    I think I will do that on my new one when I get it. I thought that it switched itself over to the other if there was a problem. I didn't think that you had to pull it out of it's socket and switch it.

    You shouldn't have to, but the shipping bios didn't agree with my cpu and ram, and curernt bioses still don't allow for proper boot when using an extreme cpu and setting multi above default. I've tried QX6800 and QX9650, if you fully power off with multi above stock, there's nothing to be done except clearCMOS and start over. Common issues for ASUS boards, actually, the multi one.

    There isn't much to tell about BIOS chip swapping. Primary BIOS chip is the one that gets flashed (left one when CPU socket is top side). Secondary is always read-only.
    So in order to flash secondary you have to turn PC completelly off, discharge it by pressing power button when unplugged or PSU switch OFF). Swap the chips. boot and flash.
    Repeat discharge process, swap again and boot. There you go, updated backup bios. Though be very careful not to screw both of them. As long as you have one functional you can play with them in any way you like.

    About AHCI and RAID...

    I have three HD's. Two for RAID 0 and one normal. All at the same controller (Intel). Can I set HD not in RAID in AHCI mode if I set in bios Intel controller to work in RAID mode ???

    If its set in raid,i think a single disc will always be in achi mode.

    It does move a bit but you really have to turn it a bit harder.
    I think adding something under those springs to make it a bit tighter should do the trick. Just don't overdo it as it might break something (either CPU or socket or whole mobo lol). I know i screwed my Akasa AK-922 quiet well and nothing went bad...

    Been using the P5Q Deluxe for a while now and it's been nothing but finicky (although the features are great). I figured maybe I could get some help stabilizing this thing if I posted some details about the problems so here goes:

    My rig really hates cold boots - usually I have to shut the psu switch off then back on again when I'm turning it on in the morning. I do have some random crashes but they're very infrequent - the cold boot issue is the most obvious one. I'm running 8x420 with ram @ 840 / 2.1V that passes memtest all day/night long at those settings so I don't think the memory is the issue. I also don't think cpu voltage or OC settings are necessarily the issue, because crashes take place randomly - like I can run Prime95 for 24 hours using all four cores with total stability then I'll get a critical error while surfing the web using firefox.

    The only thing I can think of is that I installed a new PSU - the corsair 750TX - with this motherboard. If I check my voltage the cpu voltage is showing up right, but the rest look kind of funny. Could the psu be causing my problems?? The rest of my voltages according to speedfan are:

    3.3V @ 2.95V
    5V @ 6.044V
    12V @ 13.31V (fluctuates)

    The rest of my specs are in my signature. Any ideas on troubleshooting this? Should I send my psu back? Could it be my motherboard / OC settings?

    EDIT: Just upgraded to 803 bios and still having cold boot issues / random crashes.

    Get a multimeter and check your voltages that way. BIOS and software can be (and usually are) way off.

    Don't have a multimeter . Any other way of testing things that's relatively accurate (better software)? Do my problems sound psu related?

    there is no "max". its all chaos above 500fsb, everyones getting different results depending on a couple million factors.

    24/7 100% stable on low voltages i can do 515fsb on my P5Q.

    I am having a very weird problem when stress testing. Below are my settings I am currently using. When running stress test, either Prime95 small FFT's or OCCT Ram tests windows will restart(NOT blue screen) and when rebooted tell me that I have suffered a hardware failure reported by my CPU. In prime95 round off checking is enabled and I ran a small fft test for 7 hours with no failures before windows kind of crashed(again it doesn't blue screen, just reboot). I have ran a few Ram tests with OCCT and those are passing right when I get the restart. Anybody know what could be causing this? I need some good settings for my NB,FSB term and CPU PLL to try with this set up so any help would be awesome. This is a Q6700 and bios 1102, check sig for entire set-up, thanks

    Edit: I have also just recently switched to AHCI for my SATA CD ROM and Barracuda ES.2 Hard drive. I don't think this is what is causing the problem but I am not 100% sure.

    If that reg key wont work I think my method by swapping OS hdd to 2nd sata controller -> turning AHCI on with all drives disconnected from red sata ports -> booting to windows -> installing AHCI -> boot again -> switch hdds back to red ports -> boot to windows and let it find drives -> boot should work I think...


    I did it with vista but cant see any reason why it wouldn't work on xp too. I was getting BSOD too if I turned AHCI on with drives on sata ports



    I have a feeling XP doesnt have native ahci support like vista does so thats why that regedit doesn't work on XP because there is no drivers it could load.



    EDIT: you cant install matrix storage if your bios setting is IDE. You cant boot without drivers for your hdd. So you have to remove drives from your red sata ports to be able to boot windows with ahci on (it wont need drivers if there aren't any HDDs connected). When BIOS setting is set to RAID/AHCI you can install matrix storage drivers. Then boot once to check everything still works. Then turn PC off and switch your hdds back to your red sata ports running with AHCI. With drivers installed you shouldn't be getting BSOD on boot anymore


    EDIT2: there is also regedit method like this:

    But notice its made for different chipset so you would need to modify the regedit. Less hassle to unplug/plug your hdds and boot couple times imo

    If I recall correctly those tests in the chart were done at 450FSB (but could be wrong)... you can select 1.12 vFSB as lowest, vNB 1.12 and ram at 1.82-1.92 in bios to give ya the values you want...

    Is it just me or is that advertised "jumper free" operation load of bollocks? Onboard reset and power switch are totally useless. I mean i do have a case and all...
    CMOS Clear still has to be performed with jumper... Though i was thinking of making switch by myself so i'd just have to press it to clear CMOS. Not sure if mouse micro switch would be good since it's impulsive switch.

    They are meant to be used for enthousiasts, which operate the boards outside of a case... on a testbed... then these switches are nice... it's all about gadgets...

    Leeghoofd, do you have any advice on what NB and FSB Termination voltages I should use for my current overclock at 425x8? I did finally get a stable 3.2ghz at 1.325vcore with my new memory but now since switching to the higher fsb I am kinda lost. Using auto for everything but vcore(1.400) and CPU PLL(1.6) I am prime95 small FFT stable for 1.5hours. I did try 1.39 and that failed after 57mins so I am hoping with a bit more tweaking I should be set for 3.4ghz at 1.4vcore...thanks
