I would like to point out something that I absolutely love about stability of this board, the fact that when Super PI encounters an error it does not freeze you PC, it just gives you the usual "Such and such program has encounter an error..." warning or the "NOT EXACT FOUND". On my old P5E3 Premium and my new P5Q3 Deluxe, when this happens, forget about it, it's frozen.

You maybe asking yourselves, "OK, he likes that it tells him it is unstable and doesn't freeze while at it, but then what?" Well, the what in this case is that you can open the Aegis panel and tweak the voltages in real time and have a temporary shot at it [Aegis does not modify the BIOS, just modifies the volts while it is running] getting stable so that you know what was up with it and reboot and just change that setting in the BIOS; I tweaked a lot of my voltages that way.

I just thought it was time that someone posted something really nice [at least to me] about the board and not just the usual rant. I know a lot of you have read about me b!tch!ng and moaning about this board in the past, but hey man, that CellShock RAM took all my complaining away; now I can just sit back tweak it and enjoy myself instead of slamming my fist at the keyboard, a very painful and expensive hobit of mine while I was using the OCZ RAM.

    Vagos,

Please list your system info as to what your running on the board. What bios as well and what settings you are trying to use. Also what post code does it hang on?

E8500, Corsair 1600 7-7-7-21 , evga 9800 gx2, i have the P01 (i thing it is the first bios). the problems starts when i set manual overclock without changing any other setting (i mean, i leave it 333fsb and all others default.when i put save and exit the mobo shuts down and it starts for 2 seconds and then again shuts down. After doing this for about a minute it boots default.the post screen don't write anything during this period

How would OCZ know? According to the Aegis panel I was pumping 2.4volts through my memory at one point. The BIOS claimed it was only 1.99 should I be worried I have void my lifetime warranty.

Telo which Asus board were you using was it the P5E3? And which memory are you using now? I'm going to swap my OCZ out and use it in another build (seems silly to just leave it lying around. And I have a spare case, PSU, E6600, HDD, Optical drives.)

Does anyone know if this kit http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...atinum_edition that I am using would work well with a Striker II or XFX 790i?

I agree telo the Black Ops is a lot of effort but well worth the feeling of elation when you finally get a stable OC. I have been toiling away for two days and have finally got an OC of 3.8ghz on my CPU. Unfortunately the memory is only operating at 1135mhz so I will look to replace the OCZ with another 2gb kit and hopefully push the OC a lot further, maybe a future BIOS revision will also help as the only strap that seems to be stable is 2.6 for me is.

I do like the look of the Destroyer as well, I've been looking for an excuse to get a phenom for a while. Does anyone know when these boards will surface? And more importantly around what price? It's a shame they aren't going to have the heat pipe on because I have been kicking some crazy volts into my northbridge and southbridge and the temps have kept really low with watercooling.

Cheers for all your patience guys.

The kit from your link is the one I owned. I'm using CellShocks 1866Mhz blue kit now.

I posted the following settings to assist Chris POST:

I would suggest you leave the CPU at stock settings [3.0Ghz @ 333FSB], dial in your RAM at 7-7-7-15 1.81v and leave everything else at auto. Set the RAM divider to 1:4 333 and make sure the + 0.5 multiplier is disabled. Try installing Windows again and let us know what develops.

He is using the same RAM as me, so if I were you I'd change the 15 to a 21 and the 1.81v to the stock voltage for your RAM and give it a go.

The warranty would most likely be honored anyway. Although a manufacturer can easily tell if the stick has been overvolted.

I have tried it, but the same happens. The only change that i do is to change from "overclock disabled'' to ''manual O.C.''

KT tester can tell us if the dimm is dead thru EM, the symptoms are pretty secific on IC's that hve been massively overvolted

Hey everyone, i have some really strange problems with this board and i hope you could help me.

When i try to save a bios setting and the board shutdown and then power on again it just keep restarting in an endless loop. It doesn't matter what bios setting i set and tries to safe. I cant see any post code on the display before the board again restarts.
I have tried bios P02, P04 and VG27. And i have tried: all ram sockets, two different GFX's, both bios chips and running without HDD and DVD drive.

    System:
    QX9650
    Asus GTX 280
    Cell Shock PC14400
CPU cooling: cascade and box cooler

    Really strange.....

I didn't mean to over volt the memory, and I'm not entirely sure how accurate the voltage readings are on the aegis panel as that is how I found out it had happened. Tony as you have a link to the OCZ forum do you know if the kit that I have work fine at recommended settings with the Asus Striker II or XFX 790i?

Cheers Telo I'll have a look for that kit.

Vagos I'm not entirely sure what it is you are attempting to do? Are you trying to increase the speed of your memory or tighten up the timings if you aren't looking to increase the fsb? If you aren't looking to overclock at all I would just leave the overclcoking function on disabled.

Pederrs did you update the BIOS? You didn't do it through windows did you? That can often cause problems.

I have tried: to disable the settings in the CPU config menu, change the multiplier, change memory voltages, change the boot order, load optimized settings and i have tried to save the bios without any changes. EVERYTIME the board shutdown and power up again it starts the endless restarting loop. The same happens when you update the bios and restart -> shutdown the board.

    EDIT:

Hmm i updated it from windows, maybe i should try AWD Flash. But the problem is still there when i try bios chip 2 with the default bios.

Well I managed to get the memory to run at stock settings, but it will only run into windows for a limited time and crashes on prime95 instantly. I did manage a 3DMark06 result @ 3.6GHz with 2x2GB 1600MHz RAM and my score REDUCED by 300 points - not what I was expecting. This is with G27 bios... hmmm

Foxconn have a long way to go before anyone should consider buying this board. It's good to know Foxconn are now trying to fix the issues and are releasing a steady flow of updated bios's. It's also good to know that some people are finding the bios updates are helping them. I, however, and many others (see above) are not some of the lucky few

saaya, I have never, ever, ever run more than 2x2GB of OCZ RAM as I dont even own 4x2GB RAM. I have only ever owned 2x4GB. I hope with Tony's help your next bios update will take OCZ memory into account?

Can you provide us with a list of the settings you are currenly using? That way we can figure out where the problem starts.

The p01 BIOS is seriously screwed up. Update to G27 and it will solve MANY problems.

I have tried bios P02, P04 and VG27. And i have tried: all ram sockets, two different GFX's, both bios chips and running without HDD and DVD drive.

    System:
    QX9650
    Asus GTX 280
    Cell Shock PC14400
CPU cooling: cascade and box cooler

    Really strange.....
This could be two things (and both of these happened to me):

    1) Power supply issue. I found this board to be very picky with PSU. When I first built this machine I used a 900W Tagan modular. It would often do just what you described when I tried to overclock and increase voltages. Turn on, turn off, turn on, turn off, it happened so fast there was never any post screen. I replaced the PSU with a 1000W CM SLI certified PSU and this problem stopped.

    2) Automatic overclock recovery BIOS issue. I also had this problem on the shipping BIOS. The overclock recovery was way to aggressive and would often kick the board into an endless loop because the board would NOT post on auto settings at all. I had to disable overlock recovery to get the board working with shipping BIOS. G27 has resolved this issue for me and now I can leave overclock recovery enabled.

    Hope this helps.

Have you tried the latest Aegis panel from the quantum force website?

    Thanks again guys.
since u are on water, i assume the nb is watered as well.
