I'm running dual smp's on all 3 of my quads still...
the way I did it was...
1. delete old client, do not uninstall AC...
2. install new mpich client http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandeg...-SMP-mpich.exe
3. copy shortcuts of install.bat and the new exe that replaced fah.exe to desktop.
4. run flags on the new exe shortcut... I'm using -smp -local -advmethods
5. when you go through adv config questions anser "YES" to disable affinity lock (new ques) for both clients. and make the second client machine id 2.
6. now they run just like the old 5.91's did with AC.
Wait, is there no way to run 6.22 as service? Or am I missing something?
Oh nvm, there it is... it's been a while since I installed the clients..

Quick edit lol, hope you got it all sorted out. Btw, Stanford's FAQ includes the right instructions to for service installment.
Yeah, but the second smp won't install the second service, it's sort of conflicting. Is this normal for 6.22?
Not sure haven't checked the forums for the smp client and I only run one. But you can check with services managment console to see for yourself I suppose? Did the client give an error or do the services try to run two clients from the same location ( check the paths! )?
The paths are a-ok, I'll retry, maybe it's a naming problem... let's see...
Edit: It doesn't seem to work for me, even with the right machine ids and right paths. I'm trying to install the service manually now.

I've never run smp or dual smp's as a service, so no help here...
I've always just done it the manual way from desktop shortcuts...
login is the install.bat
and fah is the exe -flags
I do know Vista can't run the gpu2 clients as service as it needs hw acces but the smp always ran as service ( without support ).
Can you post some more info, what exactly is the conflict you're reporting? Do two fah exe's show up in taskmanager/processes? Do they start their fahcore's? Can you post the logs for both clients in [ code ] tags? Even if I don't know maybe if we all look at them we can figure it out together.
Well, I'm not even at the point where the would be fired up. I installed the first one and configured it, copied the install over to the second working path changed machine id and ran configonly to install the second service, but no love. Now I just deleted the second folder and did a install there, but it still complained. But now I changed the machine id on the second again and suddenly it works... but don't ask me why there was a problem to begin with...

If you ran config fahlog is already there
Really can't be of any help at all without more info![]()
Thanks man!
I solved my problem, but I still wonder what it was. I'll try to outline what happened:
1. Deinstall/ Delete old client after it ran out of wus.
2. Install new client in fah1
3. run install.bat in fah1, run configonly in fah1
4. Copy the whole sh*te to fah2, change machine id to 2
5. Run install.bat in fah2
--> complained about colliding machine ids
So I did:
6. Clean out fah2
7. Run a real install on fah2
8. run install.bat
9. run configonly in fah2
10. add -smp -local -verbosity 9 -forceasm -advmethods in regedit
10a. set username/passwd in service details
11. reboot
12. start AC and the clients, be happy.
In the end I think the problem was here that I ran step 5 AFTER I changed the machine id, I think one must run install.bat before for it to work. Maybe..

it may not matter.. but when I install dual smp's. I run the install twice for each dir... nothing is copied from one dir to the other....
then run both install.bat's and both .exe -flags with adv config ques answered the first launch of both clients.
then restart to make the "disable affinity lock" take in the client, since it says it needs a client restart to make the adv config ques stick....
but we all know there's more than one way to skin a cat, and you'll probably find zero ways in the fah faq![]()
-advmethods is obsolete it picks that up from advanced options within config.
Mike not sure you really need to run install.bat twice, MPI/Deino aren't folder/location specific components they are system components ( one install can be used for as many instances as you like ).
I seen some people end up with dubble MPICH or DEINO processes after a double install, not allot but it seemed to happen.
Mike: Hehe, yup that's right mate!
After all I wonder now if it would have worked if I had run the install.bat first in the copy-over method. Or the problem resulted both because I copied over and ran install.bat after configonly in the second folder... dunno. But both are chugging along fine now, fahmon reports correctly, so I'm done with the update I guess. No folding farm running here... ^^;
Yup, two mpiexec, two fah.exe, 8 _a1, but just one mpi2 service. But that was the same for me on the old client IIRC. No worries, though. If something borks, I'll report it here.![]()

sc00p you might add the alternate option to use -smp as flag in advanced options, additional client paramaters as opposed to the shortcut, and while you're at it -verbosity 9 -forceasm
Edit: also, step 4 suggesting the 'users' locations is only valid with UAC running, if you have it disabeld it does not matter afaik? Trying to add as much to this as we can, makeing it the best guide![]()

I'll try to take the time needed to proper rewriting at next weekend...
...I agree XS deserves the best...
I didn't try with disabled UAC, I'm just running them from my user directory. What needs to be in the guide is that install.bat and the first time configonly need to be done with admin rights, otherwise service install won't work (for Vista, that is). Oh and btw, did anyone notice? The new clients seem to be immune to reboots or service stops. It happened several time here already I haven't lost one of the wus.
i cant get past the .bat file, it wants a pass, i dont have a pass and i am under admin

Maybe it doesn't support empty password inputs, so just try setup a passwd for your account and try again.
Darkorb I take it you're using DEINO? If so, leave the account and password blank, or so I heard ( must admit I run mpich only )Only during the client configuration ( last step ) you need to fill in a username and team number

Woah, deino doesn't need a user/passwd input?
Try it and let us know
Yeah it doesn't need one it seems![]()
if i leave it blank this is what i tsays
