Simple, OC the CPU, then you OC the ram
The Z7S currently only offers a 1:1 mem to FSB divider, so the only way to get your FBDimms up to speed is running the CPUs overclocked. Which you should do in any case
With a 99,9% probability a pair of E5420's will run FSB400 fine with all voltages set to minimum (you can't adjust Vcore anyways).

I remember reading somewhere only some CPUs are lap-able due to something i didn't remember. LOL
just want to make sure, don't want to throw $1000 dollars worth of CPU away.

Maybe because there is no such thing as a L3 cache on this platform?
But I agree, please do try to unlock a Vcore setting, we know it must be there cause as soon as you put in a QX it does show the Vcore

@dan: what u wanna lap your CPUs for? Are the heatspreaders that crummy? Usually lapping is reserved to get the last mhz out of a desktop PC, I don't think you need to really. But if you feel that you should, go ahead. The IHS is all copper, it would take a lot of lapping to cut through to the cores

I will try the VR on my Z7S later/tomorrow, promise.

naw i am pretty sure my water block and everything will cool nicely, but i just thought lappying will really help temps.

Ok, Velociraptor works fine on the Z7S. Is recognized by bios and Windows, HDTach shows even better performance than on my DFI X38. 6,8ms random access, 109MB/s average read as opposed to 7,0ms/106mb on the DFI.
Tested with current 0302 bios

Just tried to flash your modded bios. It gives me 'boot block in file is not valid'

It's not possible to flash with Asus EZ flash (built-in tool in bios)

I popped open the 302 bios and CPU vid looks open to me.. just cant modify it (not sure if you can see it in bios either, havent fired my board up yet). Maybe "Access/Use" needs to be changed?

hi, i doing 3d rendering just want to try how fast it can go, hmmmm i really still dont understand about how to oc it , i think i dont really need it in this moment, so far i happy with my new pc speed, it already help me alot in my 3d work.

Unfortunately, modern BIOS become corrupt when saved with AMIBCP. But, just because AMIBCP is corrupting the BIOS when saved, it turns out the 1B and 21 modules are OK. I tried moving a Item, then extracting the 1B module, and replacing it into an un-edited BIOS using MMTool 3.19 Mod. The BIOS POSTs, and the Item is now moved into the new location and works just fine.....

Might be the explanation why it won't flash the bios.
I'd like to try using pflash or something, but I really don't want to corrupt my bios. Any ideas?

I can change the VID value to "02" but i'm not sure what this does exactly.

I could use a forced flash but i'm afraid I'll just corrupt the bios.
