That's exactly what I was thinking when looking at the pics. It's like now they are bringing server features to the mainstream. That doesn't look like a PC board to me...

All first release Nehalem boards will most likely be as their design was most likely finished before that. Don't count on that for the later releases though :P

Wonder if that will mean there will be some dual CPU enthusiast level boards from other board makers now since the main chipset is also the dual CPU capable server one.

Never going to exist. What use would a chipset with QPI and no memory controller be for CPUs that don't have either?

This is a demonstration board, so that could be the reason why there is no IHS on the chip.
If memory serves me right the demo boards of other chipsets were shown off w/o an IHS as well.

I'll just wait for ASUS ROG series

And yes, that's not odd if X58 has SAS ...

Are the ROG boards really better? Always seemed kind of like a scam :P their normal boards seemed to have the same features, the ROG ones usually just came with flashier packaging and some kind of sound card you wouldnt wanna use anyways if you were gonna go with an add on card.

Does the SAS support really not support Raid 0 or 1? if so thats kind of lame.

ROG generally has better OC performance. I still like the ROG features ...

SAS should be RAID supported ... That's according to m/b manufacture to add up an SAS feature or not. Our mobo(more bigger than P6T ) doesn't add the SAS chipset, but the layout is ready to adds optional SAS feature if needed

Think this chipset will promote more mobo manufactures to make a Dual CPU Enthusiast grade board now that the Server dual CPU capable chipset is the same as the high end enthusiast one is?

Test director Kenneth Bainbridge in turn said to Oppenheimer, "Now we are all sons of b**ches." wiki

A bit OT saaya, but are you some kind of nomad? It seems that you show up all over the world, you are now in Taipei.....
Must be great though, I wouldn't mind having to travel that much .

I'm glad they are releasing complete boards, I would not want half a board or a half-baked board .
    And now in all seriousness:
That's nice to know, that means the Nehalem launch is getting pretty close now...or isn't this a public launch?

IDF is next week as well, that's the official launch of the product line. Products won't be launched until October though.

But the downside is that you'll only get two 8x lanes.

Or they have to implant two SL200 chips as they did in the skulltrail motherboard for two full 16x lanes.

But that's more $ and heat + difficult to find place on the motherboard
