That ambient temp is a bit high, so getting 61-64c on that cooler sounds about right. I have a hyper 212 [not installed] and to my opinion they aren't that great. You should look into getting a heavy duty air cooler, like a Thermalright.

Cincyrob has a Hyper TX2 heatsink fan which is greatly different from the Hyper 212. I did a built for someone & used the Hyper TX2 which was adequate since there was no overclocking.

I have the Hyper 212 which cools my overclocked E8400 with low temps. When I do video encoding the temp will rise to 28c-32c. This is without the air conditioner running in my pc room. IMHO it's a great heatsink fan.
I'm in Honolulu, Hawaii with the temp today at 90 degrees F.

No I didn't lap the cpu or hsf. My vcore in mobo bios is 1.3125 & cpu-z shows 1.28. I do have 7 fans in my CM690 case.

The warm days finally came to Finland so now I had to up my vcore for stability. :P
Weint from 1.14v to 1.18 at 3807mhz just with an ambient temp increase of 6c. I thought I had a good E8400, but it was just the cool air it ran on.

Decided to try lower volts and see how it goes. 4000 requires only 1.21v. 4300 @ 1.32v. Temps are still high as hell though. Swapped my TRU for a Xigmatek Red Scorpion HDT and got worse temps by 3-4C Do you think it's a bad mount or could this E8500 just be very hot?

On stock speeds, stock voltage it gets to around 51C. At the 4000mhz, 1.21v run it got to 54C. Anything after 1.28 and things really start getting toasty with this for some reason.

Some really stability test? Orthos/Prime? And one more (and last time), TjMax temp for Wolfdale CPU's is 95°C!!1 So use Real Temp or change .ini file of Core Temp.

im down to 1.26 at 4.012 now still working on this dfi board.. temps are wacko on this e8500 they just go crazy up and down.. i can run orthos and it will under 100% go up to 64 then back to 45 then jump up and down all over the place?? seems to be just bad sensors on this one core 1 seems okay but does the same at times

testing at 4.1xx now with 1.29 so far it seems okay..

that seems really high for idle?? my first chip showed 32 at idle for both cores. this new one shows 35 on core 1 and core 0 shows 48 at all times until core 1 hits around 55-60 then core 0 jumps up to about the same temp as core 1 does..at 60 on core 1 core 0 is within a couple deg up or down so im sure this chip has sensor issues 100% not sure if i should rma it again though since this one is 100% stable at 4.080 with only 1.268vid which is pretty good from what ive read. these chips are def wierd temp wise..

not sure how much difference it made but my gtl are set at 65 but praz sais i should be able to leave then at the stock 110 but for me that would not run stable.. basically ive been stepping it down one notch at a time then running it to see if it was stable while also turning down the cpu vid and using the special add feature instead this seems to help a lot for stability instead of blastin it with higher voltage.. at least so far for me looks like 1.26 is as low as i can get it stable at 4.080 anything less i cant pass prime or orthos im now dropping the nb voltage and doing the same one step at a time to see what it really needs to be stable instead of just dumping like 1.4 or something on it.. trust me ive been pulling my hair out with this mobo in the beginning because i was simply trying to give it voltage and turning up the fsb and that was not working. this board is def a lot more picky it seems about every step i made compared to the abit and gigabyte i used to have

now im going to start upping the fsb and a small bit of voltage at a time then start orthos see how long it runs if it fails ill step up the voltage one notch at a time.. long process yeah but imo i want this to be stable with the lowest voltage and temps possible im shooting for 4.1-4.3 overall which should be do-able if i can keep temps down with this chip at probably just over 1.3 or right around there im learning the brute force method doesnt work with this board lol i never tried to "finesse" a board before but this one needs it

i just wish i had a chip that reported temps right this one with them bouncing all over the place is a bit scary at times i saw it jump to like 80deg for about a half second then back to 62??? im looking at the socket temps as well as the average temp over time at 100% cpu from orthos and hoping that is somewhat correct.. core 0 bounces everywhere after 60deg, once i find a good stable point then im going to lap this one to see if i can keep that oc with lower temps.

normally eye woulnt buy anything refurb but in the case of equipment like this getting a 2nd QA to look at it and put the latest updated parts on them before going out it kinda hard to beat
