I think he means relative to crunching... a lot of high fsb's on the forum for benching and oc runs, but how many of those are used to fold 24/7 at 100% tdp for months on end... maybe so, I dunno. I wouldn't abuse my stuff like that though... heck I keep mine pretty mild to conserve on power (try to keep the voltage/fsb under the power hungry curve-the point on the curve where it takes a lot of voltage to see small boosts). but that's just me..

also some users lower the multi to crank up the fsb, but that really has no use for crunching... we need core speed..

3.6GHz is fairly common even on crunchers. I was actually aiming for that at first. But yeah I see what you mean.

    Ok that came out wrong.

First off all, I was truelly surprised to read what I did and I don't think I read it well the first time. Offcourse does cooling help oc, but I was thinking you were talking about the limiting factor. Idk what board you got but any recent and decent board ( which came out after mine hehe ) should do 400fsb or it will end up in the garbage. This I975 can take my c2d past 4g though I can fold at 3.8 stable only. Now, what I'm trying to say is, I just misinterpreted your post.

I had eue's due to dust on my nb, so yes cooling does help ocing while crunching. Riptide I thought you said it as a joke and though I jump in and play along, but in the end I wasn't that sure what you ment anymore and started to question myself...

Strange things.. I need to talk to my shrink about this

    Sorry for the confusion folks

I run mine at 380x9@1.4v, if I want 3.6, I have to go up to 1.5v... that's a big bump in vcore for only 200mhz core speed...
guess all 3 of my chips are mediocre chips..
actually I pulled the 2 on scythe mugens down to 375x9@1.37v, because they were hitting over 60c with summer here.
which is not bad, because the vid's on them are 1.325, so that's only a +.05 over stock...
and my dam electric bill was $400 last time, I hurt myself on that one.

450x8 is fine if it works for you Barn... I just meant some users try to max out their fsb by lowering the multi, which really has no benefit for folding.

    Changing the direction a bit....

SMP folding is going to be VERY interesting on nehalem w/ HT. Someone at F@H needs to get off their butts and make the typical client multithreaded. 8 "cores" or even 12 is going to really push folding and if they can do it right, make folding on the cpu as fast as on the gpu (being VERY optimistic).

I'd be VERY happy to set up a computer w/ 3 video cards. I'd have at least 25k ppd if not more with a set up like that. I can always dream, lol.

They could leave it at 4, and just run multiple SMP clients. Might just be easier, can't imagine the coding required to make it that heavily multithreaded.

I think they were working on that.. with the a2 core... were still on fahcore_a1 right now..

I can't find where I read that, maybe I dreamed it... I swear it was a pande announcement somewhere..

Well my ppd are back up, but it looks like there are a lot more people joining or getting better hardware.
I slipped out of the top 20!
I'm going to have to do something about this soon.

Same here, Mike. I just got my bill for June and it was crazy - quite a bit higher than yours there. So I've taken my PS3 offline for now. 1,000 less PPD, but until after the summer I need to manage the bills.

I never thought of that. In CA our power is insanely expensive. I will have to watch the bills as they come in to see how much I can push.

This is really weird, when my monitor would go into standby after a few hours i would come back and my PC wouldn't respond. I disabled standby but the next time my PC was just frozen, using the mouse and keyboard did nothing so i'd have to reboot. I paused the GPU2 and it hasn't happened since, i'm going to go back to the Cat 8.6s and hope that fixes it Oh well i should be switching to Nvidia soon anyway.

    Since I can harass here

As a few of you know (anyone who's read my thread about my vista "difficulties"), my 8800gt died today... may it rest in peace.

I need to RMA it... so my ppd it getting cut in half, well, more since my main pc isn't running anything either due to vista and extreme micro-stuttering.

Ok, I'm glad I got that out of my system.

Oh, i have one thing to ask...

When running SMP on a quad.... what is the difference between going 50% and 100%? Its going to take twice as long?

I"m a little confused b/c I thought SMP required two cores....

SMP was designed for 4 cores, more or less. It can run on two just fine however. As for the 50% thing, do you mean in task manager?

    Yes... in task manager.

I've been having vista problems lately and I was trying to nail the problem (although I don't believe this is the cause). More or less curious really.

    I'll just stick to 100%.

    Thanks

Liltle update from me, ppd plumited I guess since a> smp client on q6600 is runnig stock, kid dropped a chain in one off the fans of my radiator and I need to disassemble the whole top piece to put a replacement in ( which as of now, is just laying ontop of the assembly above where the previous, failed/melted fan was ) and b> Gpu client not running as smoothly as before and me not being around as much to correct anything.

A will stay current for awhile, don't have the piece of mind atm to take my whole rig apart ( though, I haven't cleaned rad nor blocks in over a year... ) and as far as b goes, I'm still pretty much occupied elsewhere.

@Synthetic Killer SMP is ment for multi core, not two core or quad core. The client will detect how many cores you have and some wu's will be assigned to quads and some to duals afaik. That withstanding Pande Group has always said the fastest return times are of the highest importance, there are voices speaking out about a change to the award system which more reflects that as running two smp's on one quad produces more points ( but according to The Pande Group, less usuable sience ).

Nice barnacle what are your clocks for that ppd? And can you also measure power draw to confirm Angra's numbers ( which with 40w per core still seem low, not that I don't trust him I do but I just REALLY think they are low )

Newegg says core is at 600 and mem is at 2000, I have no idea what the shader clocks are and it's not hooked up to a monitor or keyboard now so I can't really look. I also have no idea waht the power draw is... All I know is that the heat sink runs very hot to the touch, much hotter than the 8800gt.
