I wish I could answer that. Ther bios on this board does not report NB temps, only a generic motherboard temp. I will say that I have had the NB voltage set to between 1.57 and 1.65 for a few months now, and all is still OK. I have had a Fan on the NB since I went over 1.6v. I am running 1800mhx ram (2x2gb) at 8-8-8-27-1N so it is wuite a load on the NB.
A question that's been bugging me... during Prime95 test, is there a problem having the 4 cores passing the tests not at the same time ??? I say this because I have never succeeded moving the cores through prime95 tests simultaneously.
And the most important.. is this behavior a symptom of an eventual collapse of one or more cores after some time during the test (which is my case, since I happen to notice all the time the cores - at least one or two of them - moving asymmetrically through the tests, and eventually one of them collapses after an hour or less).
Overall, the possible key to prime95 success is to bump up the cpu and nb voltage until prime95 gives me an 8hour stable system, or something else ??
My settings are
multiplier 08.5
strap 333
fsb 450
pcie 105
dram frequency 1801
cr 1N
ram timings 7-7-7-18
dram static read & dynamic write control disabled
On skew settings dram CLK dimm A1 & A2 delay 200ps and B1 & B2 delay 225ps
clock twister stronger
PL 7
And the following voltages
CPU 1.41250
GTL 0/2 0.64
GTL 1/3 0.68
CPU PLL 1.56
FSB Termination 1.26
DRAM 2.04
NB 1.57 (with a 80mm fan looking halfway down the nb)
NB GTL 1.67
SB 1.05
clock overcharging 0.90
LLC Normal
Both spectrums disabled
all rest at AUTO.
And under Advanced CPU Configuration menu all disabled except CPU TM Function (this one remains enabled).
Please guys, give me your lights !!! THANK YOU.

I'm very busy trying to overclock my new system. And I have to admit I had a pretty hard time on getting some decent overclock. I just read this page and saw some complains about the Q817 batch. Well, I guess I'm unlucky then cause my CPU has batch number Q817A240 (pack date 4-6-2008) with a VID of 1.25V (in Everest).
I have the following results at this moment which seem te be stable. However I have to admit that I'm still trying to find some better settings and need to finetune. I would like you to shed some light on my current settings and maybe give some advise which would be much appreciated.
CPU: 4Ghz (9x445 @ 1.43725V) (RealTemp, Idle: 40 & 36; Load: 54 & 50)
RAM: 1780 @ 1.94V (8-8-8-26-2T; specs are 7-6-6-24-1T)
NB: 1.54V
VTT: 1.3V
DRAM static read control: disabled
DRAM dynamic write control: disabled
CPU spread spectrum: disabled
PCIE spread spectrum: disabled
Load line calibration: performance (this setting seems to prevent much of Vdroop according to CPU-z)
All other settings are on auto
In my opinion the Vcore and NB are bit high. Moreover I'm not sure what the highest acceptable values are for these settings. Anybody has some guidelines? But when I compare my settings with other E8400 owners I get owned big time although my settings need some finetuning. Is this only due to a bad CPU batch? Any help would be nice.

Nick2006, just looked at your settings. I see you have clock skew delay channel A 200 and channel B 225. If channel A is closer, shouldn't it be the one to be slightly more delayed in order for signal to arrive simultaneously? I'm not sure that this will make a difference though. Have you tried to "dial in" things for each channel seperately? Are you Superpi stable? I found that I needed a delay of 275 to 350 in order to run Superpi without crashing. I am currently waiting in order to do more testing as I'm waiting for a replacement memory module.
I have try littil more voltage on the cpu and I have past 45 minute more for a 8:30 hours stable but error on one core after this.Ihave try to put 1.57v at NB and I have failed the test at 2:58 hours ...I hope this motherboard have not the same probleme of my old (more NBv = less stable)
SuperPI is stable (tried with success 1MB, 8MB and 32MB). Also Memtest86+ gives me a full tests pass with no errors. The only problem still remains the Prime95 (blend) test that keeps giving me a core error after an hour or so...
I really don't know which setting to touch.. Tried almost all settings.. For example, if NB gets bumped up even a notch from 1.57 Prime95 hits within 10 minutes. If PLL and FSB Termination gets bumped up from 1.56 and 1.26 respectively, Prime95 hits almost at the same fisrt 10 minutes. Tried to increase Vcore from 1.41250 one or two notches, and CPUID HW Monitor reaches over 80 degrees C on CPU cores (in all other "normal" cases the highest celsius degree is around 70 - 72, note that i use air cooling with a Scythe MUGEN), and Prime95 doesn't delay from crashing a core or two down...
I really don't know anymore which one to increase or decrease. Thought that more power through electric circuits can make them work better, but how much, and which circuit, u know...
Complete despair so far for my high-end system...![]()

