Hey Guys, Thought I'd post this, its from a guy on the hard forum, but it sounds pretty close to whats going on:

"According to this French article, the 790gx boards are scheduled to be released August 6th:

    http://www.pcinpact.com/actu/news/45...om-HD-3300.htm

The reason for the non-existant coverage of 790gx is due to an NDA. There is also corroboration that the release is "early August". See this link:

    http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...php?p=14386022

I hope it's not until the middle of next week, but these two completely separate and unrelated links are really pointing in that direction."

Rather dissapointing if true, but logically makes sense since Anandtech was talking about how they were communicating with AMD and Foxconn about BIOs revisions and such and if the second link is indeed true than they are under an NDA.

So unfortunatly we're most likely going to be waiting a little while longer

First link is in "French" I was hoping it was written by a French the second link seems "dead"
    Glad you summarized it
It least we have a "date" more or less.

The only thing im wondering is if that Foxconn and Anandtech are working out issues w/ the bios does that mean they are even in production yet? being as it was at first anticipated in late june, then early july, then late july, now early Aug, it's getting frustrating.

What we do know so far though is that the boards ARE doing well, and according to anandtech much better than expected. I was really glad to hear that B2 steppings are clocking very close to B3's so if this continues to pan out, not only will this be one he** of an update to the Phenom platform but a GREAT win for early adopters with B2's as well.

The downside is that we still lack a concrete date, early August is only as concrete as early July was. it's looking like the R700 and SB750 are going to lauch within a week of eachother. but if these boards are capable of OC's like we've seen from Anand the wait is going to be definatly worth it

My theory on that, which I posted about a week ago, is that the boards were late enough for whatever reason... that they decided to hold them back a bit longer to make SURE that they are 110% ready for the 45nm chips.

Holding back an extra month or even six weeks on somthing that was already REALLY late wouldn't be that embarrassing... but releasing motherboards NOW and then having compatibility problems in 2 month would be VERY embarrassing. They don't need anything like that to happen.

So caution now... OMGPEWPEWLAZERBEAMEYES after release of this AND the 45nm. (With maybe just OMGPEWPEWLEDEYES with the 65nm parts.)

The problem is that the large back to school orders are taking place now, and AMD is missing out on a large number of sales.. IMHO they should have released the boards and simply had a bios update later. If they are making modifications to the voltage requirements of the boards, that will entail much more than a two week delay that we have experienced so far.

You can bet the motherboard manufacturers are pleased as hell about having all that stock sitting in warehouses during the prime selling time of the year due to this delay.

PS: I have a Phenom BE that I has been waiting for two months for the 790gx/750 chips. He is not happy either

True but they wanted to get the Phenoms out before Xmas last year to make some $$$, and we know what happened.

I am guessing that the "primary" market target for these new boards are
the current B2/B3 Phenom owners and not the students. So if I have a low
clock B2/B3 Phenom - don't have much choice but to wait...
They might want to time the boards and the RV700 to come out at the same time as well.Besides AMD has a "new" guy at the top,so who knows.

    edit*
There is also the new AOD version, maybe that's getting "polished".....

Aren't most "back to school" computers laptops?

(Sorry I'm an old guy. We started seeing programmable calculators when I was in college. But you could NOT use them on any test... later you could use them but had to prove that the memory was erased. This was mainly for Physics classes. I guess now EVERYBODY uses laptops. Which would mean that in classes I would NOT if I was in school right not. I'd use a pad and paper just to be different. Besides... you don't really take notes in Math and Physics.)

It is approaching that situation, but not quite there until probably this year ....

Only in the last two maybe three years has laptop prices dropped sufficiently to spur a rush to back to school purchase (that is my opinion).

This year should be stellar for laptops though as both AMD and Intel positioned their newest products as mobile for the back to school rush. Laptops may actually cross over DTs as the most computers sold in Q3.
One hundred years from now It won't matter

WTF is that back to school stuff about anyway. You can buy computers when you're on school too.

August 6th, lets hope. I really hope the boards will be in stock though and not another 2~3 week wait for availability

Man, why do they have to do this. I just ordered a Q6600 and P45 mobo setup 2 days ago! I would've stayed with AMD if they would've released this just days sooner.

I don't want to lose the 15% restocking fee. Oh well, I build a new comp every 2 years, so hopefully AMD will have a competitive product and I'll go AMD next time.

So far the worst aspect I've seen of these reviews is that they have been positive, the Intel trolls are gonna be rabid.

Do you mean as same OC's as with 32 bit OS's or purely stability? If stability, Im pretty much sure 64 bit OS's wont be a problem at all.
