    USE THE WHITE RAM SLOTS

reset the bios totally, just wipe it clean,, then try and run them see what happens.

also in regards to your voltage measure points.

i have not seen anyone post much about this although this board has been out for a while so there is probably a post somewhere.
Awesome. Will give it a shot... again.

I've searched google for it but can't find the measuring point. It obviously exists since it's been measured. It would have been nice if the OP had marked the measuring points in the first post.

Not silicon, but he crushed the substrate holding the silicon. That's one dead board. Should have used DIMM slots as fulcrum.

I used the Blue DIMM slot as Fulcrum and a piece of plastic from the cpu side. The heat sink was attached to the die so strong after more than 4 hours in the freezer.

I used real force with a screw-driver and a toothbrush from blue DIMM and I saw around 1/5 of the NB green pvc/pins detaching from the board. I thought the mobo will still work, but I was wrong. I wrapped the screwdriver around paper tower and I stick it between the green PVC and lower side the chip. I twisted the screwdriver and I saw some movement. I put some force on all sides the die came off attached to the heatsink.

I cleaned and reapplied the new TIM and put everything back, but the motherboard was already dead. When I start it up, it powers all the fans, but I only get "CPU INIT" on LCD and the lights on the ballistix tracers are not moving.

Do you think ASUS will send me a replacement?

Doubtful, but it doesn't hurt to try. It's not working anyway.

Are they actually going to investigate like remove the heat sink and stuff? I bad thing is that I left 3 scratches on the green pvc.

I wouldn't blame them if they don't. They didn't send you a defective board, and it definitely didn't die a manufacturing-related death.

    Good luck though!

You guys have any recommendations for a 2x2GB set that works fine with this board? It seems the OCing capability is limited due to 4x1GB sticks.

We are, but you screwed it up. Not saying I've never been there, but I got a collection of dead parts to remind me to be cautious.

BTW, I was the one who originally meantioned freezing the board to remove the heatsink. It worked a treat for me. I noticed that my RMA board was frozen when I got it(was still winter here, board had condensation on it), and it came off with ease.

Now, today I had the chance to play with another board, and IT was much harder to remove than my first, but still it just popped right off.

Mind you both time, the board had not been run for very long, allowing the tim to set.

Mind you, in the end, my boards are SE's, not the regular boards, so that might have something to do with it...

    Unknown hardward device

I just dumped Vista SP1 and installed XP pro for the first time on my MF. I have an unknown device identified as "on Intel(R) ICH9R LPC Interface Controller - 2916". All of the add on devices are installed and working properly (unlike on Vista). I downloaded the Intel chipset install utility, the soundmax drivers, Intel matrix manager for my raid HDs, etc. I have not loaded the Asus drivers from the CD. This device has to be something on the motherboard not recognized by XP. Can someone shed any light on what this could be?

what bios are you using? no tweaks at all? mine will hit 4.7ghz but wil only bench at 4.5ghz and it's flaky then, and I have to put the voltage right to it.

I used mine for about 6 months and I freezed it twice for 3 and 4-5 hours. If I ever get a replacement, the first thing I am going to do is to put it the freezer.

I am going to place an order for ASUS P5Q Deluxe this weekend, so I will have something to play with(without trying to remove the heatsink). P5Q Deluxe has only two fan connector which I don't like.

    Newegg has XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm for $26.99 after $10.00 Mail-In
Rebate + FS. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233003. Does some know if it fits P5Q Deluxe and miximus formula?

I notice your sig that you used to have 4x1GB Crucial sticks like mine and you're now running the 2x2GB G.Skill? Do you notice any differences?
It's $84.99 on newegg and have such great reviews. I'll grab that to replace my 4x1GB sticks.

For everyday use and what not... no, I don't notice anything different.

If I were to bench my system then yes I would notice a difference as I used tighter subtimings with my crucials since they were a very nice set of D9's.

I like mine a lot and I'm going to run 2x2 until 4x2 becomes more popular and prevalent.

This device has to be something on the motherboard not recognized by XP. Can someone shed any light on what this could be?
Stick your Asus mobo disk in and it will fix itself
