Got my board today. RAM is A-Data 800MHz 7-7-7.

Getting nowhere fast so far, but im only 3 hours in. First DDR3 setup, so im expecting a war of attrition.

Tips, tricks etc welcome, and if anyone needs something tried, give me a shout

If you can remove the WD's or move them to the marvel ports, clear the cmos and re setup up the board. Also try with tRFC at 48, made a huge difference here.

At least not for me it didn't. I just checked with my brother, the WD drives aren't even plugged in he told me; they are supposed to connect to an IDE PCI expansion card which has no data cable attached to it.

1600 looks a nogo, board limit not ram, now 1333 is fast and I do have it stable here with some help from Pry0 who has been testing a little longer than I have.

This is with 4GB 2x2, 2x1 will clock a lot higher

Any help is greatly appreciated as I don't really want to go the RAM route [eventhough I do have an RMA case open].

GAR, I think by him saying 1600 is a no go, that means anything beyond that should be a no go as well. Let's just hope they fix it soon.

ASUS is working on a BIOS update to get us to 1600 stable (2x2GB), along with 1N/2N command options. However, we have a fundamental chipset limitation with the current A2 P45 when it comes to loading the memory controller.

The P45 was only qualified by Intel to 1333 DDR3, anything over is truly overclocking in this regard (really serious about this, no wink winks about it really doing 1600+ but Intel just wants to sell more X48s). I firmly believe after conversations this week with several engineers that there is not that much headroom in this chipset when it comes to high clocks and memory loads (4GB/8GB DDR3 configs, 2GB is working up to 2000 for me).

That said, this chipset is very fast when setup properly at DDR3-1333 with 4/8GB. It appears from all indications that we can get to 1600 2N (probably CAS7 or higher though) in a stable manner with the 2GB modules. If you want to do high memory clocks (1600+) with 4GB or 8GB at tight timings, buy the X48 at this point. Otherwise, the P45 is a very good solution as it was originally designed, a mid-range chipset upgrade to the P35 that will be around a long time until the Nehalem family (processor/chipsets) is available in the mid to low market sectors.

I will have an answer on the WD problems tomorrow. It seems to be affecting the press review samples at this point, have a retail kit arriving today to test.

At least that is progress. But, my issue is this, I keep hearing that they are working on fixing the 4GB/8GB RAM issue and that 2GB is supported all the way to 2000Mhz; then how come my 1800Mhz 2x 1GB kit can't even POST? What really makes me laugh about the whole issue is that this build I'm making is not going to be OC'ed much if any and I can't even achieve stock settings on it yet.

I was just testing for stability at stock CPU speed/FSB
Will try pushing the FSB up while keeping mem on a divider shortly

I posted my settings in this post:
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...4&postcount=35

The only changes I made to run HCI for 12hrs was to set tRFC to 48 and drop the NB voltage to 1.18v
[edit] other voltages, were set to one notch above minimums since lowest values act like auto when oc'ing

How are the setups with 2x1gb doing? I personally don't care about 4gb ram, just DDR3 with better FSB than X48. Is it serving that purpose at least?

I'm not sure if this will help as none of the guys with Corsair memory posted here, but I would like to share some of the settings, and screenshots I used to run 2x2GB at DDR3-1600+ with our Samsung based 4GB kit - TW3X4G1800C8DF.

First up, all default latencies nad memory settings - Performance Level @ PL=Auto (8) and Clock Twister @ Auto. This is with 0702 BIOS:

    P5Q3 Deluxe, C2D E8500 @ 400FSB / DDR3-1600 CL7 @ 1.80v - 0702 BIOS
    This is TW3X4G1800C8DF based on Samsung ICs - 2 x 2GB DDR3-1800 8-8-8-24

... BIOS update to 0801, then a little bump in memory frequency, plus Performance Level @ PL=6 and Clock Twister @ Stronger for boost in Read and Latency scores:

I am going to be honest with you here, 2GB kits are not giving us huge issues on P45, hence I have spent more time with the 4GB kits hoping to help get some solid answers as to what these boards will actually do.

Now that does not mean I will not test with 42GB and I will try to show the tweaks needed to get the board clocking well. All I ask is for now clock down a little, tighten the timings and enjoy your PC. let me sort out this 4GB mess we are seeing then I can move on.

Do it with Micron modules, get 10 kits from retail stock at newegg or ZZF and test on 5 boards, then we will know exactly what the story is. Posting here with this is doing nothing more than gloating in the face of a competitors customer and i hope you remove your post.

Do you see me doing this to corsairs customers?

I'm posting in a good will, Tony. This is "P5Q3 Deluxe discussion thread", not "OCZ support thread", therefore I don't think there is a problem. I never come in to competitors dedicated support threads as it may be seen as intruding on my part. But this is different situation. I wanted to add the settings that seem to work, not particularly for Corsair customers, but for all end-users experiencing problems with 2x2GB @ DDR3-1600 on Asus P5Q3 Deluxe. I don't intend to remove the post, as it might be useful for others, I hope.

    Cheer up Tony!

P.S. Micron B-die based 2x2GB works as well. The settings I posted are with retail kit of Samsung based 4GB that I pulled from stock. Just ignore the post if you don't think it's useful, Tony. Take care!

It's easy to be checked. If you're not sure, your board is affected, PM for details. BTW. it affects then all HDDs

Not exactly, WD does not work or is flaky on the two press boards (which do not have the Marvell controller). Hitachi and Seagate drives are fine on the same board, just got the retail board and it works fine.

Please try the Micron 2x2GB 1600 C7 kit, because the Micron kits I have do not go above 1460 in a stable manner, does matter which manufacturer and I have several from C to Z. I will say this, the retail board is much better behaved than the press sample boards, glad we did not review it yet.

I'm working on it, Gary. I'm running at exactly the same settings with 4GB kit of 1600C7DHXIN v3.1 which is based on Micron Rev.B. So far so good at DDR3-1660; I will post a screenshot once I get back...

Does your retail board behave the same? What Rev. is it - 1.01G or 1.02G? Also, is it Micron Rev.B (D9GTR / D9GTS, etc.) or Micron Rev.D (D9JNL/D9JNM, etc.) that you're testing?

EDIT: That should do it for now... As promised, Micron Rev.B 1600C7DHXIN 4GB kit. I did not change any settings in BIOS compared to previous DDR3-1660 test with Samsung...
