Hmm, in that case is it better to get a Q9450? It only has the 8x multi, but I'm not sure if FSB or CPU will be my limiting factor with 8GB.

I've asked this question before, but that was before I decided to go with 8GB.

    Thanks guys.

I asked this too and people said that this board can handle 8 gigs (4 sticks) pretty well. I have 4 sticks too but havent even gone beyond stock. Not until it cools down outside!

So the extra expected clock speed is enough to outweigh the other advantages of 45nm (SSE4, 12MB L2, less heat...)?

Also, how is the new BIOS working?

EDIT - Would the Q6700 be even better?

new bios not stable enough for me to play with
i'm runnin ut x48 602 its good enought till dfi makes a better stable bios

    nogood i'd actually consider a q6700 over a q6600
i got a feeling only the p45 chipset is actually better for 45nm quads
me i lookin forward to an e8600 or e8650

lol for me the new bios is a lot more stable and works with my oc profile for the 3/20 bios and it no longer takes about 10 reboots to get into vista.

So what user settings did you go with to make it post? Praz's post about HAVING to manually set the correct DS/DDS and DLL has me worried. I don't want to go through the upgrade process only to have to revert back if I can't get it to post.

The board will post fine at default settings. But a person cannot expect high clocks without those four settings having the proper values entered.

    Thanks Praz.

Yes it would be nice for someone "in the know" to post a guide for adjusting these settings.

Isn't much to post a guide about. DS/DDS are memory drive strengths. Use no stronger then necessary to stabilize the ram. DDL Mode models are for different types of ram. Experiment to find which model works best.

    this is from anantech

    MCH Vref 1/2/3 Value

The defaults for these three settings are 00/00/80. DFI informed us that all three settings must be moved in unison, i.e. the ratio between all three settings should be maintained if making any adjustments. Up to 500 FSB, adjustment of these three settings is not usually necessary (though the FSB threshold for required adjustment may be lower for quad-cores). Unfortunately, there is little information available to us as to exactly which part of the MCH is driven by these reference voltages.

However, through some fiddling, we have found that a value of 30/30/B0 works quite well on our board once beyond 500FSB with a 45nm dual-core CPU. Effects can be marginal at times and at others provide the MCH with enough offset to boot into the OS and allow a benchmark to run. With a hexadecimal scale ranging from 00 to FF, the permutations for adjustment are almost limitless.

We found values over 40/40/C0 did not provide us with any additional gain. Properly set, the ability of the board to run low levels of VMCH may become apparent for those who run just benchmarks. We managed to 3D benchmark our board right down at 1.4VMCH at 500FSB and 4GHz with an E8500 CPU with 4GB of memory when this setting was tuned for our board and parts combination, something we have not be able to do on any other X48 board in DDR2 form.

    ok so 30/30/b0 for 45nm
it would be nice to have a little help

The higher the number the higher the drive strength. I think I've already mentioned that it is best not to adjust the 6 MCH values. In my opinion they should not have been unlocked for the public. I have conveyed this to DFI and will continue to do so. Maybe with the next BIOS release these will once again be hidden.

Take a look over here: http://translate.google.de/translate...hl=de&ie=UTF-8
Translation is very bad but I hope it's understandable.

Problem is DS/DDS levels are not completely user selectable. When changing default values of 8 to 6 they revert back to 8 automatically. After a CMOS clear running default settings changes to DS/DDS have been saved but after adjustments that's no longer the case.
