Hi guys I have a question for anyone and I sort of need to make a decsion quickI have a EGVA 9800GTX and I have a chance to upgrade for shipping cost only to the EVGA GTX 260
Do you think it would be better than what I already have? I know it is more memory but not sure, I don't want to go backwards. I would love to get the GTX 280 but that would be 150. more (which is not too bad)
thanks anyone![]()

If it was me, i would change...
I've changed from a 8800GTS 512 to an ATI 4870 (more or less the same performance that the GTX 260), and i've noticed a lot.
EVGA X58; I7 920 C0; OCZ Reaper 1866 88824; Sapphire 5870; 1x SSD; 2xWD 1Tb GP + 1 Tb WD Black; X-FI Titanium; Corsair HX 620; Lian Li PC-50P
sweet guysthanks for the info, I didn't want to go to a less powerful card. Would piss me off to trade from good to less

My Q6600 takes 1.50v (actual) 1.525 (bios) just go stablize at 3.55ghz. It's a G0 stepping. Loads at 60* on water cooling with an apogee GT. Any ideas? Because this is higher than just about everybody else runs on moderate clock voltage.

Hey guys, I've got my E6750 running comfortably at 4ghz (stress tested with prime, 3dmark06 looped etc). I did try for a wee bit higher but I think i'm lacking something. 4.1ghz and 4.2ghz both boot but 4.2GHz blue screens after everything finishes loading whilst 4.1ghz is solid until you play games or test in after 3hrs as it random restarts.

I'm using Adata Extreme DDR2 1200 - none of my overclocks seem to like it very much if I tell it to run at a certain speed but it's happy on auto but I think if I recall its either running 1050 or 1250...
Any ideas? I think it's still got some kick left to take it further. Will lap the bugger if need be!

Hey all
After my main work rig took a dive and I went to my newer rig I pull out all my equipment from the old work rig.
Maximus Formula SE & QX6700 which was OC'd to 3.2 back then. Turns out it was my memory that went out after testing.
So I have set the Max and QX6700 with new memory up on my bench and plan to use it as my first runs with LN2. But before I started using LN2 on it I wanted to get back into getting the feel of this board. So it’s setup on stock cooling, nothing fancy, yet…
The BIOS on the board was 0401, the machine came up and running fine with Vista SP1, all setup stock and doing fine. I took a look here and saw that 1004 was what everyone seemed to be using so I flashed that, all good and booted fine.
So I go let’s get to some OCing
I reboot to the BIOS and set it manual, but I cannot change the CPU Multi or FSB. I select CPU Multi or FSB and hot return, nothing happens. Hmmm…
I then installed AISuite and I can change things there fine, reboot and the OC works.
Going back into the BIOS I can see the changes I made with AISuite but I still cannot change the CPU Multi or FSB.
It appears I have a stuck BIOS![]()
I have reflashed 1004, no help. So pulled the battery out over night and will see if that helped.
But in the mean time while I read through this very long thread about how to unstick the BIOS, I think I saw it someplace last night but I cannot remember where it was, can anyone give a hand on how to do this while I look ?
Thanks again
Will I was able to flash back to 0907 but still seems to be stuck![]()
Well all settings are at Auto.
If I set it to Manual so I can change the CPU Multi or FSB they will do nothing. I can move the cursor to the setting I want to change and hit return but that does not bring up any sub menu, it does nothing. All other settings I can change.
If I can to Crazy or the other settings that will work, but it will not show any of the FSB or CPU changes. They do work when I boot up and get into Vista.
AISuite will alow me to change those settings, and they will show up when I get into the BIOS, I just cannot change them in the BIOS.
odd problem
There is only a sub menu for memory, you have to enter the value manually for FSB and multi.
The first part should look something like this,
Extreme Tweaker
Ai Overclock Tuner : Manual
OC From CPU Level Up : AUTO
CPU Ratio Control : Manual
- Ratio CMOS Setting : 8
FSB Frequency : 450
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 333
PCI-E Frequency: 110
DRAM Frequency: DDR2-1081
I've always done it manually and never had an issue, + - keys take to long lol
But I suppose if hes having trouble then thats a good method
Well that worked, using the +/- keys. Man I remember hitting the return key and a sub menu pops up and you would scroll through that. Maybe that was the Striker board I have also.
Gezz I feel stupid now. Thanks all
Was the 0401 BIOS like that, hit return and a sub menu pops up ?

For certain items yes there all like that.
Glad its working for you now![]()
Yeah it is, thanks all
It's been a very long time that I have even looked at OC this board, had it all set up and just forgot about it.

Yeah I know crazy eh. It's fast tho !

That rig is waiting on Phase cooling
That's where my head has been, in the SSD area for awhile. Now it's time for some LN2 benching which I finally have all the equipment I need for that. So brushing up on on OCing (as you can see I need some work in that area LOL) before I get my feet wet with LN2
The Maximus/QX6700 will be the first victims, err test equipment for me to punish without too much fear of losing much. Hey you gotta start some where![]()
Ok then, it's been a good 6 months since I have posted in this thread. I have been running my 2.66ghz E6550 stable at 3.5ghz all this time!
Problem is I am getting a bit twitchy for a Quad Core now. Been looking at the Q9450 so I have a few questions...
Does the Q9450 work alright in this board?
What can I expect out of it, as stable Overclock?
Thanks
Edit: What is the latest Bios? Should I change anything else on the mobo??
