TIM is "thermal interface material". The stock stuff isnt all that good. The TIM is designed to aid in heat transfer to the heat sync. Yes heat issues can also cause issues in the bios. You really need to remove the stock heat pipes and replace that tim though. I know it's A LOT of work.... it is needed. If the NB and Voltage regulators don't feel hot to the touch like the SB then you probably are not getting good heat transfer. I used This in the NB and this in the SB before i changed to water. I believe i used these on the VR's.
