My p5q deluxe should be here any time now today. What is the best bios currently?

    I can run PL 8 at 400fsb and 9 at 500fsb.
    How? Mine doesn't boot with PL9, only PL10. BIOS 0702, FSB:RAM 1:1.

I couldn't get it Superpi 32mb stable before but some have done it on 0706... downgrade prob is solved via Eva2000's suggestion to rename the bios files... back on 0604 without an issue later on , back on 0803...

Think he uses a divider maybe there so ram not in sync at 400FSB...

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Hey guys, has someone noticed it that the 400 Strap has more mem performance than the 333 Strap?

i test the Everest Mem. & Cache Benchmark with same settings, only different is 333 vs 400 Strap!

Edit: ok, at 500FSB 1:1 is the 333 Strap a little bit faster

    Hmmmmmm.

I'm about to flash 0803, so I'll test that theory in my system.

Cheers. I wasn't switching off the machine before plugging in the USB stick.

Don't you guys get better performance when using a mem multiplier vs 1:1 ?

    pmp, the Deluxe doesn't get a 0901 bios? :p

Those changes are also in the 0803 ?

What is the 'CPU temperature readout fix'? I thought my CPU temp was reporting a bit high with 706 bios as my CPU temp was higher than either of my core temps which i didnt think was right.

Just got my P5Q Deluxe along with a new q6600....a L807A stepping with a crappy 1.3125 VID...but I put it in and went straight to 3.6ghz with 1.45v, now I'm at 3.7ghz stable so far for about 20min in prime at the same voltage.

    nice mobo

    Hi,

Cob or anyone what kind of VCore voltage are you using to get to 4.000MHz on this Q6600??

I can post easily with 9 multiplier but I can’t load Vista, seems to need more that 1,5 …

Do you think this is normal or are you using lower voltages for this clock speed?

Other chipset voltages are equal to Cob’s and I have GSkill 4GB 8000 PQ. I have H2O cooling.

    Thanks & Regards

    About 1.52v in BIOS IIRC.

Are you sure that you're not following the chipset voltages for my Q9450? I don't think I posted them for my Q6600, other than saying they were on their lowest non-auto settings.

Thanks ... gonna try it when I arrive home later ....

About your question... I think you have somewhere back in the thread, PLL 1,56 NB 1,2 ,... etc..

And also thanks to all that have post here... it has helped me alot

With 1,45 VCore I'm on 35º iddle with a 28º/30º ambient. I need to get my home AC running

    Overclocking basic help

Ok this is going to sound extremely noob, but you have to realize that I know of only one person that can build a computer much less anyone that knows what a multiplier or voltage are. You guys are in the top .01% of people in terms of computer knowledge.

With that out of the way, I'm a bit lost as to the steps for overclocking properly, here's what I've deciphered.

    1) Increase the FSB and leave the multiplier alone
    2) Once the computer fails to boot you then clear the CMOS
--> question is that just done by unplugging the silver circle battery?
    3) Then you start to increase the V-core which sounds like the main voltage to the CPU
    4) You do this a bit until you get it stable while staying under 1.4v?
    5) Once you get to 1.4v you start upping the PPL (I have no idea what this is)
    6) If both of those don't work you up the voltage of your ram to like 2.0v
    7) Check to make sure your load CPU temp is under 60C?? (I'm at 35C stock with my Thermalright 120X)

    So here's my questions
    1) When do you change the multiplier? Do you always leave it or mess around to get the highest total CPU speed? The stock settings are 333Mhz FSB with a x9 multiplier. This means I'd have to drop the multiplier to make my ram go fast?
    2) How does this relate to pushing your RAM? I have 1066Mhz so that means it should take 533fsb? This is a 1:1 ratio that I want right?

    I want to get 4.0ghz (or close) so I was thinking I'd shoot for a 500FSB with x8 and a vCore ~1.4 and ram @ 2.0v

Please Please Please Please help me or at least link me to something I can read. I love researching, but I really need some guidance now!

Welcome to xtremesystems. First thing first: you need a very good cooler to clock hight. If you have a 45nm CPU dont go above 1.35 to be on the safe side and 1.45 65nm CPU. PLL is the link between the CPU and the Northbridge but I could be wrons about that one. .Above 400 on the FSB adding some voltage may give you more room to go forward. increase slowly about 20 mhz on the FSB at a time, add voltage as needed and gradually slow down. test with prime for 5 minutes and move forward. most CPU's will do ~3 on stock voltage. All the Core2 based processor I ever worked with did 3.2 on stock stable. I like stability so I leave it at that. I have a Q6600 clocked at 3.2 at 400X8. I lowered the multi to 8 because I wanted to raise my FSB for better memory performance. Keep the ratio of the memory 1:1 to be safe. When you run DDR2 800 and keep it 1:1 you can run the memory in spec until you go over the spec. add vdimm am .01 as needed. do not put more 2.2. on budget ram it will burn. remember to watch the temp and it is not worth stability to run it at break neck speeds unless you want the highest scores and nothing else. I hope this helps a little. Good luck and have fun it can get kinda of addicting.

First off I've seen many run closer to 1.4 on a 45nm esp on the P45's because they're a dye of the P35 or something right?

Here's my setup (I tried to have it as my sig)

    MOBO: P5Q DLX P45
    CPU: E8400 Wolfdale w/ Thermalright 120eX
    RAM: 4GB Corsair Dominator PC8500
    GPU: 8800GTS (G92) <-- soon to be 4870X2
    Monitor: BenQ V2400W 24" 2ms
    Sound:Xonar D2X w/ Klipsch 5.1
Storage: Western Digital Cavier 640GB (Raid 1)
    PSU: Corsair TX750
    Case: Antec 182SE w/ window
    Assy: Razer Tarantula & MX510

I lowered the multi to 8 because I wanted to raise my FSB for better memory performance. Keep the ratio of the memory 1:1 to be safe. When you run DDR2 800 and keep it 1:1 you can run the memory in spec until you go over the spec.
Ok I have 1066 so that would be 533FSB then...

Ok vdimm is voltage to the ram then right? I when would I be doing this at the same time I'm adding to the CPU or after? Wouldn't I rather fry the ram than the CPU so I'd start more aggressively with the voltage to the ram then to the CPU? My ram is great for DDR2 so I assume it can hit 2.2v.

Also what is a sound temp, I heard that 10C over stock will lower the CPU's life by 1/2. But then again with my cooler if I was around 55C that'd be about stock anyways?
