.

I plan to test on 2 different systems. My main rig is a U2-UFO case running a QX9650@4100 with a Fuzion v1 /with quad nozzle and MCW60 on a 8800GTS G92 with a PA120.3 and double fan heater core; pump is an Iwaki MD 20RTZ for the loop and the second system is an old Antec SX1200 case with an E6300@3500 with a Storm Rev 2 and PA160; pump is an Eheim 1250. I figure this should give some performance numbers for both high pressure pumps and med/low pressure pumps and also quad and dual core numbers too.

    from our web site:

"Mechanical design of the copper base plate is optimized for Intel® socket LGA 775 and 771. The assembly features a patent pending design characterized by a topographically mapped CPU contact area which results in a 75% and up to 300% improvement in TIM joint thermal resistance compared to the Apogee™ GT/GTX series. Other types of sockets such as AMD® socket F, AM2, and 940 as well as upcoming sockets similar in design to that of socket 775 may also benefit from the enhanced contact area."

we are NOT talking about cores gentlemen, we are talking about TIM. Please keep that in mind. The orientation of this waterblock is socket specific, not core specific.

    Thanks..

OOPS, forget it, I see them..
Had to see the one pic where the mounting screws weren't in place..
Nice looking WB and I have these 2 cpu's that are just crying out for this..
