How do you know....????
But seriously it does make you wonder if its just not some strategy to boost their sales....
They were in a lot of trouble last year.... so...
1. Launch a crippled Phenom + RD790 with SB600 knowing that some would sell because of the wait for them...
2. Launch Black Editions which will then sell further and in all likelihood those who bought initially will also buy to replace the previously bought useless chips
3. Launch AM2+ mobo's with SB700, people with SB600 replace mobo looking for better performance
4. Launch SB750, and now utilise a hidden means of releasing the handicap of previous versions, people again buy new SB750 mobos, to replace their previous models
All this time AMD are cashing in with sales of mobos, CPU's being bought and then replaced,..... how many here can say they still have their original Phenom and mobo combination....!!!
I know I've changed 2 different Phenoms and at least 1 mobo..and will be getting a new 790FX/SB750 as well.... ..!!!
Of course theres no gain to be made from them holding back the Phenom any longer, as now there's an alternative choice in the shape of the NV 780a boards being available so all of a sudden the SB750 'magic' fix suddenly appears.... though all those NV780a mobo buyers will be cursing now, as having just bought their new mobo, its the AMD SB750 that releases this hidden perfromance boost with Phenom.... and guess what it suddenly becomes available as NV chipset boards are more readily availalbe...
It could all be a strategy....we see this kind of thing in the GFX cards market all the time, with NV and ATI , NV release one card to counter a card launched by ATI and vice versa....
Could it be that AMD have been holding onto their Trump card, waiting for NV boards for Phenom to be released before then releasing the SB750 to boost their own chipset sales...??????
Who knows....bit of wild speculation....been bored so my minds been racing...: Flights of fantasy and all that...!!!! But it could be plausible to some extent..!!!
HMMmmmmm....!!!!
