    Hiya..

    Thanks...!!

    New system is:

    Phenom 9850BE @ 2.9Ghz (1.475v) - 3.0Ghz (1.5v - not stable)
    ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe
    2 x 2GB G.SKill PC2-8500 RAM @ 5-5-5-15 2T
    2 x GeCube HD4850's CF @ 700/1100
    Vista Home Premium 64-bit
    2 x 160GB Samsung Spinpoints (RAID-0)
    1 x 320GB Seagate 7200.10 (JBOD)
    Thermaltake Toughpower 750W PSU
Thermaltake PurePower Express 250W VGA PSU
Hauppage Win-TV Nova S-Plus Satellite TV Tuner
Modded Thermaltake Big Water 745 LCS ( 2 x dual 120mm radiators, 1 ltr reservoir and new pump ) still need to get a new block..!!
Thermaltake Soprano 1000BWS Case with new Side Panel 230mm fan
    Samsung 206BW 20" LCD Display
    Logitech Z10 Speakers
    Logitech MX518 Gaming Optical Mouse

And next I'm looking to get a new 790FX/SB750 mobo, then a 4870X2 to go Crossfire-X and then Deneb..... hopefully this side of Christmas.....LOL...!!!

It sure has changed a lot since my sig.... in fact most of my sig components are now in another case and used as a backup PC.... which I have connected to the main display with a USB/DVI KVM switch....!!

THe 9500 CPU had to go, sold that on ebay for a song..LOL.. and kept my old X2 6400+BE for the M2N32SLI mobo, and I've now got a 3870 for that PC, after upgrading to the 4850's, and the old 8800GTS 320MB can now go into my even older Acer T180 Desktop.... which is chugging along with its x2 3800+...LOL...

I'm going to have to work on putting a new sig together.... its kind of tricky though with the size limitations...

    Thanks again.

I'm stuck at the 3200MHz range on air, so I'm switching over to water in the next few days.
Hopefully I can get past 3200 then, otherwise I'll be like everyone else waiting for a board with a SB750

    Yes, I do

    E20694
    P8635
    H5586

Note that all my results are done with a non-optimized OS (since I don't really know which optimizations to do for 3dmark, haven't really been 3dmarking before...). And also the overclock is simply made by raising the multiplier, so for example NB is at stock speed.

Very nice score.... !!! I'm happy enough with my 4850's even though I was tempted to get 4870's the purse strings were a bit too tight...LOL.

Have you tried the 8.7 Beta Display Driver... I've found that using the 8.7 Beta DD and the 8.7 Official CCC, gives the best results, as the official 8.7 Catalyst has the latest Control Center, and the 8.7 Beta has the latest display driver.

The 8.7 Beta has display driver v8.52 whereas the offical 8.7 has display driver v8.51

But official 8.7 has the latest version of Control Center, so you have to mix'n'match to get a combinatin of the 2 to get the latest version of both DD and CCC. I did a custom install of the beta 8.7 and the official 8.7, and selected only the respective components from each...!!!

Thanks for the compare links, going to take a look now..!!!

I've not optimized my Vista either, shutdown Sidebar thats about it really, havn't bothered disabling un-needed services etc.... just wanted to get an idea.. I think beng on 64-bit is holding me back a bit on my OC, but I want to keep 64-bit for my 4GB of RAM....

What are temps like on your OC's guys..????

Especially after adding the 48xx cards....!!

I saw my mobo temp go up about 10C, I added a new 23cm fan sidepanel now and its brought it down a bit....

Before the 4850 it was at 34C, then went up to 43-44C with the 4850's, and now its down to about 37-38C... though on a warm day it gets back above 40C again....

So looking at getting 2 x YS-Tech FD1225 120mm 105CFM fans, for front and rear, to help with cooling... as I noticed that if I open the front panel of my Thermaltake Soprano case that the mobo temp drops down to 34C, I think the current front intake fan a Thermaltake Thunderblade 120mm is struggling to pull air through the venitlation slots in the front panel....

I was thinking of getting a Delta FFB1212EHE fan but at 59dB its a bit too loud...LOL.. but the 190CFM is tempting...!!!

EDIT: Just looked at the compare URL now for your Vantage P score, and I still can't figure out why my Stream Out and GPU Particles tests are scoring lower, when compared to a single card.... its the second time I've seen it now...thats why I asked for your Vantage score, most of the ORB results to compare to are basic results so havn't got the feature tests to compare, so I wanted to see if it was a common issue....!!! So thanks for posting your compare URL...

Anyone know what could be causing the stream out and GPU Particles Tests to score low on a Crossfire setup, compared to a single card..???

