Det dram hang is a result of wrong TRD settings.
First get everything off auto, set values manually.
Your FSBT is way to high imo

E3110 data point and sanity check

First, I'd like to thank everyone who has contributed to this thread so far. The Maximus Formula is my first attempt at really overclocking a motherboard, and your insight and experience has proven invaluable. Thank you.

The rig (as pertinent to overclocking):
    E3110 (Xeon E8400 equivalent)
    4GB Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066 (4x1GB DIMMs)
    Maximus Formula 1201 BIOS
    Liquid cooling via Koolance PC3-724 w/CPU-330 & CHC-122 blocks
WD Raptor 150GB 10K RPM (boot drive)
4 x WD 250GB 7500 RPM RAID 10 array (programs and scratch space)

Environment: Non-airconditioned San Francisco (about 24 celsius room temp)

I'm able to get 4.275 GHz with the following setup. I can get higher clocks, but this is very stable for me:

    Ai Overclock Tuner : Manual
    CPU Ratio Control : Manual
    Ratio CMOS Setting : 9
    FSB Frequency : 475
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 333
    PCI-E Frequency: 105
    DRAM Frequency: DDR2-1141
    DRAM Command Rate : 2T
    DRAM Timing Control: Manual
    CAS# Latency : 5
    RAS# to CAS# Delay : 5
    RAS# Precharge : 5
    RAS# ActivateTime : 15
    RAS# to RAS# Delay : 3
Row Refresh Cycle Time : 55
    Write Recovery Time : 6
Read to Precharge Time : 3

    Read to Write Delay (S/D) : 8
    Write to Read Delay (S) : 3
    Write to Read Delay (D) : 5
    Read to Read Delay (S) : 4
    Read to Read Delay (D) : 6
    Write to Write Delay (S) : 4
    Write to Write Delay (D) : 6
    DRAM Static Read Control: Enabled
    Ai Clock Twister : Strong
    Transaction Booster : Disabled
    Relax level: 1

    CPU Voltage : 1.45
    CPU PLL Voltage : 1.60
    North Bridge Voltage : 1.55
    DRAM Voltage : 2.16
    FSB Termination Voltage : 1.38
    South Bridge Voltage : 1.1
    Loadline Calibration : Enabled
    CPU GTL Reference : 0.63X
North Bridge GTL Reference : 0.67X
    DDR2 Channel A REF Voltage : DDR2-REFF
    DDR2 Channel B REF Voltage : DDR2-REFF
    DDR2 Controller REF Voltage : DDR2-REFF
    SB 1.5V Voltage : 1.5

Anything look terribly off here? Any suggestions on where to go (up or down) for these speeds? This is orthos small, blended, large, and FutureMark 3D06 stable.

Two weird things I saw during testing:

    1) CPU temps drop super quickly the second the stress test stops. Is this normal? I'd think that some heat would linger around, but the temps go from 65 to 37 C rapidly.

    2) I use the onboard RAID controller for my RAID 10 set. I found that the RAID group would go wonky (and start wanting to rebuild) unless I OC'd the board and gave the SB 1.1V. SB worked fine at a normal 1.05V at stock speeds, but demanded more when OC'd. This normal?

Ram IC is adressed by row, or column. As 4GB kit IC's are physically bigger, they have more rows and columns. this means it takes a bit longer to refresh the data within the IC.

Hey guys, I've got my E6750 running comfortably at 4ghz (stress tested with prime, 3dmark06 looped etc). I did try for a wee bit higher but I think i'm lacking something. 4.1ghz and 4.2ghz both boot but 4.2GHz blue screens after everything finishes loading whilst 4.1ghz is solid until you play games or test in after 3hrs as it random restarts.

Any ideas? I think it's still got some kick left to take it further. Will lap the bugger if need be!

It sets the tRD (performance level).

    I think Enabled (0) is tRD=7

So Enabled (1) is tRD=6 and disabled (0) is tRD=8

(please correct me if I'm wrong guys, I'm doing this from memory)

    Hi

I am running 533 on the FSB 100 % stable with current setting (have not potsted all, since rest are running auto)
I use the rampage bios 0403.

