4870 Artifacting in Crysis on Stock

I have a 4870 and I run max settings (very high) on all items and run with 2X Anti-Aliasing. This gives me about 20-25 fps. However, I noticed that on some rocks at certain distances I start to get some snow-artifacting. I have created CCC profile to keep the fan at 70% during game play which keeps the temp around 60 degrees when underful load. All my other settings are stock.

So I am not sure why I am getting artifacts. It seems to be kept at a good temp. I downloaded GPUZ but I am not sure the extra temps. There is a GPU temp, then a GPU 1, 2 and 3 (so 4 read outs)... which are which?

seems weird, have you tried underclocking the memory to see if the artefacts disappear

Well I just ran a test with GPU-z
    GPU Clock 750/Memroy 900 (stock)
    GPU Temp was 63.0
    GPU Temp 1 was 63.0
    GPU Temp 2 was 73.5
    GPU Temp 3 was 68.5
    (Which temp is which?)

I tried taking a screen shot but I got a black screen (which means everything is in the hardware at that point?).

Ill try lowering the memoroy see if that helps.

Edit: I lowered it down to 800mhz from 900 and it artifacted just as bad... ideas?

Looks like it could be a faulty vid card or Driver problem i suspect it may be down to driver issues.
The last time i saw that was with my old HIS card (ATI). that i sent back..if your using directx10 it may be a known ATI driver problem.

if you're talking about flickering textures, that used to be a driver issue. ATI fixed it somewhere around the 8.2 driver iirc. i haven't seen it on my computer since. try the game without AA or AF and see if it still does it. also, make sure your game has all the patches applied.

are you checking for artifacts with ATItool? i have seen screens of crysis where the problem your seeing happens, but its not artifacts, just a long range draw issue

How do I take a screen cap when all the data is in the hardware buffers? Does Crysis have an incame capture?

Also...it MIGHT have happened because of the upgrade to the lastest Cat drivers that came out earlier this week. I dont remember if I had the problem before hand though.

Yeah, return it and get a GeForce 9800GTX, they're just as good and they quite handle 800mhz core and 2400 mem just fine with fan at 60% and 63c for high.

Or how about one of those GTX260, as you won't see these kind of mishaps with GeForce cards.

did you really just say a 9800 GTX is as good as a 4870?

well here's something that points to drivers, i have had 3 different 4850's
single mode and xfire and they all artifacted in crysis, stock or oc'd 1 card or 2 but they had no stability problems. In the scene when the sun comes up in the beginning of the game, when i crouched near the rocks and the shadows and were being rendered on the rocks i got white sparkly's on the rocks. Then i ran down into the shed/house/hut whatever on the shore and the wood and walls inside did the same thing. I hate crysis anyway its just a bench to me.
this points towards an ati problem or driver problem in crysis.

what you guys are describing doesn't sound like artifacting to me. patch your game, make sure you have the latest driver, and there shouldn't be a problem. if the problem persists, check your game's config.

This is not the hardware problem because all the card got the same problems (many people in other forum got the same problem too)!
hope the next driver update can solve this problem......

are you reading any of this? i said i had a texture flickering problem back at like the 8.2 driver but it got fixed a long time ago. if you still have the problem, do the things i listed earlier. a new driver release won't fix your problem if the problem was already fixed months ago.

its not texture flickering DUDE i think your the one not listening, the artifacts manifest themselves as white dots on certain surfaces and they "artifact" as if video mem would if overclocked too high.

I wouldn't say it's a defective card if the artifacts don't show in screenshots as I know for a fact they should and would if that was the case.

Your card isn't faulty, it's a driver problem which manifests itself when you run Crysis in DX10 mode. I experienced it also and if you force Crysis to run in DX9 mode, the problem disappears. Hopefully ATI fix the problem since apparently the Crysis devs aren't working on any new patches for the game.

Not sure if I'm allowed to link directly to a thread on another board (Rage3D in this case) but if you search in google with something like "white dots in crysis" you will find links to threads on other forums about this issue.

i can't see why anyone would run that game in DX10 anyway. it looks the same in DX9 with a good config and it runs faster.

It can only be described as a defective card if the artifacts appear in ALL games.

If they only appear in Crysis it is a driver problem, and yes ATI's drivers are not that great at all for Crysis.

    Wait for Far Cry 2