I wouldn't know other than my singe GPU is faster than your single GPU, so if the tests won't use both GPUs that would explain something.

Also my CPU is clocked higher.

    Hi again..

No the other time I saw it was on a single 4850 setup, with lower GPU + CPU clocks....

Which is why I wanted to see if it was just a one-off or not..!!

He's using same mobo, CPU at 2.5Ghz, single 4850, same OS Vista 64-bit, only siginificant difference is that hes got 8GB of RAM to my 4GB of RAM, but I can't see that that would matter....!!!

The compareURL for the single 4850 is: http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dmv=226675

You can see I socre higher in all other tests but am way, way lower in the GPU particles, and Steam Out tests.... and its not a small amount either, 10FPS less in the Stream Out and 20 FPS in the GPU Particles....

Heres a pic of mine (Green) compared to his (red):

EDIT: ACtually looking at it, his single 4850 scores @ 2.5Ghz for those tests are even higher than your single 4870 scores @ 3.2Ghz..... He's getting:

    Single 4850 and Phenom @ 2.5Ghz

    Stream Out = 27FPS
    GPU Particles = 52FPS

    Yours:

    Single 4870 and Phenom @ 3.2Ghz

    Stream Out = 20FPS
    GPU Particles = 35FPS

How is that.... I'd love to know, ??????

That is weird, unless he has some LOD or mipmap tweaks (I'm running everything at stock). But, looking at that score really makes me wonder as that has a score of around 1000 better than mine while on paper it should be way less (unless it is really a crossfire result and the "linked display adapters = no" is detected wrong).

Also, I have 4GB of RAM and I am running 32-bit Vista so that makes it around 3,25GB of RAM, so it can't be the amount of RAM that counts at least when comparing your score to mine.

Edit: Also he seems to be running different drivers than I am (from what I've read, the catalyst 8.7 drivers I use are not the best performing ones for Vantage).

I know....its odd isn't it... I thought simialr and tried setting mipmap quality in CCC to Performance rather than the Quality setting it was on... I gained about 3FPS on those tests, but that was all.... !!!

I think your right and that he must have Crossfire enabled, as his overall score is similar to my lowest Crossfire score which was P10014 and the FPS for the other tests seem to correspond to that score.... but even in that run, my Stram Out and GPU Patricles were again about half of what he's scoring...!!!

I'm just wondering if there's some setting I'm not applying correctly in the BIOS or something... I mean generally my overall score is higher so its no big deal really, I'm jsut wondering if theres an element that I can improve on, it could be that changing the configration of the cards in the BIOS woud increase those scores but reduce everything else giving a lower overall score....

At least thats what I'm guessing at the moment.... I think he may have 2 cards, but maybe he has them set-up in a peer-to-peer configuration in the mobo BIOS and thats why its not showing up as being linked adapters in 3dm06..... I might try and test that theory later on....!!! Its a real mystery to me otherwise...!!!!

    Anyone else have any ideas...???????

By LOD and Mipmap tweaks I mean these:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=114

    ...and these:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=118

    Not the tweaks in CCC.

Especially the mipmap tweaks are considered plain and simple cheat by me.

    I don't use either.

Hmmm just read them now..... interesting... I've never gone into things in that much depth... I agree with you in that its essentially a simple cheat...!!!

But I guess others would say a tweak is a tweak be it a CPU tweak, PCI-E Bus tweak or even a driver tweak...!!!

    I don't think I'll try it.... !!

Thanks for the links...I hadn't seen them before..

Yes I think its safe to say that running it in that fashion woud be cheating.... at least I think so anyway..!!

I'm not sure its the case for this score though, as I don't think that either ATI Tool, ATITray Tools, or RivaTuner support RV770 as of yet, unless theres some other way to manipulate the drivers thats been done.

Not even any of the current Betas support rv770 at least none that I've been able to find....

But its interesting to find out about that cheat... I read the discussion thread as well, and I don't think that it being available means its a tweak and not a cheat, if your running the benchmark in a way that reduces the specification fo the benchmark then to my mind thats a cheat...

The point of tweaks is to optimise your SYSTEM to run the benchmark as best it can not to reduce the visual quality to enhance the performance of the benchmark....

I think that it stinks...IMHO..!!!!! and anyone who uses it stinks too....!!!

But I'll not discuss it further in this thread as it has its own thread..... but wanted to reply here to thank you for sharing the info...!!!

Ben_Brown's first place is safe at the moment, at least from me.
    Even with water/ice I couldn't get out 3.2GHz range
Will have to wait for new board w/SB750
