He is running a quad so that takes more vNB to run at a given FSB than a dual core. It's a moderate bump up from where he is at so he can eliminate the MCH as his restriction.

It may also be his CPU taking more than the average cpu of that type, so bumping up both can help eliminate things as the cause of the instability.