When I had the OCZ Platinum memory (4x1GB) I had all kinds of problems - similar to what you are experiencing now (I was not able to get up to where you are even at now however). It was definately a bandwidth issue for me (quad core and 4x1GB). Perhaps you may be able to "dial in" the skew for each channel (& memory slot) and see if that makes a difference. You would have to test each slot individually. Decrease CPU multiplier and increase FSB/DRAM frequency until you get errors in memtest86+ version 2.01 and then see if you can "dial out" the errors by hitting the right skew. This is a long and tedious process but perhaps might be able to help you achieve better stability. Interstingly for me it looks like Superpi stability will be able to help me dial in things and thankfully this does not take as long. Good luck.
Hey guys, can someone tell which the best divider for high fsb is? SuperPi 32M with 600FSB is only 1:1 stable
Edit: found the problem, board wont run CR 1T with 600FSB and bigger divider than 1:1

i also have some problem with the dividers, but i never thought CR was the theif in the drama
having trouble getting ddr2000, i know the ram can make it but when im coming upto 1956mhz the board gets unstable and cant handle it with no strap avaiable..
gonna try CR2 later, how much perf do you aprox loose with this?
regards.

I've put my qx9650 back in this board with the 0505 bios. I can bench 470-480fsb now whereas I could only get a 1m or validation at that sort of fsb on DFI LT X48 T2R and Giga EP35 DS4. This board is a keeper.. Last s775 board I buy.
@ Chri$ch
Man that's freakin' nuts, 4.5ghz 32m with 1.3v! The E0 stepping really looks the goods.. 5ghz benchable on air?

is it safe for 24/7 use to have NB Volt to 1.53? what is the safest setting for NB Volt?
this cpu looks so tempting, think im gonna get one any day hehe!
bought a 8400 yesterday, see if it were better than my 8500, the bastard didnt even get into win at 1.25v 4ghz.. required atleast 1.28 to load win...and it was almost 10c hotter at same speed..
more than 1.45+ for 4,3 it sucked bad time! was a q819**** , now its on swedish ebay the same day hehe ... cant have that shaajt, 8600 here i come!
how did CR1 suddenly work now, any setting you missed?
and another thing, i tried to set lower vcore than 1.25 but lowest on this board are 1.25? howcome, really annoying!
is it like that for you people?

Sorry I didn't take note of all the settings i used. but I wasn't aimng for stability, just a max benchable fsb without suicide voltages.
off the top of my head it was around 1.57nb, 1.3vfsb, 1.58pll, ram 1:2 around 950mhz 8-8-8-24-2t. PL9, skews all auto
I see you have 4x1gb ram. Getting a high fsb will be harder with all 4 running. You may need to play with the skews.
if you're having trouble with stability, start small and work up from there, 470fsb is not a setting i would use 24/7.. lowering that with tighter timings and PL will end up faster. try 400x9 and if you get that stable, save the bios profile and work it up from there. I'll try 445x9 and post the setting i use if it ends up stable

Hello .
I have got this board since 1 month , with a watercooled QX9650 and 2*2 GB ocz 1600 .
I use the bios 151 which is , for me , the most stable .
But , i always have some random freeze problem .
In fact , last night , i did a stability test with CPUstress and my PC has frozen after 4 hours of test !!!
Temperature NB : 49 °C after 4 hours.
In the bios , I tried everthing is possible to avoid such freeze problem but it seems that it is impossible to solve .
So i was asking me if there wasn't a NB temperature probleme . I think that the original heatsink is not sufficient to cooling the X48 ,moreover that the ASUS blue plate must not help my additionnal 92mm fan to efficiently cooling the heatsink.
Did someone find a solution to improve the cooling on this board ?
Is it usefull to remove the heatsink to see if there isn't a problem of contact or change the thermalpaste and remove the ASUS blue plate ?
