I have tested the official 07/14 beta BIOS on both the DDR2 and DDR3 UT X48 boards. DLL Mode models and DS/DDS stay at whatever set to.

On LT X38 BIOS skew models can be changed and seem to work properly, the only problem is DS/DDS.

Do you know what each model does? If yes, is it like this?

    @ Praz

I've flashed UT X48 BIOS as it has fixed Vnb table and skews are working properly for me. Changes to them are saved in BIOS and I can see differences in Memtest. Sometimes, when selecting a wrong model, the board does not post. Problem is still that DS/DDS values are not saved. I hope this changes with the next BIOS.

Apart from the different boot logo I could not find any difference, performance is the same, same settings work on both versions etc.. So I'm back to LT X38 BIOS.

Setting the improper DDL Mode can definitely result in a no-boot condition. Each mode changes timing tables, skews and waveform shaping for particular memory ICs and capacitive and resistive loading of the PCB.

Not sure why you guys are having problems with DS/DDS latching the values entered. Works fine on the boards I've tested so far.

I've found a good use for these additional settings. Most of you guys will remember starting with the P35 on, it was a struggle to get Cell Shock PC2 8000 to run on these boards. Regardless of timings or voltage 1050-1080 was about max. With these settings unlocked I've got them running at 1200/5-5-5-15, 2.066 volts measured on the UT X48. Will get some screenshots posted up in the next day or so.

One of the sticks may have been faulty. OCZ ram never had a problem with the P35. I ran plenty on that board.

I can only set them after a CMOS clear running default settings. After setting RAM timings, disabling onboard devices etc. DS/DDS stay at 8/8. Directly after a CMOS clear it's 6/8. But I currently don't know what causes this.

Glad you have no issues. People would begin to think I'm making this stuff up or using a different BIOS.

I have the exact same issue. Using a lt-x38 as well. So this seems to be a problem specific to the lt-x38 (since all models of x48s seem to be able to keep ds/dds values)

Do you know which settings should i take for my 4096MB OCZ ReaperX with the LT x38? With a previeous Bios version i got 1115MHz primestable with performance level 6. My q6600 runs with 445x9. I took the 266/667 divider.

I found it. The issue occurs when changing SATA mode from IDE to AHCI. When SATA mode is set to IDE, changes to DS/DDS are saved.

    Praz, can you check?

Hey Praz do you think these new features will find themselves onto the P35 BIOS or do you think the P35's ship has sailed?

Just my own personal thoughts. I doubt these setting will be incorporated into the P35 BIOS. With the exception of the Cell Shock the P35 runs pretty much anything a person throws at it. On the X38/X48 boards this was done more out of necessity then anything else.

Praz, I am thinking of getting the UT X48 T3R board and going with DDR3 memory ... for my QX9770 ... I am hoping that you can recommend a brand of DDR3 memory that you have tried ... in addition, will the DDR3 memory be capable of running in the new Nehalem/X58 boards that DFI will be putting out?

I know that's a long shot of a question to answer, but thought I'd ask ...

The board is still a couple of BIOS releases away for all but the most extreme and patient tweakers. The memory should work but the first Nehalem boards will most likely be tri-channel and might be difficult matching up one more stick to existing, older memory.