    Extreme Tweaker
    Ai Overclock Tuner : Manual
OC From CPU Level Up : AUTO
    CPU Ratio Control : Manual
    - Ratio CMOS Setting : 7,5
    FSB Frequency : 533
FSB Strap to North Bridge : 400
    PCI-E Frequency: 110

    DRAM Timing Control: Manual
    CAS# Latency : 5
    RAS# to CAS# Delay : 5
    RAS# Precharge : 5
    RAS# ActivateTime : 15

    DRAM Static Read Control: Auto
    Ai Clock Twister : Auto
    Transaction Booster : Manual

    Common Performance Level [10]

    CPU Voltage : 1.45
    CPU PLL Voltage : 1.50
    North Bridge Voltage : 1.51
    DRAM Voltage : 2.10
    FSB Termination Voltage : 1.42
    South Bridge Voltage : 1.125

North Bridge GTL Reference : 0.67X
    DDR2 Channel A REF Voltage : AUTO
    DDR2 Channel B REF Voltage : AUTO
DDR2 Controller REF Voltage : AUTO
    SB 1.5V Voltage : 1.5

My e8400 is a batch q0808xxx.. so it needs 1,4 volt for 100 % stable 4 ghz. Since i am running without loadline calibration i get 1,4 volt under load whit the v-core i use in bios.

But very happy with the system and being able to run 533 mhz on x38 chipset. ram running 1:1 at 1066 mhz.

    1066MHz @ PL10?
That must run like a dog, no reason to run such a high pl

I am running some cheap pc 8500 ram, and if i run with lower pl i won't post. But ty statement to say that it must run like a dog just because of that. Still with the high freq. on ram and so it runs very fast.

I got better results in many test programs than other.

What's your bandwidth/latency like in Everest? PL10 is pretty high.

No need to get all bent out of shape, PL10 is very excessive but if your happy with it then what others say should not bother you.
I would also be interested in seeing a bandwidth bench

I ran crisys benchmark, got avarage 24fps.
This should be better than that! I have two 2900xt's running crossfire enabled, I checked sais crossfire enabled yes, but the catalist hardware showes this:

This sais one card is disabled? on, my computer/device manager both adapters are enabled? also on the ATI override is unlocked, and I can see the second card yet the image above sais one card is disabled?

Thats actually not bad at all, latency is alittle high but besides that those Kingston dimms seem to be looking good

I get a latency of 51.8 with my PL at 7 and FSB of 467, so with FSB of 533 and PL at 10, that isn't bad at all.

I need to tweak a bit more and see if I can tighten up the latency a bit more (or I guess I could up the FSB and see if I can get some more bandwidth at the same latency)

Thanks for replyes. maybe i can also tweak ram settings more. only
    CAS# Latency : 5
    RAS# to CAS# Delay : 5
    RAS# Precharge : 5
    RAS# ActivateTime : 15

Which is not on auto, so maybe a can take some settings lower by manual choosing them. The latency is also normally around 54,7-54,8. I think it got 55 because i had just started the system.

Will try some manyel settings when i got more time, and it is these sticks i use 2*2 sets of: http://www.pc-lager.dk/vare-oversigt...r=16306&type=0

#zlojack: if not your e8400 should have some problems with high fsb i think you can go around the 533 also without probz. I went from 501 to 533 afte ri got the board flashed to rampage with bios 0403

Yes Zlojack buddy that chip loves high FSB, you could drop the multi .5 and run slightly higher FSB and see how that performs for you, I have had the chip as high as 545 so there is not much wall there for you to incounter.
Off topic, rant/on ...if Asus dosent pull there head out of there ass soon I'm going to have a fit, they have had the card since Monday and its still NOT in there system, the whole process is suppose to take 10 days 5 is up and its still not in the system, all I want is my FREAKING card, there rant/off I feel better now lol
